This album really is a journey. The tracks really blend into each other really well, half the time you don't even realise you're already listening to another track.

'180db' is the only blemish on the album, that track is straight up garbage.

I have to agree on 180db, I was a little caught off guard. My least favorite track.

That's pretty standard over here. I pay about 25 to 30 euros for new vinyl. A CD is usually between 15 and 20.

Oh and I like 180db. But apparently I'm alone in that. Really great record anyways guys.

The middle tracks of this album are fantastic, especially the CIRCLONTS and Syro. So dense, weird and jam-packed full of ideas, but loads of melody too.

As for Richard's other releases, there are waaaay too many to rank them all, but my ever-changing top 10 would probably look like this at the moment:

1. Selected Ambient Works II
2. Drukqs
3. Rushup Edge
4. Analords
5. RDJ Album
6. Hangable Auto Bulb(s)
7. Melodies From Mars
8. Selected Ambient Works 85-92
9. Confederation Trough
10. I Care Because You Do

Incidentally, rumours abound that Melodies From Mars will see an official, upgraded release soon after Syro (the original was just a lo-fi tape that leaked), watch this space!
(Especially if you liked Logon Rock Witch and Fingerbib as those are originally MFM tracks and gives you an idea of the rest of that stuff.)

It's Aphex at his melodic and playful best

This is out now in the UK so currently downloading.

I'm kinda tired, but feel I have to listen to this. Not sure if I should save it for tomorrow or go for it now.

I made it through the whole thing!

I liked CIRCLONT14 and Aisatsana

PAPAT4 was the only actual bad song

The whole thing would be 10x better without percussion.

PAPAT4 is actually one of my favorites. :D

I just went to the record shop today,,,, $30 for a record is ridiculous.

While I like the sound quality difference for vinyl I'm just over buying music that way even if it feels more special than just a cd/download. I'm all aboard the streaming bandwagon because of the value it provides me personally.

Initially, it's like hearing a love letter to the early-mid 90's D&B scene, driven by instruments that wouldn't have sounded out of place back then. It's so much more than that, though, with impossibly intricate song structures that shift and morph relentlessly from moment to moment. Before you get too familiar with one part of a song, he tosses it and takes you somewhere else, somewhere else that you want to be. It isn't erratic or haphazard, everything flows perfectly and makes logical sense. The craftsmanship is impeccable; with every minute that goes by, you can feel the months of obsessive knob twiddling he must've spent to accomplish it. This is seriously some top-notch shit, right here.

I dunno PAPAT4 just sounds like a coldplay song with all the good parts taken away

You are like the scullibundo of music threads.

lol who is that

XMAS is a nice one too. I can picture this all growing on me a little but on the whole it's a bit too clinical. Which would be fine but it's also too immediate, which is a bad combination imo.

Love this album. My favorites are XMAS_EVET10, Syro (Piezo Mix), Earth Portal, and the last one. Only track I haven't really got into is CIRCLONT14.

Haha, calling servbot the scullibundo (or saty if you will) of music threads is kind of accurate. But indeed, the stuff he likes is usually also what I can dig.

I'm looking forward to you doing the AOTY thread again servbot :P

Eh, I don't know, Aisatsana works as an outro. After all the acidic frenzy, having a relaxing piano piece like that is potent as the last track.

I just listened to the first track about 10 times. So good to have Aphex back that I don't want to move on to the rest of the album. Love me some Aphex.
