I do not understand the Drukqs hate in this thread but thank god for this new album. Exactly what electronic music needed. My ears couldn't be happier.

Me either. It is easily one of the most unique albums I've ever heard and is one of my favorite albums of all time... His best overall work imo.

Track 3: "produk 29 [101]"..... haven't heard bass extension like that in ages. My Outlaw Audio LFM-1 EX is rattling the house to pieces.

Yep, there's a lot going on low. Not going to play this in my car as it won't do it justice.

Good headphones or a good system really needed.

Edit: Really enjoyed my first full playthrough. It progresses really nicely.

So, the sample in CIRCLONT6A (Syrobonkus Mix) and Fz pseudotimestretch+e+3
I think it's saying "KATHY ALWAYS SAID". You guys hear that?

That halfway mark in Circlont6a when shit gets real.

I imagine just floating in space looking at a black hole devouring planets.

I need more of that shit. He can jam when he wants, can't he?

Hey, if you guys want a lossless (24 bit wav, flac, or alac) copy of the Japanese bonus track (MARCHROMT30A edit 2b 96 [104.98]), you can grab the individual track from here. They sell internationally.

with the obvious exceptions of SAWII and Analord, this is the most consistent sounding album under the aphex/afx moniker

I was expecting something thematically all over the place like Drukqs or RDJ album (not a bad thing) but this is a lot more cohesive which works brilliantly. its really gotta be listened to in one sitting though

I stopped watching this guy's videos because I started to realize that he low-scored every album I was really into and I was constantly at odds with his opinions. I know music is subjective, but I realized there's no point in me putting any stock in his reviews if my tastes just don't line up with his at all. Basically it wouldn't be easy for me to discover new music I would like based on his videos.
For me Syro is easily an 8/10 minimum.
People can say what they want about Pitchfork, but I've found their "best new music" designated albums are quality more often than not.

Last night I was driving home pretty late, light traffic and stars out. PAPAT4 came on and it blew me away in that context. It may be my favorite song on the album now.

This album grew on me so damn quick. I have a middling system in my car, but this album is still so good. All the little things that are happening at once while still retaining a melody is really amazing.

I have about 4 favorites right now, but the album as a whole is damn good. Surprised no one is giving XMAS a lot of love; that song is like a suite.

There are no real "OMG XMAS!" reactions because it's an old track. I think most people are really submersing themselves into the new tracks like the circlons.

XMAS EVE is a masterpiece. Just truly incredible. Near the top of all of RDJ's work, if not all of electronic music produced so far.

On first listen, I'm left with the feeling that this is middle of the road Aphex. However, I'm ready to listen to this repeatedly over the coming weeks and see where I end up with it.

Dissapointed by the lack of mental, head fuck Aphex Acid and that it's not music from 20 years in the future. But as always it's perfectly produced, constructed and arranged, there is lots to like here, I just need to leave my predjudice behind.

Thought I'd quote myself for context.
After many more listens in different circumstances/ environments I think it's a great album, hearing new stuff on each listen and it's up there with Druqks.
