System Shock 3 Teaser Trailer

Watching the trailer I was like.. oh god this looks like a low budget Unity effort and then sure enough the splash card shows..

i bought system shock 2 on a steam sale and played for like an hour and thought it was complete and utter trash. i mean i played it ages after it came out. maybe i should give it another chance but i dont know i think its one of those old rough games that were good for the time. but a sequel is probably will be nothing like the original and people will complain its too easy or some shit

Definitely going to get this unless it pulls a Underworld Ascendant, looked otherwise fine but why exactly does Shodan look like PS2 is rendering it? Seriously, that's the best they could do?

I really hope that they'll pull through with this game, as I want to be very excited about it but I just can't. Not after what happened with Underworld: Ascendant...

But it looks better than I thought it would! So, maybe it's time for some optimism?

The gameplay is very close to the one found in modern immersive sims. Better in many ways. If you're gonna give it another shot I recommend you check the modding guide at system shock central to make the game use a modern port of the engine, widescreen resolutions, hires textures, etc.

Naw, game holds up. Mod in some better texures and resolutions though. Were you expecting something more Bioshock-y? System Shock is a slow paced survival horror game. It's like Deus Ex but you get dropped onto a monster infested oil rig where the toaster is constantly trying to demoralise you.

the original deus ex i liked. this has just old bad story telling and then its just you get on this old ship and then plop. i dont know i wasnt feelin it.

I played it through to completion for the first time recently after starting and stopping it a few times over the years. What can I tell ya? It was freaking awesome. Of course it's dated, that's inevitable, but it had some of the best level design I've ever seen in a game. The atmosphere and sound design was also top notch. The endgame was hard as fuck. In my opinion it is a deserved classic.

Will look at trailer later. It needs a haunting synth soundtrack. I hope the devs recognise this as a pillar of the series.

I ain't anti Unity, and i know this is some very early footage, but it looks very rough.
But whatever, just make it good guys, i can forgive most of the things as long as the game is a worthy SS2 sequel.

Looks... bad?

Also zero confidence in Otherside Entertainment after the utter failure that was Underworld Ascendant.

I played it first in, I don't know, maybe 2015 or 2016? I thought it was a phenomenal game, top 10 for me for sure.

Please don't go there. Stop living in the past..
If a game looks/feels rough, it's the developers fault. Not the engine. Not anymore. Why don't you go ahead and look at what Oats Studios has accomplished in Unity, as well as many successful games such as Inside, Ori, Cuphead etc.?

Anyways, not turning this into an engine discussion thread, that's all I had to say.
System Shock 3 looks cool, even though I've never played the previous ones.

Looks like SS, but also looks really bad.

Animation is stiff as hell, and everything feels, I don't know, low-budget? Low-effort?

Finger crossed anyway.

It is a bit ironic that Nightdive migrated from Unity to Unreal for the System Shock 1 remake meanwhile, OtherSide Entertainment went straight for Unity to develop System Shock 3.

Cautiously optimistic. I really want it to be good but there is a part of me that says it is too early to tell yet.

That first creature animation...oof did that look stiff. I'm going to wait for real gameplay footage before I give it the slightest ping on my radar.
