Tabata: FFXV will have better graphics on PS4 Pro

Btw, here's a comparison between Episode Duscae and now:

As much as it's a constant-yet-minor hindrance to actual gameplay, the vignette added quite a bit to the composition.

for all the naysayers arguing that the pro experience would be something limited in scope..
when a publisher like SE states quite directly that the game will run "better" on the newer iteration of the console, as a console owner you start feeling like a pc owner..
this is what i wanted to leave to the pc-side of my gaming experience, instead now i feel like this will be a trend, with games being "better" optimized on the newer iteraiton of the console, and vanilla console buyer feeling like they just *have* to get the newer version else they miss out..

bravo ms and sony, indeed this is
not
what i wanted from my console experience..

but let's not derail..
I only hope that ffxv on ps4 vanilla runs "normally" with a locked//stable framerate if anything..

I await the Pro/Vanilla comparisons eagerly.

Glad to hear there are improvements we have not seen yet on the Pro. Although honestly i had no problem with just a checkerboard rendered HDR compliant version of the PS4 game, with a more stable FPS.

The graphics as they are look really good now by default, and the bump in IQ for 1080p owners and 4K owners would just refine the presentation.

Does the hair look weird because of aliasing? I thought it was a graphical effect for some reason, which I wouldn't expect the Pro mode to change soon (could happen in a later patch).

Yeah, that has to do with the aliasing. At launch, i'm sure the game will have a higher level of IQ than base PS4, so that will solve the issue somewhat.

Words... let's see how this promise turns out in reality.

So far the graphics of this game look not very promising, technical and stylistically.

??? Have you seen the latest footage, looks really cleaned up well to me visually, even on XB1

From "it won't look any different"

To "maybe there will be a pro patch later on"

and now "it'll have better graphics on pro"

Someone for sure got to him and made sure he understood how important it was to make the pro version be a little spiffier.

To me it sounds damage control, he said there's not time make any meaningful improvements, then someone saw the shitstorm online and they backpedaled. Whether that means they will actually put any effort in the patch remains to be seen.

The effort can be spread out over different patches. I kinda think this will happen with FF XV. First a basic Pro patch and later on some more enhancements.

Please stop with the constant you are wrong, you are wrong. I was proven nothing. The actual info in that interview still is very vague. What it says is: They are still working on it, they will make use of Pro hardware, it will look even more beautiful. That can mean everything and nothing and it sounds as if they aren't sure either what it's going to be.

First of all it's good that you edited in this message the part where you claimed that all your posts had "imo", "I think", "I suppose" in all your sentences, since it was blatantly false but at least you realized that by yourself.

Second thing this is what you had to say:

Hah! :P I told you guys we are not getting more than 4k and HDR and I told you guys that what you saw in this oh so great Pro footage was just a higher resolution and nothing more when everyone saw better lighting, foliage and LOD.

The high praises of the journalists was basically the usual Pro gushing.
When people watched the TGS trailer everyone was also like: This looks so much better, this is probably PS4 Pro material! Guess what? It wasn't. People hyped for the Pro want to see these improvements and when they see pretty footage it is of course Pro material in their minds. It's what you call the Placebo Effect.

FFXV will get it's mandatory Pro mode and it will be in 4K plus HDR, but better textures, better lighting, better LOD. Dream on. They just confirmed it won't have these kinds of improvements today themselves.

So no you totally jumped the gun on things you didn't know precisely (like everybody else) also accusing journalists of being under a placebo effect or simply gushing for the Pro because they noticed improvements that Tabata has now confirmed that were there.
But hey I don't want to start an endless arguing, it has no purpose.
Just wanted to point out in general that it's better to wait to get official details on things first instead of having threads of 20 pages of knee-jerk reactions.
About the game I can only hope they can deliver the best game they can on every platform they're working on including the Pro.

That's what I was thinking. lol
Someone pulled him to the side. :)

I prefer the most recent one by alot. Also the ground textures are way better (I don't mean resolution wise but "artistically").

BTW I still hate that effect on the trees at distance where they get white-washed and foggy all flat without shadows. UNgh

Pro isnt some end all be all

Besides why buy slightly better graphics as a non 4K TV owner when you could get a Switch for presumably cheaper in March with all new games

Just an example as to why the Pro ain't that great. Now if the CPU was buffed... then I'd care

It also has improved wi-fi, better controller latency, extra ram gig which makes for faster app transition, And a significantly better Gpu than Switch. So I cant really begin to process why the Switch comparison was made.

Why buy better when you can buy worse?
I don't get it

How is the extra ram making for better app transition? It frees 512mb extra for games (of faster gddr5 memory) but its doesnt mean itll be loading apps any faster, just that games will have more available memory.

That said, pro is just 50 dollars more, you'd be a fool to get a slim instead.
If you already own a ps4, then i get it.

For the same reason someone might say "I'll just not buy the Pro and buy a new guitar instead". Switch might be a gaming console, but the end result is the same: they're saying maybe the Pro isn't worth their money right now, and they'll spend it on something else.

That's specifically what the extra slower ram is for. Or that is what Cerny said anyway.

Literally just canceled my preorder. Not hating, but decided i I will just wait for PC instead of having a comparably compromised experience of the game...

But you would have always had a worse experience on console regardless of the Pro enhancements(assuming you have a capable PC). Not sure I could wait that long if I had an option to play it now.

You're right, but now the ps4 is the 3rd worst experience, as oppose to the second. The entire PRO concept turns me of, so this further emphasized it.

For me as a ps4 customer I've been waiting for good games to come out for it. For me, the only good game on it is LoU. Waiting 3 years for Deep Down, Rime, Last Guardian. Now all these games if they come out will look better on the pro, and I could have just not bought a ps4. I consider myself burned, and now working to distance myself from the ps4 (by not buying new games) so I can sell it and get something else.

There is also the logic that now that Tabata has changed his tune about there being a Pro version of XV, it also makes it very likely that there will be a PC version.

I think there being a PC version was always going to happen, just not at release.

Interesting that except the rock they completely changed the texturing and the vegetation.
Was the rock moving guy sleeping here? XD

While the trees and shrubs are really different, I don't think anything moved much. The camera's not nearly the same spot

The dirt road on the top screenshot is actually a ways off. See the two shrubs.

That, and also mainly because of the angle of the rock vs the astral shard.

I can't imagine how frustrating it has to be to have the Pro requirement on top of everything else at the end of a frigging decade. Gotta imagine there was a kind of defeated laughter when they first heard about it.

Tabata and that group mostly were only working on this game for about 3 to 4 years at most.

The draw distance has definitely improved. It looks like they kind of use those taller shrubs to not only increase the perception of vegetation, but further mask the draw distance limitations.

It looks great either way though, it's a great solution if so.

A work distributor is also added to the GPU design, designed to improve efficiency through more intelligent distribution of work.

"Once a GPU gets to a certain size, it's important for the GPU to have a centralised brain that intelligently distributes and load-balances the geometry rendered. So it's something that's very focused on, say, geometry shading and tessellation, though there is some basic vertex work as well that it will distribute," Mark Cerny shares, before explaining how it improves on AMD's existing architecture.

"The work distributor in PS4 Pro is very advanced. Not only does it have the fairly dramatic tessellation improvements from Polaris, it also has some post-Polaris functionality that accelerates rendering in scenes with many small objects... So the improvement is that a single patch is intelligently distributed between a number of compute units, and that's trickier than it sounds because the process of sub-dividing and rendering a patch is quite complex."

Games don't need all new assets to render out at higher resolutions
Mainly any pre-rasterised user interface assets would need to be stored at higher resolutions.
