Tactical intervention: because counter-strike 2 will never happen.

Yeah, I don't like gungame either. I was trying to spectate random matches like I used to..but every server is empty now, kind of depressing. :(

THE TIMES THEY ARE A CHANGING. :(

If not 2010 then definitely by 2011 there will be a new CS. It's just that Valve is very very careful with the IP.

Doug Lombardi has called it their most valuable IP. When the company behind Half Life says that then you know just how protective of the IP they are.

No really, what happened to CS2?
Hey, it took Valve long enough to get round to TF2, they have at least...3 years before CS2 will be announced to a shocked media/fanbase.

Anyway people will be still playing 1.6 to care about this, which is a shame. CS2 will come, but when it does, nobody will be expecting it any more, which will make the shockwave even more huge.

It surprises me that with as many pc gamers as we have here that there is no gaf CS server. Or is there one that I'm not aware of?

The closest thing we'll get to Counter-Strike 2 is Hardcore Search & Destroy on COD4.

And it's fucking awesome. <3

I've never played really high level cod 4 seek and destroy, does sound play a huge factor like cs? I mean walk/run option is pretty innovative in CS because its so archaic lol. You have complete control over the sound you are emitting and can aim at all times. One thing that CoD4 actually did right is the knife play, its actually fucking useful and viable and feels 10 times more badass.

I loved the Map Design in COD4 and felt that each map was really designed around Search and Destroy over almost any other mode.

The sprint function is really nice, the gun selection is well balanced and the game can provide as much enjoyment as CS if you have a proper team.

Current Players Peak Today Game

15,643 88,126 Counter-Strike: Source
12,360 66,088 Counter-Strike
8,040 18,302 Team Fortress 2
5,407 13,660 Left 4 Dead

More people played Counter-Strike 1.6 today at its peak than Left 4 Dead and Team Fortress 2 combined. Shit always blows my mind considering the rig it takes to play CSS wouldn't be all that expensive to put together. I don't know what it would take to get those people to move on to a new game when they haven't even moved on to Source.

Lawl, really loved CoD4 and its been the closest thing to CS i guess these past few years. But CoD4 is like playing cs with no recoil and automatics penetrating like awp. Aim less please :/
You forgot almost all weapons nearly do the same damage.

Part of CS' incredible success and what seperates it from the likes of cod4 is it's incredible simplicity and balance. Maybe not in terms of weapons but in terms of jumping into a game. There are no gimmicks like xp leveling, everyone is on the same page when they start the first round, everyone is required to use pistols, and skill wins. Always.

Source took an element of skill away from the original, decreased the recoil, butchered the netcode, and ruined the way guns shoot when running, and by that i mean any old noob can run at you with a no recoil p90 and headshot you.

All i ask of the next sequel is that they create a game that is entirely skill based like the original, one without gimmicks and useless gameplay features. Trim the fat of the modern day shooter. I'm not one of these people that want them to copy and paste 1.6 with updated graphics, hell they can change how all the guns shoot, change the entire engine, and how the game smoves etc. Just as long as skills prosper.

Also they really need to work on the netcode.

I have been playing since 2001 and I'll have to say that you are completely wrong. There is this "elite" thinking in the CS community that those weapons are the only good one's and if you are good with any other weapon you are just a "lucky noob". It's always thrilling to ace the other team using just your XM1014 and P228 or Glock 18 and MAC10. People should stop having this mentality that AWP+M4 and AK are the only weapons that require skill in using. Different play styles require different weapons. Not everyone likes to sit in spawn and wait until someone rushes.

You'll be laughed out of any clan if you're planning on using any of the above mentioned weapons during a clan match.

They're bad weapons.

Are those numbers worldwide steam or usa? Cause i'm under the impression that WORLDWIDE with asia and europe combined cs 1.6>>>>CSS . Sadly i'm pretty sure the bulk of cs 1.6 players are from poorer countries and bypass steam, i read some figure whether legit or not that some 35 million chinese played cs back in like 2004 or 2005. On an anecdotal side note my cousin came back from the middle east this summer and CS is all that they play in internet cafes... breeding grounds for ttrrristtss.

Minh Le doesn't know what made his mod 'good.' Of course he wouldn't admit such a thing, so the CS community looks like the bad guy.

I play with my clan on a regular basic and yes, they all laugh until I own them with the said guns. They either call me a cheater and ragequit or ban me (and my clan) from their server. The amount of times they said they we're going to report me on steam is well over 100 now. The weapons are not bad at all, only if you play them like you would a M4 or AWP. I hate sniper wars.

I kinda agree but to his defense nobody has figured out the complete details behind that secret sauce. One could argue that its simply people rooted in tradition or a certain comfort zone that refuse to let it go. I think CS's essence has not been captured by any game yet. To sum up my thoughts in the lowest common denominator, i think its the details in the shooting dynamics that make it special, its reproducible, consistent and unforgiving. Though i am willing to give Minh Le the benefit of the doubt and will try TI. Watchuknowboutdat.

Rezuth do you play in Cevo or Cal? Have been to a big lan or international tourney? The people in this tread are right. CS has been creatively tired since 2005, same guns, same starts and more emphasis on individual skill winning tourneys.

Disappointed that Counter Strike 2 has been cancelled. It is the only IP from Valve (actually alongside Portal) that I really care about.

And to anyone claiming Cod 4 is the new counter strike you are wrong. I am no crazy CS fan but Counter Strike is a game about aiming thus creating a very hardcore experience, COD4 is a game about spraying and dieing, honestly there is no comparison. Actually, a game like Halo has more in common with CS than MW despite the visual smoke which would tell you otherwise.

I really want to try this game.

CS is my favorite mp fps ever and I like what this guy says.

Like when he explains (not on this article though) he discarded aiming down the sight because "I like to see the damage my weapon is doing";
or the idea of refreshing the formula by introducing a lot of interaction:
It's a much more interactive environment, there's so much you can do. We have a lot of little features that I find will alter the course of gameplay [...] I'm really excited to see what players will come up with.

Super interested to play this beta. I was a huuuuuuge CS player back in the day.

Art looks really bad for 2012 though. :(
