...huh. Interesting choice. I started his first movie Eagle vs. Shark the other night but ended u having to leave. For anyone interested, it and his second film Boy are both on US netflix IW.
Action (and horror) directors used to come up through mid-budget productions before getting huge ones--McTiernan, Carpenter, Hill--but now those mid-budget productions mostly don't exist. Gareth Evans and the John Wick team are exceptions, and DTV people like Florentine being outsiders.
Reminds me of this Cracked article that talked about how Hollywood is bringing in these new dudes, with no experience whatsoever with big budget films, and handing them 200+ million dollars. Hopefully this doesn't blow up in their faces.
