...huh. Interesting choice. I started his first movie Eagle vs. Shark the other night but ended u having to leave. For anyone interested, it and his second film Boy are both on US netflix IW.

Reminds me of this Cracked article that talked about how Hollywood is bringing in these new dudes, with no experience whatsoever with big budget films, and handing them 200+ million dollars. Hopefully this doesn't blow up in their faces.

Where did all the action directors go, really?

Action (and horror) directors used to come up through mid-budget productions before getting huge ones--McTiernan, Carpenter, Hill--but now those mid-budget productions mostly don't exist. Gareth Evans and the John Wick team are exceptions, and DTV people like Florentine being outsiders.

It would've been great for a black woman to direct a superhero film, but honestly I'd rather Duvernay keep with that Katrina murder mystery she has lined up next. Her sensibility fits that so much better than a superhero film, Marvel would've beat out the elements that make her filmmaking interesting.

I dunno if we're gonna see things change in any real tangible way. The next five movies they do could be home runs but we wouldn't be able to say it was because of no more creative committee. It's probably not something they would specifically point out in a postmortem or something, but who knows.

But yeah, behind the scenes I hope it is beneficial.

I like his work, but he seems like an odd choice for Thor: Ragnarök. Then again, one could say the same about James Gunn on Guardians or the Russo Brothers on Winter Soldier. Hopefully he delivers (assuming that the deal gets finalized & signed).

yeah i'm not too familiar with his movies but I knew his name from flight of the conchords. definitely gonna be watching shadows soon, and the rest eventually.
