Take-Two: "Strategy games are just not contemporary."

If he doesn't think that modern gamers want strategy games, why would they choose to revive a series for which its fanbase consists of people who like strategy games? The point of reviving old IP's is taking advantage of the preexisting fanbase, is it not? Otherwise, it would just make more sense to launch a new FPS series.

So, I wonder if this new X-Com is going to be the Ray Charles version of the game, or the Kanye West version :P

What a bunch of trolls.

just wait. take-two will choose a mid-november release date, sabotage what little marketing the game is given, slap a $60 price tag on it, and use the whole experience as evidence of the genre's lack of viability.

As much as you may hate them for other things, it's kind of silly to think that a company would spend millions of dollars for the purpose of launching a doomed game to prove a point.

Namco would seem to beg to differ.

How the fuck can you seriously make an x-com game work with a control pad?

'Re-imagining' has now overtaken 'visceral' as my most hated wanky PR-speak buzz-word of the times.

Bioshock 2 was great. Not as great as the first but definitely worth playing if you're a fan of the universe. It's unfortunate it didn't sell well (compared to their expectations) as I'm hoping for a part 3 prequel or something. Infinite will be god-tier but I don't want to see Rapture go away for good.

Because You need fast mouse control in X-com game and dozens of hotkeys, right? :>
You could play x-com with just a mouse and that can be replicate easily with pad.

Holy crap.

A forward thinking, innovative approach would be to MAKE strategy games modern. It could certainly be done, but the easier route has been selected.

Poor show.

I loved X-COM on the PS1... what was the problem?

Not to mention you're specifically thinking deep inside the box. A little innovation can go a long way.

Firaxis managed to make Civilization work on consoles. If anyone's best prepared to do it right now, it's them.

There's enough of a healthy mid-major strat game market, that the AAA folks can do what they want- I don't particularly need to care.

The irony is that one of the most modern feeling strategy titles I played last year was a remake of Carrier Command, which was released in the 80s. People are going to want some action with their strategy these days.

There's really no reason why a turn-based game can not work on a gamepad. Even something like Civ 4 (not Rev) would work fine. Hell they put Civ 2 on the PlayStation back in the day.

People prefer m+k in FPS games and the like because it offers speed and accuracy. Turn-based games require neither.

We're not talking about Starcraft here. Although...
