Tales of Hearts release in 2 editions

Now I'm not sure where the famitsu topic is for this week. Everyone is talking about Suikoden on the ds it seems. But there is some other news that I find interesting. On the newest scans from famitsu, they announced the game to be released in 2 editions at the same time. One only anime movies and the other full with cgi. I thought the game were to be released as one edition and you get to select the version you like. Now it's very hard for me to pick a favourite out.

So gaf, what do you think of the news? And which will be your version of choice?

That seems kinda like a dumb thing to do, to waste time making both cgi and anime version of cutscenes and release it in two versions...

Would prolly confuse some people too...

Maybe you're right. But both get different cases too. The back box should mention it.

Though Tales games usually have only one anime opening. Is it different this time to warrant buying both?

It's a dumb move. Does anybody really like that creepy anime CG look, other than Final Fantasy fans? The worst part is that if this somehow manages to come out in the US despite being the devil's 2D, you just KNOW Namco is going to only release the CG version.

The way I heard it (here, I think) they went with CG, realised it stunk & quickly got an animation studio (IG?) to turn out an animated version. Sounds like they're trying to recoup the cost and at least make use of all that work...

Plus "hardcore" fans will buy both. :lol

Whoa, different boxes? I'm getting both!

Actually, I'm lying. The chances of me getting either is like 30%. There are other Tales games that I would prolly get first

*Feels hurt* cgi isn't that bad. It feels like an experiment from namco to see which is selling the most. But I find it a dumb move too.

And yes, I'm a FF fan just so you know :(

I with they'd just make them unlockable, or put them on a pre-order bonus DVD or something. This is a silly way to go about it.

Wasn't that just Duckroll posting 2ch speculation?

Sounds like a good plan. If the money to produce both versions has already been spent, that's precisely what they should aim for.

While we're here with Tales of Hearts topic, I can mention other stuff about it (though someone else with better Japanese should do it better).

It seems the fighting is a little different this time. There are two gauges. One called Emotion gauge and the other is Combination gauge. Emotion gauge affects the actions (like attack and skills) you can take in battle. I'm not sure how you can fill this gauge, but the member's feelings affects the gauge as well. The Combination gauge is handy for players to help you out when they are not it battle. If the gauge is full you can perform a combo. Though you can select the members with their gauge full only and connect the combo.

Also 2 new characters are officially revealed. The blond girl named Innes Lorenz and a guy called Hisui Hearts who is the brother of the hero.

Sounds cool :D

hahahahahaha

now watch the shitty cg version get localized!
Sad thing is that this would be "good news" considering the usual situation regarding the localization of Tales games (mostly nonexistant).

Just to be on the same page, we're talking about this, right?

I wonder if that was a good idea. Double the work for one game cannot be a financially sound decision. Jikes.

in the very slight chance that scamco actually localizes ToH and they only give us the cg version i will not buy it.
you cant be serious...

I'd probably go with the anime version if I were to get this game.

It's a novel idea. Someone had to do it sooner or later. I'm just glad it's a game that's not really on my radar right now.

If the CG models didn't look so bizarre this idea would sound a bit less silly. Would still be waste of resources though.

I wonder if the walking animation of the main character will stay the same we saw in the first video.

It took you guys this long to realize the same shitty models we've been seeing for over a month sucks?
No, but it's way more retarded now that we know the game will come out in 2 editions instead of only one where you can change the style of the scenes.

Seriously, the duel disk thing looks similar and really is on the same spot of their arm, just like Fireblend said. :lol

They can be fucking stick figures for all I care as long as it's localized. Fuck you Namco!
Same. I couldn't care less about the cutscenes if it means getting to play the game in English. Besides, it's a DS game, there can't be THAT many cutscenes and the rest of the game is in beautiful 2D.

Anime version = The right choice

Is it confirmed for america? Namco, bring the anime version for the sake of one sale (mine)

It might as well be confirmed "not coming to America". Neither of the last two DS games made it over. Though those games were supposely awful and mediocre (not that it likely effected Namco's decision).

Tales of Innocence was suppose to pretty darn good. It's the one before that was horrible.

Agreed. Another upcoming game where the character sketches/2D designs have a lot more... well, character than the 3d versions is IU.
