Tales of Hearts release in 2 editions

Something tells me that they're making the CG version just so that they could release it in NA. Their NA market research department is probably worse than Square Enix's.

*Recalls Wada stating that he thought Americans would only buy games if they had English voice acting in them*

Only Blizzard makes good CG, everyone else just needs to stop with that shit.

Keep it out of my video games.

In game cutscenes or bust.

Or at least limit CG to intros. I can live with that.

I don't think the CG itself is bad. it's just that the art is shit, and since the art is shit the CG is gonna look horrendous, and it does.

Ultimately, this is only going to affect less than five minutes of the game.

It's definitely not the epic failure people are making it out to be (myself included, initially).

Seriously. Tales games don't have that much movie time. All of this is almost a non-issue to me.

No, but it's way more retarded now that we know the game will come out in 2 editions instead of only one where you can change the style of the scenes.

Didn't they say from the unveiling that it comes in 2 versions!?! How the heck do you think the DS can store that much FMVs?

Well, as far as we know, if it's just FMVs it should be minimal. But if they decide to be bat shit insane and make it such that the CG and Animation versions also determine which portraits you get for skits... then what? :)

The skits are annoying anyway, it's the same 30 or so anime clichés across every game. One character will eat a lot, one character will cook horribly, one character will have big breasts while another has small breasts and many jokes will ensue about them, the stoic emo character will make a joke and shock everybody, one character will be an idiot and have to have basic things explained to them the entire game, one character will be clumsy and trip on nothing constantly, etc. If you've ever played a Tales game before or ever watched an anime before, the skits should be skipped anyway.

Not just any character will cook horribly, though! A woman! A woman who can't cook! THAT'S IRONIC AND NOT SEXIST AT ALL!

*Feels hurt* cgi isn't that bad. It feels like an experiment from namco to see which is selling the most. But I find it a dumb move too.

And yes, I'm a FF fan just so you know :(
i think both the CG and the anime style looks bad. One version you have the girls looking creepy (CG) on the other you have the guys looking fucked up (anime). Though I am not a big Tales of person so that shows my side.

I thought the stereotype was that women were only in the kitchen and good at cooking? :/

:lol I loved the skits since they're a nice break from the game, but this post is full of truth.

It's just as duckroll said : they can be batshit insane and used it for other than FMV.

Now that we're discussing CG and Anime style, where is Jiggy? >_> or is he preparing an epic amount of text to post?

It seems Jiggy hasn't posted ever since everyone made fun of his super long post a month ago.

Nothing wrong with a woman who is good at cooking...

I thought Jiggy was a cool guy with a great taste in games, he just needed to learn the value of brevity.

Skits are one of the best parts of Tales! It's all character development, be it cliche or not.

I could possibly like them if they were voiced. As it stands, I'm just pissed I can't read them at my own speed, and have to let them sit on the screen for an unnaturally long time before I can read the next comment. Unfortunately I always feel like I have to read every comment in a game, so I sit there for these damn things and slowly read every comment, getting more and more annoyed :(

Of course, I assume NA ones actually will be voiced from now on, but I've not actually heard confirmation on that, and am probably just being too optimistic and putting too much faith in Scamco.

I suppose that's where the difference lies. I've had them voiced in my entire time of playing the Tales series :D Ves and KoR are fully voiced.. or at least KoR was confirmed to me. There was vids of Ves being voiced too, but how much of it :0 It is however, the 10th us anniversary, so they're taking it seriously this time supposedly.

Vesperia NA is completely voiced. Every single skit is voiced, kyori, according to Namco.

I just read that thread and... wow. the post was overkill but it's a shame if he stopped coming here because of that. I enjoyed his insights.

Poor Inomata, gets too much hate around here. Her style rocks. Although to be fair, most of her Tales designs and the individual character arts are shitty. It's the artbook stuff that's great looking.

Seeing people hate on Inomata designs only brings me further to believing that absolutely no one on this forum, or possibly this planet, shares my tastes :-(

I am an Inomata fanatic. I have about six of her artbooks.

The only thing worse in a Tales game than its characters, their development, the overall plot and the skits is the horrible music (save for Legendia, which has one of the best soundtracks of last generation). If it wasn't for the super awesome battle system, the Tales games would rank somewhere in depths of Idea Factory level generic trite.

Wow, harsh. And I completely agree. I still don't even know why I love Tales games as much as I do, but they're certainly a guilty pleasure :lol

I don't think people hate Inomata... A lot of people (myself included...) love his work in Destiny (Leon, Harold, Rutee, Philia... <3) and Rebirth (Hilda!!!! Hilda!!!! and still more Hilda!!!).
I think it's JUST Tales of Hearts that gets hate, from this point of view... And, well, I can't blame anyone for the hate... The two main characters, not even in their anime version, don't look as good as his other works... and the CG models don't help at all!
He'll do a better job next time, I'm sure :D

Post Scriptum: Was he the character designer in Innocence too? Innocence has a GREAT CD, IMO ^^

The battle system is pure awesome. It's my second or third favorite RPG series and it's soley based on the battle system.

Much like current-gen, sans DS and PSP, I have nothing positive to say about the CG in this game.

Unlike current-gen, even now I'm not against posting vitriol. After all, in this case I'm not stomping on the good will of others who enjoy the CG--because thankfully everyone's united in not enjoying this trash to any degree greater than "not that bad" or "I guess I kind of don't mind" or "horrible, but the anime is even worse." The Tales of Hearts CG Non-Offense Force, if you will.

With that said, no epic here. I despise it on visceral gut reaction and have no explanation. D:

Brevity? You mean posting one letter under the character limit? :D

Tales games do have a bunch of good music too... I mean, the battle themes are awesome [along with some of the non-battle music]...

And TotA was a step in the right direction if we're talking about characters and their development...

Plots may not be too hot, but the chracters IMO, often turn out pretty lovable and enjoyable. Music is often on the bland side aside from the battle themes and main themes. But no way in hell is a Tales title anywhere close to IF generic. That's just downright insulting.

He? LMAO. such a huge tales fan and you don't even know that Inomata is a woman.

Btw her art is a mixed bag imo. I liked her Destiny designs, Innoncence and Rebirth were tolerable. But when she is not inspired she puts up dreck like Destiny 2 and Hearts.

Her DQ4 illustrations are a crime against humanity, too. I prefer Fushijima, even though his stuff is completely derivative, to Inomata by far.

I disagree with this. I think half of tales appeal is the "media" aspect. The combination of animation, dialog voiced by popular VA's, and what basically amounts to in game radio dramas. The battle system is definitely a large part of it, but by no means do they approach IF territory in the other aspects of the game. Playing it "safe" by sticking to familiar archetypes and overall scenarios is different than plain old "bad". Skip a few if you are burnt out on that "young boy's comic book" type of story, cuz that's all you are ever going to get here.
