Mine is directly under the Wii, but even then the improvements the LAN adaptor makes are instantly noticeable. Online play would be so much better if everyone was wired.

North east and wireless (for now.) If my online is truly that bad I have an ethernet cable handy, just need to get the adapter. I tried just one match (to get my friend code) and it was really laggy, will need to test some more.

guys: you can better your connection if you either
a) put the Wii in your router's DMZ
-or-
b) forward ports 28910, 29900, 29901, 29920, 80, and 443 to your Wii's IP address (think that's for both TCP and UDP)

Is it safe to enable the DMZ? I'm scared of doing it.

Well most of the time, enabling the DMZ works for ONE IP address only (or for each IP that you add to it). So you should be okay.
I would be concerned too if it opened all of the ports for all of the IP's behind my router.

Sure, as you can usually only put one IP address into the DMZ, and there's no risk involved if it's just your Wii.
