Why don't white folks have a racial slur? Or are white folks above it?
There are.

cracker, honkey, white trash....

They dont bother me, though, and I dont know anyone that is. Because theres no history to them. No subjugation. No insecurities. They dont carry any weight. White people have been too privileged.

I've seen white people nearly come to blows over the term white trash. Another word I'm not overly fond of. You see more ethnic slurs on sub-groups of white people than white people as a whole. although they exist. African Americans don't tend to know their historical breakdown due to the turns of history so we all get lumped in with one derogatory term or such derivations.

True that.

But i do think that people like me, who are a mixed race (for example im half white half mexican) we seem to be more easy going on the racial slurs. Meaning we use them alot in a joking way, and we also take less offence to it because they dont apply to us as much. As more cultures mix this way i think you'll see more of this

I hate how some brown people (Indians, Arabs, Pakistanis) think they can use nigga/nigger casually. Some because they are just so insensitive, but others because they have adopted the hip hop culture and think they are close enough to get away with it. I hate it, and Im white. I have a couple very close friends who are black, but it doesnt irritate them much. Just seen as an embarrassment to those brown people.

Dawson was suspended in 1994, back when he worked at southern high school. According to documents, Dawson directed a student to place a sign on another students back that said, “I am gay.”

This guy is a riot. And yet, still employed.

From what i get watching the vid, this guy is just trying hard to keep up with todays trends, it just sucks that he's old and not cool. Maybe he's been watching too much of Chappelle?

I don't get offended by anything, and I am just a white straight middle-class male, but I really don't see how anyone could give a toss about any sort of generalisation, even if it is degoratory. I call my black and gay friends niggers and homos (respectively) when I get pissed off with them and we all think it's hilarious. It's obviously different when in less personal relationships... but anyone who says "nigger" (OR NIGGA THEY ARE DIFFERENT) is either joking or an idiot - and why the hell would anyone care what an idiot says?

Show me a white comedian talking about racial issues in a comedy setting.
I know bugger all about comedians, but Ricky Gervais (my favourite) does it a lot. Oh, and it's hilarious.

I believe the teacher's story. I mean nigga had signs.

The kid and his lying ass "nobody heard me so I didn't do it" garbage is not credible.

Can't say Nigger, Boogie, Jig, Jigaboo, Skinhead, Moolimoolinyon, Schvatzit, Junglebunny. Greaser, Greaseball, Dago, Guinea, Whop, Ginzo, Kike, Zebe, Heed, Yid, Mocky, Himie, Mick, Donkey, Turkey, Limey, Frog. Zip, Zipperhead, Squarehead, Crout, Hiney, Jerry, Hun, Slope, Slopehead, Chink, Gook. There is absolutely nothing wrong with any of those words in and of themselves. Their only words. It's the context that counts. It's the user. It's the intention behind the words that makes them good or bad. The words are completely neutral. The words are innocent. I get tired of people talking about bad words and bad language. Bullshit! It's the context that makes them good or bad. The context. That makes them good or bad. For instance, you take the word "Nigger." There is absolutely nothing wrong with the word "Nigger" in and of itself. It's the racist asshole who's using it that you ought to be concerned about. We don't mind when Richard Pryer or Eddie Murphy say it. Why? Because we know their not racist. Their Niggers! Context. Context. We don't mind their context because we know their black. Hey, I know I'm whitey, the blue-eyed devil, paddy-o, fay gray boy, honkey, mother-fucker myself. Don't bother my ass. Their only words. You can't be afraid of words that speak the truth, even if it's an unpleasant truth, like the fact that there's a bigot and a racist in every living room on every street corner in this country.

It's not an asinine distinction when black people are regularly attempting to de-villify the word by turning it into nigga.

As neither a white nor black person, I'm willing to pardon the teacher for attempting to relate to his students, whether his judgment in using the word is poor or not. He would certainly be in deep shit for doing it again after this situation.

I would love to villify everyone for calling me a chink or a gook, but it's not socially acceptable for me to complain about that. That's the issue here. I'm sure every white person posting in this thread that has been called a cracker or whitey or any other derogatory term would love to express their anger about it, but it's not acceptable for them to do so. It's a shame that this black kid is getting so much attention for things people of a majority race have to deal with on equal levels.

I'm not saying this kid doesn't have a case for his teacher being ignorant, but if he's allowed to bring this into the mainstream, everyone else should get an equal shot.

If you want to not make a fool out of yourself, just don't use any of them.

To you people pseudo-defending the guy: For a word that has such a negative connotation, why do you *want* to use it?

Nigga = Ebonic

Ebonic = HipHop

HipHop = Cool

But I understand you, in French i'm sure i wouldn't use the word 'negre' or the more familliar and hip 'negro' when talking to a black man. I guess it's easier and less shocking when it's not your language. And Rap really mainstreamed (???) the word.

See :

Why do some black people feel need to use the word nigga anyway? It's pretty lame to me. I think Bill Cosby would bitch slap that kid.

What if the teacher was black? Would the kid still wanted him fired? Would there still be this much "oh my God!!!" factor?

This really isnt a big deal. As I mentioned before our teacher used to call a student nigga all the time. This is also a converastion between the teacher and the student

Student: Sir, can i have one of those sheets you just handed out
Teacher: No
Student: Why
teacher: Because you're black.

I think it's ridiculous that black people call eachother "nigga" all the time, and it's pretty much a term of endearment, but if a white guy says it, all of a sudden it's a horrible, racist term used to demean.

That being said, all white people are aware that we aren't allowed to say the word, so why push the boundaries?

That video of the teacher was awesome. It almost reminded me of a daily show skit but this video was from an actual news program! :lol

With using the word, there has to be a common understanding between the user of the word and the person who the word is used upon.

Friends can call each other punks and bitches and it isn't anything because they have a common understanding. However, if some guy if a man doesn't know just comes up and calls him a bitch, he's going to get offended and probably try to fight... Even if the guy was joking, it still is offensive because the two people don't know each other like that.

Girls can call each other bitches and sluts if they're friends and know each other. Watch what happens when some guy walks up and says "Hey bitch, how are you doing?" Would you argue in this case, "You girls call each other bitches, so why can't I call you a bitch too?"

Here's another scenario. There's a parent that takes her child to another person's house. The child does something bad and the parent says, "Don't do that stupid." Does that give the host to say "Don't do that stupid," if he sees the child doing something he doesn't like?

It's how brothers fight each other, but if you punch one of the brothers, the other one is going to attack you. Just because the brothers fight amongst each other doesn't mean they give you the right to start a fight with one of them. The point is that there is a certain relationship that has to be established before certain terms and certain sort of behaviors can be used between certain parties.

That's all well and good. But most people are of the opinion that ANY black person can throw the word around when around ANY black person. They don't need to be friends, be related have a relationship, or have an understanding. All they have to do is be black, and it's okay. So none of your analogies really apply.

I also think that George Carlin is right on the money, with this bad word an all others. We apply meanings to things. Words are nothing.
