Team Fortress 2 - A Heavy Update: Live!

If Valve wanted it to be free, yes. The issue here is that Valve wants the PC version to be the best one and is not supporting the 360/PS3 version. The console gamers bought the same game and should be entitled to the same content.

The issue is that MS will certainly not let Valve package together 3 packs of achievements, maps, new guns, and completely new gametypes and give it away for free. The content added to TF2 since release is far beyond pretty much any other godawful DLC pack that consistently gets released on Live, and Valve dumping it out for free would basically shame everyone else (including MS themselves) on the platform.

And, by the way, Valve didn't have to do anything to the PC version besides releasing it on Steam to make it the best version of the game since day 1.

You know of servers with awps enabled? WHERE?!?!? I've never even seen an awp.

in the uk they are still liked :/ I was channel surfing a few nights ago some games championship was on, 6 v 6 and they're all just whoring the awp.

I'd have to say the people expecting 7 new maps could be disappointed in the end.

"new Payload map"

"community-made map included"

"new game mode with five new arenas"

They specifically call the new maps "maps", but say "arenas" for the new game mode. Could be something like hydro with a bunch of different arenas on one map. Hunted with random zones for the civ to be escorted through? :P

I can't wait to see what I get for heavy though.

Does the 360 DLC always need to come up in every TF2-related thread? There is one critical reason for no 360 DLC that's repeated in all of those threads, and it still hasn't changed:

Certification

That's it. Certification.

That is why the content isn't on the 360 yet, and that is why the content won't be on the 360 until the PC version's content is finalized. It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to put any of this content in the 360 version until it has been released on the PC, updated to address any unforseen problems, and tweaked to accomodate any balance issues that were simply unable to forsee until hundreds of thousands of people were playing the game.

Once all the content has been released, fixed, tweaked, and more, *ONLY THEN* does it make sense to submit for certification on the 360. Otherwise, they'd just be submitting over and over again as these minor fixes are found, which is an expensive and time-consuming process.

Now, can we get back to discussing the PC version? Awesome!

I hope the free weekend allows play on any server? Would be fun to hit up the Gaf server. Im experienced with the console versions so i know the roles of each class. :D

Yep, the entire game is 100% open for you to play it however you want, wherever you want, with absolutely no limitations.

Apparently, you don't know where I'm going with it, because that's not it. Stop trying.
I'm OK with being wrong, chief. I do want to know what you're being all cranky about though, seeing as crits don't relate to the heavy update. If you were all like "The heavy sucks, they shouldn't get any updates! I hate TF2 due to the heavy's sucking!" I would understand a bit more, but I might still want to know why the heavy sucks. As it is, I don't see the purpose of crapping up this thread with anti-crit stuff.

Is a difference of opinion really going to eat you up though? It's not like Tek is trolling the game like countless others do for various other games on this forum - he merely stated that the game is crap with crits still in place which I can agree with. The closest analogy I can come up with is that it's similar to CoD4 servers with hardcore mode (or even friendly fire on), the idiots who throw 3 frags continually to try and get their kills seemingly disappear because that element of luck is thrown out the door.

I don't think it really needs clarification as to how crits relate to a TF2 thread in general. Maybe that's just me. Furthermore, ignoring the handful of posters who got butthurt over it, the comment was pretty much an aside and the important part was praising Valve, no matter how completely factual the aside actually was. Get over it?

Oh crud, just realized I won't be able to play this until the day after it's released. It's so damn fun right when these updates come out, no one ever knows what to do first.

Oh well, <3 TF2 and <3 Valve.

Honestly if your name wasn't in red, there is no way any would agree with your "aside" comment. "Asides" that insult a game, especially those regarding an issue that is completely off topic, are generally considered "troll attempts". This is a thread about a new patch for TF2 that involves changes to the Heavy class. You came in and called the game garbage (while praising its developer) and really didn't have anything to post on the topic. This isn't a thread about "what do you think is good / bad about TF2?", it is a thread about a TF2 patch. Did you expect no one to react when you called the game garbage?

Anyway, what is your issue with criticals that makes you think they cause TF2 to be garbage. You are pretty much the first person I have ever seen to actually hate TF2 and I am rather puzzled as to why you do. Could you link me to a post that sums up your thoughts about why criticals ruin the game?

Microsoft has made it clear that content needs to be premium or sponsored. They don't want free or under priced content diminishing the value of other content on the marketplace. Meanwhile, Gabe, Robin, and Doug have all stated that Valve's position is to keep content free.

Yes, I'm sure people only agree because I'm a mod and not because they actually agree.

"This is a thread about a new patch for TF2 that involves changes to the Heavy class. You came in and called the game garbage (while praising its developer) and really didn't have anything to post on the topic."

Yet you don't seem to take any issue with other posts simply praising the developer and not saying much else.

"This isn't a thread about "what do you think is good / bad about TF2?", it is a thread about a TF2 patch."

See above. Some very convenient choice on when to be strict about when you consider posts to be relevant to the topic or not (considering it was still related to TF2 anyway).

See Armitage's post.

currently there are only 2 servers playing cp_steel, surprised this map was popular enough to get an official implementation

Has more to do with the quality of the map than with the popularity.

CTF_Well says otherwise.

Just because it sucks less doesn't mean blabla bla blablabla.

I also don't know what Valve was thinking. There was probably just no other decent CTF map they could get for free. Just ignore it, like everyone else.

I wasn't even talking about the other maps. Steel, as confusing as it may be, is outstanding in design and concept compared to other maps out there. (especially compared to Turbine)

Why the heavy needs an update:
He isn't underpowered, but he is underplayed. This has to do with him being an extremely slow class where twitch is never really a factor. While it feels like you can roll over exposed opponents it's easy for enemies with cover to finish you off easily if they're level headed. However if you do try to take advantage of players in more open spaces you set yourself up to get sniped, and a heavy is an easy target. Because of this the Heavy is very reliant on other players running distractions, healing him, or assisting him, and it's hard for players to come to terms with this.

Also: why would anyone question cp_steel being the next custom map? It's one of the only maps that feels like it should be associated with Valve's set of maps.

yeah, I don't see myself playing heavy any more with this update, but I still look forward to seeing what they get. I just hate the slowness.

I'm betting the "new" Payload map is Dustbowl. Various betas of pl_dustbowl have been on pub servers for about a month now. Not sure if that's Valve's doing, though.

Turbine is awesome! I love playing Engie and building dispensers right inside the vent - impossible to crouch-jump over, so they have to destroy it, which alerts me of an infiltration (and the weapon used to destroy the dispenser also tips off which class did it).

Fan made.

This is ridiculous. Valve announced a great update yet again and people find a way to whine about the same old thing, the same way they did X months ago. I don't like crits, I don't like this map, I don't like CTF, where's my Xbox 360 update.

TF2 is the new CS!

They said MORE open. Not less. :P
