Team Fortress 2 - A Heavy Update: Live!

Just bought CS: source this week. Zombie mod <3
<3 indeed, except when the level makes it 99.9% impossible for the zombies to reach up to the CS troopers.

Bought TF2 on a whim on the way home due to this thread. Totally impressed. So far I'm rockin the soldier and medic as I work to get better at the game, gonna try out some more classes tomorrow. Couldn't stop playing even though I needed to get to bed for early work lol. Gonna rock out on the noob servers until I get acquainted with all the classes, and then maybe float towards the GAF server

Yes, I'm sure people only agree because I'm a mod and not because they actually agree.
Other people aren't the issue. You're a mod, and your first posts in this thread were trolling TF2 for the crit issue when the thread was clearly talking about the heavy patch. That's why I said what I said. Hell, I even pointed out that you were trolling in my first post about this, and you chose to not address that.

I can appreciate the crits killing the game for you, I've been there. I've even ragequit over it before. Now I usually try to find a way around it when it pops up, pick another class, etc. I'm cool with the crit-hate, since you pointed out that Armitage already explained your opinion. You could be a bit less defensive about it - it's not an automatically understood opinion as it's not a universally held opinion. Regardless, I'm over it.

"Other people aren't the issue."

Then why bring up whether other people would agree or not?

There's nothing to address, unless saying that the game's standard options are godawful is suddenly trolling. Especially when pushing that aside to praise Valve's support in the same post. Silly.

"You could be a bit less defensive about it - it's not an automatically understood opinion as it's not a universally held opinion. Regardless, I'm over it."

Be less defensive? Are we in the same thread? You've asked me to defend my position and posts multiple times here. Ultimately, you shouldn't have been "under it" to begin with.

I kicked my TF2 "habit" a while back and I just know they're going to pull me back in with this update... Valve = the pusher man.

Awesome, Last free weekend my PC wouldnt start up any game that used HL2.EXE but now i got it fixed. This free weekend will determine if i buy the PC version or not.

Just bought CS: source this week. Zombie mod <3
lately that's all i play on CS:S and I only play CS when I'm capped because i don't get connection problems on CS like I do in TF2. Anyway exciting news about TF2, still patiently waiting for the 'meet the' pyro and spy videos... one day... one day. excellent support valve :)

I'm most excited about getting to use my Kritzkrieg on all the Heavy's.

Kritzkrieg + Heavy = :D

FREEE

I haven't played TF2 for like... three weeks. Must be ammended.

Whenever I check, the server aint populated :(
Are you talking about consoles? Because the PC version always has plenty of servers running 24/7.

Why the heavy needs an update:
Aside from ambushing, he is absolutely useless without a medic.
Fixed.
That's one of the things they hope to address with the Update:

Goal: Make the Heavy more viable when he has no Medic to pair with.

he's in no way underpowered. and useless without a medic? :lol
looks like someone needs to learn how to play as heavy

He's fine by himself with the shotgun. But once he starts shooting into a crowd, you can be sure there are 4 rockets on the way if they saw him beforehand. Heavy needs some kind of weaker, Blutsaugher-like minigun to prevent him from dying if he's getting hits with it. Either that, or allow the heavy to walk faster while shooting in exchange for a lighter and weaker minigun.

I can't wait :D

I'm just talking about the servers Gaffers play on.

Awesome gifs.

Also, the update hits while I'm out of town for a week! At least the massive wave of heavies will hopefully die down a bit by the time I get back.

Teknopathetic's dislike of crits is well documented, along with a significant portion of the (vocal) internet. I think the classic line goes something like: "TF2 is like rock-paper-scissors, where sometimes scissors beats rock." You can raise points about the crits beind tied-in to how well you're doing, or that it's something different that give unskilled players the occasional moment of glory, or that the crit actually has to connect for it to be effective, but ultimately, if skill doesn't beat out skill every time, the hardcore just aren't going to like it.

Why he brought it up in this thread? Probably just to troll you bitches.

No, he's stabbing.

Fuck yes, Heavy is my most used class after medic. I'm so curious as to what they'll add.

I like how they are updating the lesser played classes. Makes the game a little fresher with each update, to see more variety on the battlefield.

:lol the first week every game will be 75% heavies in both sides, with some spies and snipers mixed in to kill those heavies.

Looks like I'll be playing sniper a lot next week, even though I suck at it. :lol I hope they don't make the heavy much more powerful than it already is.

I'm thinking it's a safe bet the new mode is the hunted one where you escort a VIP or civilian to a target. If so, it's going to be interesting how they handle ubers. If the attackers keep an uber charged up and ready to go on a scout or soldier, I don't see much of a chance for the VIP to survive, especially if they wait until the VIP's medic dies or uses his first.

Crits can be annoying when you get hit by them...but I get over it. The game is always interesting, every match plays differently. Unlike a game like CS where almost every match is a carbon copy of the last, the crits throw a wrench into the cog of normalcy.

Besides its great to cap a final point by yourself because you rocket jumped and fired a crit downward killing 6 enemies.

Yea I realllly can't see that working unless uber gets a quirk for that mode. And wtf at people saying that Heavies need more power? I'm a noob still and I already notice that Heavy + medic = powerhouse. Sure the heavy will die, but if used well, after its spree of killings. He just isn't meant to be nimble, more of a martyr tank used to sweep the area and provide cover for teammates. And I've seen some folks manage to get out of the way and live long lifes already. He shouldn't need to not hang out with a medic, its a team game after all.

i cant stand the haters of this game... it's call shut up and play man, if you can't adapt to an aspect of the game (ie: crits and randomness) then go cry in your corner yikes... yeah its less on skill and more on randomness, but in the end you can get just as many crits or more than other players.

valve has stated over and over that crits are rewarded to players who play well. tf2 isn't cs, it is TF2 !!!!!

even back at the start of the competitive scene, i saw kick ass soldiers from clans like aG and the experiment get 4-5 crits in a row, because they were raping! i guess the only thing i can really understand why someone who hate crits is if they are kind of sucky and never get them, and then get owned by them when a pro player is getting crits more than themselves :lol

i love tf2 !! tf2 forever, keep on the updates valve!

/2 cents

Can't wait, need to get back playing it. I might try to play some Heavy to get a few achievments but I'll probably stick to Medic as usual.

You're right! The VIP bobblehead was in the meet the sniper video! They might have to disable ubers for that game mode.

Wasn't the whole point of Payload to serve as a substitute for Hunted where one player couldn't singlehandedly screw over their entire team?

You would almost have a point if those pro and semi-pro players didn't immediately (and quite loudly) petition the leagues to have crits removed during the very first season of the various leagues. You would also have a point if you couldn't still get crits while sucking. As it stands you're 0 for 2 here.

5 new maps for an unnamed new game mode

Heavy update: August 19th

I wonder if they are going to use my suggestion? I emailed gabe like 5 months ago to make a jailbreak gametype. You know you get killed you go into a prison cell and stay there until a teammate can open the door to free you, etc.. except the twist was you get a certain amount of deaths before that happens (say 5 deaths and you get locked up in the prison).

Anyway a dev emailed me back saying he was the dev that made the jailbreak mod for Unreal Tornment back in the day so gabe forwarded him the email. He basically went on to say he wants to make that gametype and was going to try to convince the rest of the team to go with it.

It would be pretty cool if they did it.

That does sound like a good idea, and I think TF2's gameplay would compliment that well. I think you would need some way of still participating while in prison though.

I once played a map with a different kind of gametype, in which one team is trying to escape and capture a point all the way at the end of the map, and the other team is trying to hold them off. After they escaped the jail, they had to cross the yard, which had 2 capture points and was harder to defend.

the downfall of jailbreak is u have fuck all to do whilst in prison.

Well, the jailed people from different teams had 1v1 gladiator-type matches, and the winner got out of jail. Wouldn't really work well with TF2 though.

They could force 2 randomly picked players to be a specific class (or random, but both will be the same) to make it even. And of course, there's the whole spectating thing.

Either way, Jailbreak is my favorite UT gametype and I'd love for that to be it.

Forcing classes is a bad call unless they want the mode to be gimmicky. My bet is that if they did do Jailbreak, there wouldn't be 1v1 fights, they'd come up with a better solution.
