Team Fortress 2 is now free to play forever

Lucky you Jube, I think I'm on some crazy plannet when it comes to drops, I hardly get a thing.

Loving getting back into this, it's so much easier to kill all this new blood.

I feel like I'm getting the hang of it a little, but wow; spies are so damn annoying.

Once you know what to look for, they are pretty easy to spot.

I am very much familiar with using a dispenser as a rear guard, but an engi will be taken down very quickly if all he does is wedge himself between the SG and the dispenser. He has nowhere to go to respond to enemies who clue in and start attacking from awkward angles. A demo lobbing stickies is a pain. I'm a pretty good shot of them but still not good enough to peg everyone they lob, if only one or two detonate you're repairing at this point and the next volley will be even harder to keep up with. Furthermore, wedging yourself in such a spot and banging your wrench is boring, an engi should also be surveying and assisting other engis when possible and keeping a sharp eye for spies, not just for his own class, but for all his teammates who are in front of him. This involves leaving the turtle position.

A well placed sentry is obviously key, but it's effectiveness has been severely diminished. And if you have a competent team, then, well yeah, EVERY class is more effective. The engi and the pyro have definitely fallen by the wayside in strength compared to every other class in the game.

Engi is not an unsalvageable class, if I had to complain about ONE class being underpowered/overnerfed it would definitely NOT be the engi, but not even the best engis are as effective as they used to be.

This is all in response to the comment that TF2 sentries are overpowered, a statement with which I strongly disagree.

I think something to keep in mind is that whenever you kill someone with your sentry gun, they're going to say 'I have to do something about that sentry gun!'

Whenever I place a sentry gun its an easy 4-6 kills before people smarten up. Eventually a spy gets me, or a demoman, or an uber medic. But I controlled the area in the mean time and got a lot of kills. Its just the rock/paper/scissors nature of the game. If you're too prominent then the other team overcompensates with too many demomen and spys, and thats when you switch to pyro and clean up.

I don't necessarily think sentry gun is OPed, but compared to other FPSes, its easily the most capable turret I have ever seen. I'm used to having to help the turret kills things,

i HATE spies.

Tell me something.. Is there something about a person that attracts spies like crazy?
Like is it because i dont have any hats or something?

I swear sometimes I cannot stay alive for 60 seconds without getting backstabbed...

I could be in the Middle of a push of like 5 guys... and BAM backstab WTF.. and then the spy gets away...

A person who doesn't turn around or stays stationary is what attracts them.

Not to be rude, but it is likely because you are an easy target. Turn around more, and make sure to spy check when you have a chance. Keep an eye out for people acting strange too.

Also, if you're a Pyro but you seem to be an easy target (i.e. not spychecking) you will get backstabbed more than usual. Why? Because fuck Pyros, that's why.

Do you show your back to the same direction a lot? Ie, running from your spawn up, do you ever look backwards?

Also, do you play a slower movement class?

Just look behind you every once in a while. It takes a while to remember to do that but after a while it becomes a habit. So unless you're busy fighting someone (in which case it becomes a lot more difficult to find a time to turn around and check, and sometimes there's not much you could've done because if you faced the spy you would've been killed by the heavy or whatever), you should be quite safe from backstabs.

I haven't played in like a year, but it's great to see the dead ringer is as OP as ever. I went 49-1 on viaduct in 3 rounds because of the new players, derp.

Noobs , noobs everywhere .

It's not even funny anymore. I was playing Gold Rush tonight with one of the worst teams I have ever experienced and we easily won all three stages on offense and kept the first stage secure on defense. I didn't even want to imagine how much the other team sucked.

Oh and I also got one of those coolers. I wonder what's in it. I was between computers during the Christmas sale, so I missed those crates. What was in them?

So, I'm getting a new laptop. Is there any chance that any new model I buy in the $600 range today won't be able to play TF2?

It's pretty much all I need to be happy.

I'm getting better at this game. Still suck but at least I kill some people every round. I'm playing with a laptop trackpad so it's a little hard to aim and shoot.

Any noob friendly servers? Or any cool defense/attack server room?

I hate spies too. And snipers. Especially the ones with arrows.

The Valve servers are pretty much as most noob friendly as you can get. Even someone playing on a trackpad should be able to have fun there. ;-)

Anyone know if sending TF2 as a gift to someone gives them a premium account? I've had an extra copy of TF2 laying around so I'd assume that it would give them a premium account but I want to make sure.

Seriously, it's like a gold mine when playing as a dead ringer spy these days. I love it!

I am really enjoying the influx of new players.

I have an awesome replay where as a medic I kill 3 heavies within 30 seconds with the standard Sirynge gun.

Seems a lot of the seasoned vets are playing spies more often because of the F2P and the easy kills. It is driving me nuts because I eventually have to play a pyro just to constantly spy check. No one seems to be playing pyros anymore, and if they do it's usually a F2P guy who doesn't know what spy checking is. Some eng sarcastically thanks me for protecting his sentry at a choke point. Annoying.

What should I do with them =/

I have lots of crates too. I guess I'll try to trade em with someone willing to pay for keys.

If I can't someone trade em with before all my inventory slots are full, I will destroy them and not a single shit will be given that day.

Doesn't sound any different than pre-F2P, most people who actually play Pyro are useless.

*yawn* at all the Dead Ringers

Cloak and dagger for life! Which is funny because I play Spy very aggressively, almost as if I was using Dead Ringer, but I just prefer C&D.

Also, if you're not using the Kunai, you're doing it wrong. Fantastic weapon.

I prefer the Enthusiast's Timepiece + Your Eternal Reward. Class and cruelty.

Like I said, I play Spy very aggressively, so the Kunai works perfectly for me. I start off with 60 HP, sure, but normally you die in one or two hits if you're a Spy anyway, so it's whatever. The benefit of boosting your HP to 180 after every backstab far outweighs the one negative. If I jump into a group of enemies pushing the payload cart, I can survive more hits from any enemies who spot me as I continuously replenish my health. Works exceptionally well if a Pyro lights me on fire; instead of running for a medkit, I just continue pressing forward, stabbing an enemy, regaining my health and extinguishing the flames, and making my getaway.

I could see how that would be pretty effective. Kind of the same idea as the persian persuader or half-zatoichi for demoman - kill one more enemy to survive instead of just escaping.

I still can't get used to using disguises though(after using YER for so long). Your Eternal Reward does the work for me so I only have to focus on replacing one of their men and stabbing my way through the next one.

The cooler crate things are filled with uber update related stuff I think. I unlocked one and got a strange mini gun. I also got a strange weapon from a normal crate though so idk.

I think so, but I would like to hear confirmation on this as well.

I can't stand YER specifically BECAUSE it chooses disguises for me. I only disguise as two classes anyway: Pyro or Demoman, because they're just as fast as the Spy. And sometimes Engie or Sniper to throw the enemy off. But never any other class really.

The demo man is slower than the spy.

Ever so slightly though. 93%. Think it's 280 to the standard 300.

If you can luck out and disguise as a huntsman Sniper, that's pretty good too. Same speed, there's an expectation he wouldn't be firing much, and an expectation he'd be near the front line.

The way I disguise depends entirely on my setup. If I'm using the dead ringer I'll pretty much always disguise as a friendly pyro. They're expected to try to get close to you and there are plenty of bad pyros, so dying in the process won't surprise anyone. Once I've triggered the cloak I'll change disguise based on whatever average speed class the other team seems to have the most of or as an enemy spy if I see that they have one. If I kill someone that's alone I'll generally redisguise as that class. If I'm deep in the enemy base, far from the front line, I'll generally disguise as an engineer or sniper since they're generally expected to be setting up near the point or hanging back to snipe.

When I'm using the reward obviously I can only disguise as the person I kill, but getting a slow disguise like heavy or soldier isn't that dig a deal in my eyes. If you're near the enemy then you can get tons of chain stabs anyway. If you're isolated you can just drop the disguise with a quick knife swing.

Watching a pyro not shoot flames every other second should be a tip off that it's a disguised spy.

Sadly... sigh.

I hate you spies. I really do. :)

Know what else is as fast as the Spy? The Spy.
