can anyone make a gif of the red spy (as a scout) flicking the butterfly knife around before he reveals himself to the blus?

or up ahead as medic)

Ooh, more spy tips needed. I was just pondering yesterday -- how do you play a good disguised medic? If you carry the bonesaw, you're not carrying the ubersaw -- obviously a spy. If you're carrying the needlegun, it's not the upgrade needlegun -- obviously a spy. If you're carrying the healing gun, you're not actively healing a player, so you're either a terrible medic or a spy. :/

Red Spy is such an awesome Spy. He has the brains to fuck up and hurt himself while trying to retract the knife's blade as a Scout, just to subconsciously wipe out any doubt you might have.

Haha.

I think they went with "chou-fleur" because it's an obviously french-sounding word.
Who cares if it's actually used by french people or not, we all understood what it was supposed to mean with the pictures and all.

Its a conscious joke. Mon petit chou chou is an actual term of endearment in French. "My little cabbage".

In general Medic is a bad class to disguise as, everybody will be looking for you to heal them; and for the reasons you stated. The only time i do medic is when approaching a front line or the cart (from opposing teams base) that way they think im headed up to heal the heavy or whatever.

Works well when their whole team is pointed forward pushing the cart.

Really? Didn't know that. I could've sworn learning in French class that it was a cute name to use for your gf/bf/spouse.

It's just that it's a very rare way of calling your lover (I would never think of using it myself, and nobody I know would, but then I'm not really fond of that kind of nicknames anyway). It sounds really cheesy and old-fashioned. I mean, a chou-fleur is a cauliflower... Valve might have meant to say "chou à la crème", methinks. That said, in the context of a romantic stereotypical French spy such as this one, it feels appropriate somehow.

Also, there's a seemingly common mistake for English speakers: the spy says "ma petit chou-fleur" when he should say "mon petit chou-fleur". "Mon/ma" agree with the following name —"chou-fleur" is a masculin name—, not with the person you're referring to.

This is a choux-fleur:

It's not tasty and look like a brain. I would never - ever - call anyone I care like that...

Of course " choux " means (is common language, not in dictionary) cuty, we use it all the time and we even make combos with it " choupinent " or " aaaaw, choupi " speaking about a baby.

Choux à la crème is cream puff:

That delicious, sweety little desert you are never tired of. It fits way better - to me - for a girlfriend nick, even if it sounds a bit cheesy or over the top now.

There's a huge gramma mistake in his quote:
" Ma petite choux-fleur "

he should say " Mon petit choux-fleur " but I guess it was just to sound french and sofisticated

Although, after all these canadian and going to europe things on the Spy update page, I believe there might be a confusion. If the spy in French Canadian, that's might change the meaning of words. These people speaks really weirdly in Quebec :lol

As another native French speaker, I strongly disagree, mon cher. ;)
"chou-fleur" is perfectly acceptable as a pet name (as a variant of "mon chou" of course, but "mon chou" is also too common, just like "darling").

It's not worse than other names already used after "mon petit", like "lapin, canard, caillou" when you think about it. Actually I think it's more about the way it sounds than the real meaning. "Mon petit kiwi" is cute (and also not "official"), while a real kiwi is green, bitter and hairy. :D

Also, chou chou is also used to refer to as teacher's pet. We use to always call the teacher's pet le chou chou de la maitresse.

I don't know if anybody has mentioned this yet, but at the 0:25 mark, the blue scout touches the briefcase. Wouldn't that have automatically unmasked the spy? I haven't played TF2 in about half a year though, so maybe they changed that.

The Meet The videos have never been representative of actual play.

In meet the sniper he headshotted a heavy and the bullet traveled on to break the demo's bottle, which lodged into his eye. Both of which are impossible in game. It's funny how people try to dissect every second of these videos for stuff that is never really there.

Some dude on the steam forums went so far as to say the scout's mom was holding a purse and ZOMG it's the pyro! when all you can see is the silhouette of a purse :lol

I actually kind of like how this video did demonstrate the spy's in-game tasks. He saps a turrent, he backstabs a sniper, he copies a medic.

What's with the debate over "'chou' is cool but 'chou-fleur' sucks".

And "chou à la crème" is supposed to be better ?? Tell me "chou à la crème" isn't the cheesiest, most ridiculous and laughable way to call someone. If you dare stating that I'll just agree with myself that you've built your own time-travel machine and are posting on GAF from the 30 glorieuses.

Terms of endearment obviously strictly depend from the people using it. It's not semantics, it's not language, it's people. It makes no sense whatsoever to argue over such a subject.

And it's off topic to boot D:

Some dude said it here, too. :D I'm not convinced it's true, but Valve loves sticking easter eggs and clues into these videos, so it's not 100% out of the realm of possibility. The Spy and Pyro being "old flames" would be just one more funny touch, and makes that blog post they edited have a secondary meaning.

Again, "could be" doesn't equate to "IT IS ZOMG CONFIRMED!!".

Don't disguise as medic, it's a dead give-away cause you'll be missing the ubercharge meter.

Only time I use medic for the spy is when I need to mix things up, they get use to seeing you as sniper and engineer so you sometimes get a free kill or sentry run as a medic or soldier, etc.

wow I never realised that.

Also, that video was awesome.

This should be in the facts that blow your mind thread.
I just realized it myself.

I tend to disguise as a Demoman, people don't typically expect that for some reason, but it makes sense for them to hang out behind the enemy lines.

I also kept thinking that the spy in the video...a scout is literally the worst disguise, since the spyscout doesn't get a speed boost you can pick them out easily. :P

Have people not played TF2 lately? There was an update that gave a randomized uber meter to disguised spies.

I played yesterday and no there isn't. Maybe on a custom server.

I was so sure there was an update that said that... Maybe I remembered the percentage uber update and coupled that to spy somehow... I just went through all updates and you're right. Apologies!

Don't disguise as a Scout either because you can't move fast enough. Disguising as a Heavy also sucks because it slows you down and just makes it harder to catch up to somebody you want to back stab. I usually go with common classes like Pyro or Solider if I'm playing on defense because you wouldn't be surprised to see them on the front lines, while going with Snipers or Engie's when assaulting a base because they are more likely to be found back defending the base.

I only ever go as the 300 speeds (Pyro, Engie, Sniper, Spy). Mobility's too key to playing Spy for me to sacrifice speed. Plus you can get away with any of those depending on your target.

Personally my favourite disguise for being in the thick of things is demo. People expect pyros to be shooting flames all the damn time so they get suspicious. And heavy can be funny for stealing ubers. And I pretty much never disguise as spy. People always shoot the spy. Always.

You forgot demo, which is actually the best class to disguise as.

For me I almost always choose either pyro or demo. Its easy to appear out of place as a sniper or engy depending on your location, and nothing presents a bigger red flag than a friendly spy without a disguise. This leaves pyro and demo, and I choose demo because I dont want to show up with the same name as my biggest threat (an enemy pyro)

edit: Just rewatched the video. The damn scout touches the intel and keeps disguise -_-

Yay, someone else who does it. Demos are great because they can be anywhere without seeming suspicious, and you can hang around planted stickies pretending they're yours and you're just waiting for someone to run over them.

And I don't think I've ever turned into an enemy spy. It's a dead giveaway to atleast spycheck on a spy without a mask on their face.

Demo's minutely slower- 280 units/sec. Medic's only minutely faster (320) but once I became aware of the numbers I can't help but notice the difference. (FYI: Soldier's 240, Heavy's 230, Scout's 400.)

Plus, anecdotally, people seem to spycheck me less disguised as a Pyro. Guess they figure I'll do it. Then again I'm not a good Spy so I shouldn't be one to talk :lol

I don't understand, do you guys ALWAYS have a disguise? I never wear a disguise until I'm cloaked. Why do you want to give your disguise away while in transit?

In spawn I choose my guise, then take it off. Run up to the front of my teams lines, then cloak, then right before I'm ready to uncloak I'll hit the disguise button. That way if I get tapped my disguise is safe for my next run.

I never understood why you would run around with a disguise while on your team's side.

I disguise as a teammate in case I am spotted on my way to cloaking. Not letting the enemy know what you are disguised as is good, not letting them know that your team even has a spy is better.

Since I usually backstab Engineers I tend to cloak as them. When you've got a gaggle of them holding up a point it adds to the confusion.

I only have about 2 and a half hours playtime with the Spy, my lowest time. I like playing him but I find it kinda hard to play well. But whatever, Scout was one of my lowest too before his update, and now I play fairly well with that guy. Can't wait for the updates.

I completely forgot you can disguise as your team when I posted that, I rarely ever do. I'mma have to start using that tactic.

4chan's top scientists have deduced that 2fort might be getting a substantial redesign.

or of course they could just be cutting and pasting geometry to follow storyboard composition.

About time. I have no idea why anybody likes playing on that map.

The scene with the medic was actually kind of chilling.
This was just so well done. So much better than the others.

I heard "spy pyro" and "spy demo" so many times that I'm more likely to spy check a pyro or demo over anybody else.
