Did you miss the launch and the years after it?
It was bludgeoned to near death the first few years, what happened to it is why some of us are expecting the XB1 to end up crashing. Initially at least, but with those Microsoft rumblings I'd be surprised that, if it did crash, that it'd then continue to survive long enough to turn things around for itself.
I still think we need a year or two more. The PS2 had a much longer tail than the GC and Xbox had, and if things repeat themselves here that along will make the PS3 the long term victor, although it's a dubious honor when it spent most of the generation notably behind and only really caught up in any sense about half way through.

It's really impressive how Sony turned things upside down when it comes to the PS3 and how they managed to make a successful machine out of it after the awful launch and the 2 years that followed it. Their arrogance was unbelievable but they changed for the best and the Sony we know today is almost nothing like the Sony we had back in 2006.

IIf I had to pck something for click bait I'd go with rate of units sold and by that logic the PS3 technically won worldwide. Regionally, sure things look different, but its console sell rate is higher than the 360.

Lol I didn't consider Sony the underdog with sony's gaming heritage and past domination with the PS2 and PS1. Microsoft was the real underdog story, but its a marvel that sony caught up and turned the tables after those dreadful early years.
Incredible huh? that's a really strong word to describe even Ninty's 1st party games who are definitely the most consistent quality-wise of the three.
Just curious but what Sony 1st party games post-2009 would you describe as incredible?

Overall PS3 was the winner I'd say, it had the multi-platform games Wii lacked and first party exclusives that were amongst the best games in their respective genres this generation. I'm a PC exclusive gamer and I prefer Nintendo's first party over Sony's but if you wanted a console in the 7th gen and could only buy one, PS3 was clearly the way to go.
Units sold and Total Revenue really only matter to the companies making the consoles. "Best" games really comes down to what the individual gamer liked best.
These "wars" are really getting ridiculous with how offended some of these fans get if an article or post has anything negative or derogatory about their favorite company or hardware.

No, and of course one can argue with that.
That doesn't make them the underdog, that just means they fucked up. The PS3 wasn't the underdog; Playstation was the leading console brand after the huge success of the PS2. Microsoft was still the new kid on the block after the less than stellar success of the OG Xbox. Playstation was the force to beat, Microsoft and Nintendo were the underdogs. That Sony messed it up with the PS3 launch doesn't change that.
How would you like to go about it? Console sales? Software sales? Industry impact?
JRPGs will miss the memo for 2-4 years if the PS2 -> PS3 was any indication.
Honestly this is probably about as close to a three way tie as we'll ever see. Wii won via mass market blitz, 360 won via the core gamer initially and growing mass market acceptance later on, and PS3 won through attrition and gradually increasing quality and equalized pricing relative to 360. PS3 could well be the ultimate winner in the long run in raw numbers or at least second to Wii, but at that point it'd probably be coasting on as the cheap game machine/blu-ray player, and streaming without paying additional fees beyond what's already necessary for streaming on any other device.
What? Sony's first parties are unparalleled.

Well post 2009 there is TLoU which is rated 95 on metacritic which is higher than any x360 exclusive in the lifetime of the console...
in 2009 there is uncharted 2 which is rated even higher at 96...
Of course, that doesn't stop them from trying in the Wii thread.
Also, the PS3 wasn't an underdog, it only became one after they completely butchered the pre-launch and first year.
