Tecmo president Yoshimi Yasuda touches briefly upon next generation gaming in a short one page interview featured in the latest issue of Famitsu PS2. While he reveals surprisingly little about his company's plans, he does offer one tantalizing bit with regards to software for the PlayStation 3. After explaining that timing is important when announcing next generation games, he adds, with a laugh, "We will announce titles... shortly."

Yasuda has previously been critical of Sony for its lack of information regarding the PS3. In this interview, he takes a neutral approach to all three next generation systems, citing the Xbox 360 for its internet support, Revolution for its unique interface and PS3 for its visual power.

[sonybot] Another dev acknowledging PS3 is noticeably more powerful. [/sonyboy]

Fatal Frame + Rygar FTW

Probably,I hope they're going to be showed next month at the Playstation Festival.
Now if Sony gladly confirmed the event and its date..........

It's nothing new, in general when Japanese devs have talked about multiplatform development they've given that reason for why they're supporting the PS3.

Indeed, look at the turn around Tecmo's president has made since the days when he didn't feel the heat of the Playstation 3 :D :D

I still remember that. He came out complaining that Sony wasn't giving them any info on the PS3 and a few days later it was announced that Sony had been sending out kits to the developers they considered important.

That just means the console has nothing else worth highlighting.

According to this logic Xbox360 has nothing else but Live worth mentioning and Revolution only its controller.

Hey jerks, we better stop talking about Tecmo games or else Tecmo USA will threaten to sue us.

haha, hopefully we could get some screens of whatever their working on next early again this E3..

I was thinking the same thing. I get what you're saying.

Not saying the PS3 isn't more powerfull but just because they chose to say this is why we picked this platform, and listed different reasons for each, doesn't mean they said the PS3 is more powerfull than 360. I'm sure it is, at least in some areas but to take that statement and spin it like some people are is pretty ridiculous. He's just listing the good things about each platform.

Anyway, regardless of platform, where Ninja Gaiden goes, I go. PS3, 360 even Revo.

You can't even talk about Tecmo games at the Tecmo boards anymore. Popped over there last night to check the shitstorm on the forum and discovered the forums are no more. Remember those good old days Jay? :P

Do people just have limited imaginations or is there really so little to hope for from Tecmo?

Itagaki is in charge of Tecmo games, as well as Team Ninja. He would probably wield a great deal of influence of where games go. At most, Team Ninja games would be multi, at least, look forward to Fatal Frame, Gallop Racer and Rygar.

I doubt Tecmo would be stupid enough to ignore a 100M+ userbase two generations in a row

Expect Ninja Gaiden 2 and DOA4/5 to make an appearance on PS3

Those were the days. I'll probably stop by and see Brian if he still works there, nice guy.

For those not aware, and the newbs, Tecmo USA threatened to sue us over leaked DOA 4 images when we were still sorta aligned with Gaming-Age. A few reporters starting spazzing out and we had to kill the images.

Of course if everyone was jizzing over the images, they probably wouldn't have cared.

:lol :lol :lol

DOA2 on PS2 didn't sell nowhere near what DOA3 did.

Itagaki holds grudges as well.

does itagaki own a piece of the company?

He is in charge of all of Tecmo's games, as well as his own outfit, Team Ninja. He got the promotion based on the sales of his games on Xbox.

Top three selling franchises for Tecmo was DOA3, Ninja Gaiden, and DOA: Volleyball

But is he a major share holder?

That cause there were no fighters out for XBox at launch. Hell, how many fighters were there AFTER launch. PS2 had Tekken Tag. If DOA 3 came out with some actual competition, the numbers would substantially lower.

Makes me wonder if SEGA should've done VF4 on Xbox instead? They might've inherited those million users (or more) instead of scrapping it out with Tekken on PS2...

If Fatal Frame remains the way it is like FF3, I am not sure if I will still continue to support the series.

I was not aware of that. F**kers ! I am still mad with what they did to ninjahacker.

Well, my money's on probably a new Horror/Adventure game, in the same vein as Fatal Frame but a new IP. I really think Rygar 2's been pushed to PS3 now too, maybe taking some lessons from Ninja Gaiden and God of War.

We'll probably also get Monster Rancher 6 and Gallop Racer 9. I wouldn't mind seeing a big budget Tokobot sequel either.

One of those are Fatal Frame. Tecmo said they'd already begin preperations for Fatal Frame on next-gen consoles.Tecmo needs to do something new for FF4. FF3 was just more of the same as before

Agreed, many people are already bored of the series.
Hopefully with the next generation hardware they can change the formula.

What didn't you like about FF3? I haven't played 2 or 3 yet, only FF1 but FF3 looked so good from the early trailers and scans.

Who's to say it would have done any better. At that time, PS2 had the larger fanbase, and Sega fans have always felt that VF is the superior franchise. Not when I went to the arcade, but that's neither here nor there. I think it was silly not to put VF on both machines.

Anyway, Sony's too smart to make Itagaki eat crow, and they even sent Andrew House back in 2002 to the Tecmo booth to accept some janky shield as an award. But now when I ever hear Itagaki's words, the tones will now be replaced with "CAW CAW CAW!"

About Unison, great game, too bad most people never got into it.

Problem is I don't think the new DOA game on the XBox 360 is going to sell as well as DOA3 on the XBox either, due to the lower support from the Japanese and the extreme shortages here in North America.

That may also force Tecmo's hand a bit.

Does anyone know what happened to Tecmo's PS2 game Breaker, it was at E3 2004 and playable at TGS2004, it was an online action game

Well if you read Itagaki's interviews youll see that he doesnt exactly sound like a multiplatform developer. I mean he literally said "The xbox 360 is better then the PS3" those were his exact words. Youll never hear EPIC or EA saying that.

Team Ninja is staying put.
If anyone is going to come out and announce Team Ninja games for the PS3 its going to be Itagaki, not some Tecmo PR guy.

The president of Tecmo is a PR guy now? :lol

If DOA4 doesn't sell as well as DOA3 did on XBox, I think that will put a lot of pressure on Tecmo to consider a shift.

The only thing that will limit the sale of DOA4 is, possibly, the supply shortages.

I don't see how it can't sell better, relatively, than the previous installments on Xbox simply for the fact it is the ONLY GAME released since launch, and theres... one or two games scheduled to come out over the next month.

People will buy it simply because there is nothing else to buy.
