Seriously, get Jaffe on this show. A Luke and Jaffe battle royale, that's what we need

You're ****in kidding. The amount of swearing would be at astronomical levels -- they would have to create a rating system for podcasts just cus of it.

See, "crazy" doesn't sound like "fun" to me. These are the types of things that conceptually turn me off of a game entirely. Sort of like I wrote off SOTC when I learned it was just a string of boss fights, or Killer 7 when I learned you had to be on acid in order to enjoy it. These Resistance weapons sound overly "gadgety," and I don't particularly care for that.

I don't worry about weapons being a differentiator. I value differences in settings, plots, etc., and it seems like Resistance has enough of that to make it stand out from other shooters already. Why they have to throw dumb weapons on top of it, I don't know. I recognize it appeals to some people, but I don't understand why. Then again, I don't like most things most people like, so whatever.

It's all the differences, including these weapons that makes it stand out, and feel fresh to the FPS segment... I believe they build into the story plot, and on their website, sections that say special weapons are being developed, and VTOL aircraft...

The story's great, and the weaponry goes perfectly fine with it... Yeah, they take it a lil further than Wolfenstein 3D (where you run around with a gattling gun) weapons in that timeframe, but so what... It's an alternate history... that's the fun in it...

You just learned about the rocket launcher today? haha, look more into it... Like, say a gun that shoots incredibly fast, and just for fun, you can throw a clip of bullets from it that turns into and auto-targeting turret... :D

That would be like Yakuza, Jaffe can do the finishing hold on Luke and then they can smash chairs on each other, and they can make fun of Garnett's age. :P

Well, I haven't because I don't like platformers. But OK.

Still sounds stupid, but then I've never understood people's hangups with having a gazillion different weapons that do totally different things. A gun is a gun, but bigger guns are usually better. Beyond that, I don't particularly care.

Exactly what they're trying to avoid. Every gun is useful for specific situations. No weapon is every full replaced.

Also, you really should play Ratchet games. The crazy weapons in the game are the main reason Resistance was high on my list of games to keep watching, back since it was called I-8.

we talked to him at gamer's day and he said he wants to do it soon, so we're going to hook that up.

If I was a girl I'd give you some dome after that show. I would LOVE to hear Jaffe and the 1Up crew on the show. LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVEEEEEE it.

Oh and big ups to Luke on that microtranactions rant. I think Gamespot, 1Up, and IGN need to band together and have a microtransactions ranting scale and give EA's Tiger Woods game a 1 out of 10 in that department.

What other way will the gamer's get it? They need to NOT buy this stuff.

Agreed; the type of microtransactions should affect the score of the game, which already often takes value for money into account.

As an aside, I'm only recently (this week) getting into gaming podcasts, and so I checked out Gamespot, IGN and 1up's last shows. Consider what my brain looks like after such an insight into US gaming culture (I'm Australian). 1up are doing a much better job at not... making bad television, which is what the other two are doing. (The best gaming show on the net for my money is still Consolevania .... TEAM!)

OK, so I'm listening to the podcast now and I'm in the middle segment and I have a question:

What's with the whole fascination with out-of-this-world weaponry? A couple of weeks ago, I learned about a sniper rifle (in Resistance) that slowed down time while you were zoomed in. Today, I hear about a rocket launcher where you can pause the rocket in mid air and retarget. In multiplayer, you can just leave it suspended (Price's words) at a choke point and wait for people to come through. Does this sound retarded to anybody else but me? What's wrong with meat-and-potatoes pistols and rifles?

Before playing with Resistance at Gamer's Day, I sort of wondered the same thing, Odysseus, why can't it just be some simple pistol/rifle stuff for MP -- now, MP in Resistance (which I haven't played) isn't something I'm terribly excited about, but after seeing some of the cool stuff you can do with the Auger (erects a shield in front of you) and the Bullsye (sticky targets an enemy so that you can shoot and hit it from anywhere for a limited amount of time) -- I saw a lot of potential for unique situations and scenarios in single player where the weapons and they way they are deployed become almost like solving mini-on-the-fly puzzles. To me, that was an encouraging possibility.

In MP? We'll see.

Needler?

No fully automatic assault rifles in the same future as galactic space travel?

Power Shields?

One-hit kill lunge swords?

Rocket Launchers?

I think you'd be the last one to write off Resistance's MP before you played it.

From the sounds of it, seems like it might be right up you alley.

Except for the pastel color scheme that is.

:P

Luke summed up my feelings on microtransactions very well.

People said I was over reacting about horse armour in Oblivion. I still think microtransactions are moronic, both in their actual existance and the people that buy them.

Do you think somebody who buys something like Geometry Wars, Alien Hominid, or Criminal Crackdown for $5-$10 is moronic?

Great job guys, another great podcast. I'd love to see more devs on there (Doug Perry, Andy Gavin, Jason Rubin, Amy Hennig). It's pretty rare that gamers get to hear words straight from the mouth of the developers withough a PR sheild in place, let's get to know these guys. I think helping to understand their ideas better will and could yield a better understanding and appreciation of the games they make.

I agree with this post.

You know, I just now figured out what that gun is useful for (I know, big duuh). I've never really been able to get a grip on that gun from just reading descriptions of it, but one of the game sites has a clip where it's used against what I assume is a boss creature. The player uses it to tag an area near the boss, runs to a safer position, and then fires a shitload of bullets around the cover region and at thetag that was placed near the monster. That along with the Hailstorm (seems to basically let you lay your own cover fire) really makes me think there is a crapload of potential for strategic gunplay that I really haven't encountered in all that many FPS.

There's a secondary way to use the Bullseye strategically too. You can put a tag on the ground or on a wall, start shooting, and create a swarm of bullets around that spot.

That could create some real havoc in tight hallways and choke points, hmmm?

Me likey.

If it's possible to camp choke points, I'm going to squeal for glee like an 8yr old girl. :)

"You better be bringing the marshmallows bitches cuz I got's me a tent set-up over here!"

Or...

[Gandalf]

"You shall not pass!"

Hailstorm should be my favorite as I will just spammm that bitch everywhere. The human assault rifle is standard fps fodder but it looks cool as hell with a mix of M-16A2/Thompson/Dragonov.

Has anything been said in regards to customizing the weapons loadout in MP? I'm assuming that there's something in place, but I wonder how deep it goes. If it allows you to ban specific weapons, as opposed to just general weapon types, then the wonkiness of certain weapons shouldn't have to be that much of a concern.

Agreed on this post. I was going to say this last time for the Bully Podcast as well, since it got me interested in a game I would generally NEVER be interested in from the pre-release.

I think it was mentioned that only 8 or so of the weapons are avaliable in Multiplayer, so the super-crazy ones won't be in there. The time-slowing Sniper for one, would probably have a regular Sniper in exchange?

I just listened to it last night, and holy christ the "take my load" part had me crying from laughter.

I honestly listened to that segment about 15 times.
