"Tell him/her that I said hello"

I always tell him/her I said hello from a mutual friend.

I just did a couple weeks ago. I was at a party with one of my friends that I grew up with but haven't seen in the last couple of years. Just started a new job a year ago and I'm working with someone who he went to college with and hung out with a continual basis because of his roommates (she used to hang at his place all the time) At the party, he asked me if I was still working at the same place and if I knew "so-and-so" and to "tell her I said hi"... which I did know her but didn't get to see her too often.

It was actually pretty nice because me and the girl in question didn't really talk often but I told her and it spawned a new friendship in the office :)

Well sometimes it turns into:

Me: so and so said hi
Them: oh how is so and so? Did they do what not?
Me: idk
Them: rant about that person

All of you tell everyone you know I said hi.

No wait, tell everyone you can I said hello. Even if you don't know them.

EVERYONE MUST KNOW I SAID HELLO

A friend and i have a running joke like this and he swears he forgets and comes up with a different reason why he forgot ever single time :)

When I'm asked to do this, it becomes my life's mission to make sure that the hello arrives to its destination. I'm like a hobbit taking a ring to a volcano.

The Danes do this a lot. My wife is danish and her parents are always telling us who is saying hi to us.

I think it's pointless. Drop them a text if you want to say hello...

I'm failing to see the problem here, despite being as socially awkward as they come. It just lets someone know that a friend is thinking of them, a quick and easy way of acknowledging another person without a specific reason or occasion.

I always try to find as many people who i know are going to see some one and tell them each individually to say hi for me to the host.

My dream is that they all approach the host and say "Not Spaceghost says hi by the way!" all at the same time, and it's incredibly awkward for everyone involved.

It's like that Russell Howard joke.. (rude humour)

As I went out on a first date last night, my dad said to me "Give her one from me son" with a thumbs up and a grin.

It was going really well - dinner was good, she laughed at my jokes, she was beautiful, and then we went back to hers...

I don't think I'll be seeing her again though, after shouting "that's from my dad!" as I shot my load into her.

I have forgotten, yes. But I will definitely bring it up if I can fit it in conversation or bring that person up for whatever reason I will throw it in there. I mean I don't say "Hello, "so-and-so says Hi" as my greeting though right off the bat.
