For those who have ADHD

Do you normally wake up feeling refreshed or do lyou usally drag out of bed? If so were you perscribed any medication to enhance deep sleep?

Mononofu, see your doctor. Restless sleep with ADHD can happen, some people are prescribed drugs and some are not. It's often seen as a different problem on its own. If you are having issues, don't rely on what people here have to say. Do what you can to sort it out.

Stuff was shoved down my throat as a teenager. I was tired, angry, and felt sick all the time. It also felt like my heart was racing all the time. At some point I just stopped taking it and those problems kind of just went away. So I can't recommend the stuff.

I already got appointment set up. Also did a sleep study which came back normal. I'm just asking out of curiosity. According to Wikipedia ADHD can interfere with delta wave sleep so it would be nice to know what other folks experience is like.

I'm not sure if I have ADHD or if I'm just lazy, but I have trouble completing tasks that other people complete easily. I've noticed a decline in my focus over the past couple years. Before, I used to be able to read several books in a week, but now I can't even get past the first chapter. I'm scared to talk about it with anyone. I'm not sure if everyone is like this or if it's just me.

Has anyone here taken it? What was it like?

Maybe you just grew up and realized that reading is boring.

5HTP Supplements help with a deep sleep, make dreams awesome and make you feel awesome during the day.

It has no speedy type motivation though.

You will wake up refreshed after taking 5HTP before bed.

Nope tried it, Also melatonin, gylcine, taurine ,rhodiola, gotu kola, ashwaganda....

Phenibut seems to work the best for me but its not for daily use. I take 3 grams once a week and it doesn't have me springing out bed but I feel a little more rested.

Do you exercise during the day?

It could be that your adhd (are you diagnosed?) is causing problems, but it's good to eliminate outside possibilities. Do you use caffeine? Watch tv or use a computer right before bed?

I'm not qualified to say whether you have ADD, but I used to be able to fly though books too. This was when I was really young. But now that I look back on it, reading was always a problem. I was big into Animorphs and Goosebumps and all that stuff, but I actually do remember not being able to grasp everything I was reading. And anything that's technical is so dry that my brain won't even go near it. I'm diagnosed ADHD.

I did wonder whether I just found books boring, but I don't think that's true. I still love reading. The problem is more 'mechanical' more than anything. Also, I have a similar issue with watching films. I always have to either wear earphones so the dialogue is being screamed into my ear, or watch them with subtitles. Do you have an issue with writing? My writing is as choppy as fuck, and I can take hours to write a single paragraph because all I'm doing is re-editing and re-writing and changing shit for hours.

And yes, ADD medication does help these things for some people. To be honest, I feel a bit of resent towards people who take ADHD meds just to get a decent grade.

Yes and I have a PT job that requires me to be active. I eat well, completely elimated refined suger, refined carbs and energy drinks once again for the new year. I get caffeine in the morning from matcha, yerba mate or cacao. No TV or PC in the bedroom.

I always had trouble getting out bed even in elementary school :/

Yep I have all those writing issue. Took the P.E.R.T twice when applying for college and bombed the math section hard. The guy over the test asked if I had a learning disorder but I wasnt sure.

Take 100mg of 5HTP in the morning, 100mg midday, 100mg right before bed. Your dreams will turn into complex HD masterpieces. You will walk up refreshed and all negative thoughts throughout the day will be dulled out.

I missed your question, lol. I don't have issues with my sleep. Sometimes I have mornings where everything is a complete FOG and I lose most of my brain cells. This might be 'normal' though because it doesn't happen all the time.

I used to take Adderall for ADHD or something as a kid.

Hated the stuff, made me feel all 'zonked out', bored, and tired most of the time.

I watched Adderal addiction ruin someone's life, much like a street drug. As far as I'm concerned this drug is the devil.

I'm a bit wary of using 5HTP in the morning because of possible drowsiness.
Adaptogens like Bacopa maybe better suited for that and safer for long term use.

I might try anyhow to see if it helps.

Hopefully you and your physician can find a solution. Good luck.

Might be true for some, but not all. It really annoys me that this is seemingly the entire public perception of it. If anything it's probably the minority, I think we all tend to think the worst of anything that is abused and stretch out the minority because they are the loudest parts of the group. Who cares about positive benefits for people like myself who truly have day to day issues, not class related (graduated in 2011 got my prescription in spring 2012).

It really truly can help people. The second half of this previous year was one of the best I have had in a long time, and adderall helped me overcome a mental struggle I have had for years and never knew existed. I got great grades in school, I am very fast at picking things up and learning or adopting new things, but I have always gotten in my own way.

Adderall has improved my day to day life, by helping me regulate myself and stay on track. I've never felt like I've had more control over my own future, and been able to be as organized and consistent in attaining my goals as I have since I started taking it. There is absolutely a way for it to help improve our lives if you need it, and I told myself for years I didn't even though close friends and my girlfriend had talked to me about possibly getting it prescribed.

So I'm sorry if it bothers me that people just brush off the idea that ADD or ADHD is real or adderall is just a drug to be abused by people that are lazy. it's simply not true, and just an exaggeration of a subset of people who like many others find something in this world to abuse.
Thank you for summing up my feelings very eloquently. There are a lot of negative Nancys in here. Your experiences closely match my own. I'd also like to add that I never got addicted to it. I took it for two years but I haven't renewed my prescription since last June (switched jobs).

Adderall is expensive as fuck here in Canada. It also seems to be not prescribed as much as something like Concerta. I had to ask my doc for it and he looked it up in his big medical encyclopedia right in front of me.

I've tried both and Adderall worked a bit better but ultimately these things aren't a long term solution and you got to find another way to concentrate and get shit done. I have leftovers on hand maybe for exam times but other than that I get by without em now. I haven't used them since the first month I was prescribed them back in september or so.

Back to the cost - your looking at $100 at least for 30 pills if not insured. The company that makes Concerta (methylphenidate aka Ritalin IIRC) has a co pay assist program where you can pay the generic cost and get the real stuff at least here in Canada. With Concerta there is some talk about the generic not being the same due to its time release mechanism or whatever. So go name brand if you can.

Also, if not motivated this shit will not work. Its not the magic pill everyone says it is. You don't take it and automatically spit out a 10 page essay without blinking. Just keeps you focused on the task at hand. If you rather play video games instead of study and start doing that while on Adderall then you'll probably sit there all day playing video games.

There are alternatives that don't have amphetamines and are not schedule 2 narcotics like Adderall is. Modafinil for example is schedule 4.

Modalert worked surprisingly well at first. Tolerance set in very quickly for me. (around three 400mg doses)

Low dose selegiline might be useful for some people also.

There are legal drugs called nootropics that can have similar effects to adderall. Noopept is a potent one. Piracetam is probably the most popular. I can't recommend them for long-term use because of mood-dulling side effects (when i experimented with them i felt like a robot, completely dispassionate), but they might help with focusing on a short-term basis. It's no disease treatment.

Still, I can't in good conscience tell anyone to take them without first consulting with a doctor.

It only makes you sleep at night time. During the day its pure serotonin building baby, Feeling good man but nothing to extreme. It just makes you feel fine with no buzz or anything like that.

The main thing is the awesome nights sleep you have off the stuff. I used to wake up every 40 or so minutes during the night before i started taking the shit.

The dreams are also fucking awesome. Really good HD dreams.

I don't think many doctors will be familiar with nootropics.

Right now I take:

Piracetam 800mg
Sulbutiamine 600mg
Idebenone 50 or 180mg

with Shilajit and Ashwaganda daily. Celastrus oil (jyotishmat) ocassionally for a nice pick me up. Only had it for a couple of weeks.

Used

Pramiracetam
Noopept
Centrophenoxine
Alpha GPC
CDP choline
Modafinil (modalert)
Selegiline
Aniracetam
Cerebrolysin

I felt Aniracetam was more effective than Noopept. I broke my other scale so Noopept sits on the shelve.

So how do you go about getting prescribed for the stuff? I called a couple hospitals asking about it and it seemed like they had no idea what I was talking about.

Adderall is glorious if you take it as perscribed. If you drink you should quit while taking it. It's an amphetamine so it can be addictive if you abuse it. Coming off of the stuff is dreadful.

I'm like this. I'm not sure what the cause is, but I suspect several possibilities:

Depression
Bad sleeping habits
Insomnia
Medication
Masturbation
Hereditary problems

Who knows?

Also, lack of exercise. Masturbation in excess isn't healthy. Bad sleeping habits is probably the primary reason.

OP Adderrol is a shit drug that is addictive and essentially a bandaid to the actual problem.

I wish it work that well for me. When I use to go to a quack I bought supplements from a company called NeuroScience inc. Expensive bollocks but I slept like a baby and had crazy lucid dreams. Was able to rise from bed with ease and actually focus. Still don't really understand why. Nothing I've done to date has had that effect and it wasn't just a placebo.

I guess urine and salvia test that measure neurotransmitters can be useful. Still ultimately worthless if there is no affordable way to mange the underlying issue.

Talk to a doctor or psychologist.

more of a downer type dude

took it to get fucked up a couple times and i felt all bugged out. people even said i looked weird. made me hella mean as well

If the OP has a neurological disorder any treatment is essentially a band aid to the actual problem. Many drugs like Adderall are good for managing ADHD symptoms. CBT could also be helpful.

People are definitely taking too much. it was my friend who I shared many similarities with whom ultimately convinced me to see if I qualify for a prescription. He ended up taking high doses around 20-35mg and extended release before he got off of it. His psychiatrist just gave him more and didn't regulate enough. You shouldn't have to take that much, or need XR. You certainly should never take such a high dose or XR if you have never taken it before either.

Yeah absolutely. After taking a half pill I can't believe people take a full pill of this daily. I understand there are those who need it, but using it with regularity must get very taxing.

I've had the same "symptoms" for my first two years of college. Everything he describes in his OP perfectly describes my "condition." Adderrol was a miracle drug for me. Oh wait, Adderrol is a miracle drug for every distracted person. I would say, "man reading these chapters in my textbook is a drag. Why can't I read for fun anymore? This shit makes me tired!" Then I discovered discipline and structure.

I'm a firm believer in science, love science, and always seek scientific answers for most things in life. However, Adderrol and 90% of all prescription drugs are over prescribed, prescribed to the wrong people, and for the wrong reasons.

My point is, there are safer and healthier alternatives than turning to amphetamines for a quick, simple fix that will last you X amount of years, and X amount of dose increases before your Dr. stops your prescriptions because your in the early stages of developing a heart condition. Have fun embracing withdraws!

I say choose an alternative route because its ultimately safer and better for the longterm.

Clearly you do not know what science is, because you have:
1. Contradicted dozens of Scientific studies and work on understanding ADD, a recognized disorder without any evidence.
2. Pulled a statistic out of thin air, something Science would reject intrinsically.
3. Cannot spell Adderall.

Way to completely ignore the larger point in my post to be a condescending little shit!

What's even more hilarious is how you claim there are dozens of scientific studies without referencing these studies. Not that I don't believe its existence, but your exhibiting as much ignorance as I am.

I have NEVER been able to read several books a week, and I dont have ADHD @_@ wth dude

And now I feel bad about it, I mean I do study but I always feel its not enough I just do the required stuff, readings, semminare, labs, read ppt, watch lessons recorded once too fuck this is why I hate comming here. I never sit for hours and study I do it in bursts then I HAVE TO FUCKING QUIT YOU DICKS I do read before bed some fiction but it takes a month to read a book for me unless I focus on it like studying also might start watching lain today

Always someone complaining about being better than me. Fuck it

Noopept has caught my curiosity. I did some digging to find known side-effects but to no avail. Any suggestions a reliable place to find this?

I started taking this last year and I can tell you it's the best thing I ever did for myself. I was diagnosed with adult ADHD I'm more focused, I feel calm-which is funny considering it's speed. I would go to work an anxious, unfocused, exhausted mess-and now I'm completly straightened out. I sometimes don't take it on the weekend and I can immediately tell a difference. It's also helped my marriage in as far as I'm more motivated to help out and do things, an I'm less cranky and moody.

It's wonderful.

The first time I took it, it was as if a fog in my head cleared for the first time in my life and for once I felt like everyone else around me-not easily exhausted.
