I'm not sure if I have ADHD or if I'm just lazy, but I have trouble completing tasks that other people complete easily. I've noticed a decline in my focus over the past couple years. Before, I used to be able to read several books in a week, but now I can't even get past the first chapter. I'm scared to talk about it with anyone. I'm not sure if everyone is like this or if it's just me.
Has anyone here taken it? What was it like?
5HTP Supplements help with a deep sleep, make dreams awesome and make you feel awesome during the day.
It has no speedy type motivation though.
You will wake up refreshed after taking 5HTP before bed.

Do you exercise during the day?
It could be that your adhd (are you diagnosed?) is causing problems, but it's good to eliminate outside possibilities. Do you use caffeine? Watch tv or use a computer right before bed?
I'm not qualified to say whether you have ADD, but I used to be able to fly though books too. This was when I was really young. But now that I look back on it, reading was always a problem. I was big into Animorphs and Goosebumps and all that stuff, but I actually do remember not being able to grasp everything I was reading. And anything that's technical is so dry that my brain won't even go near it. I'm diagnosed ADHD.
I did wonder whether I just found books boring, but I don't think that's true. I still love reading. The problem is more 'mechanical' more than anything. Also, I have a similar issue with watching films. I always have to either wear earphones so the dialogue is being screamed into my ear, or watch them with subtitles. Do you have an issue with writing? My writing is as choppy as fuck, and I can take hours to write a single paragraph because all I'm doing is re-editing and re-writing and changing shit for hours.
And yes, ADD medication does help these
things for some people. To be honest, I feel a bit of resent towards people who take ADHD meds just to get a decent grade.
Nope tried it, Also melatonin, gylcine, taurine ,rhodiola, gotu kola, ashwaganda....
Phenibut seems to work the best for me but its not for daily use. I take 3 grams once a week and it doesn't have me springing out bed but I feel a little more rested.
Take 100mg of 5HTP in the morning, 100mg midday, 100mg right before bed. Your dreams will turn into complex HD masterpieces. You will walk up refreshed and all negative thoughts throughout the day will be dulled out.
Hopefully you and your physician can find a solution. Good luck.Yes and I have a PT job that requires me to be active. I eat well, completely elimated refined suger, refined carbs and energy drinks once again for the new year. I get caffeine in the morning from matcha, yerba mate or cacao. No TV or PC in the bedroom.
I always had trouble getting out bed even in elementary school :/
Thank you for summing up my feelings very eloquently. There are a lot of negative Nancys in here. Your experiences closely match my own. I'd also like to add that I never got addicted to it. I took it for two years but I haven't renewed my prescription since last June (switched jobs).Might be true for some, but not all. It really annoys me that this is seemingly the entire public perception of it. If anything it's probably the minority, I think we all tend to think the worst of anything that is abused and stretch out the minority because they are the loudest parts of the group. Who cares about positive benefits for people like myself who truly have day to day issues, not class related (graduated in 2011 got my prescription in spring 2012).
It really truly can help people. The second half of this previous year was one of the best I have had in a long time, and adderall helped me overcome a mental struggle I have had for years and never knew existed. I got great grades in school, I am very fast at picking things up and learning or adopting new things, but I have always gotten in my own way.
Adderall has improved my day to day life, by helping me regulate myself and stay on track. I've never felt like I've had more control over my own future, and been able to be as organized and consistent in attaining my goals as I have since I started taking it. There is absolutely a way for it to help improve our lives if you need it, and I told myself for years I didn't even though close friends and my girlfriend had talked to me about possibly getting it prescribed.
So I'm sorry if it bothers me that people just brush off the idea that ADD or ADHD is real or adderall is just a drug to be abused by people that are lazy. it's simply not true, and just an exaggeration of a subset of people who like many others find something in this world to abuse.
so are you really able to buy adderall in a chain like k-mart, or was that a joke

There are alternatives that don't have amphetamines and are not schedule 2 narcotics like Adderall is. Modafinil for example is schedule 4.
I'm a bit wary of using 5HTP in the morning because of possible drowsiness.
Adaptogens like Bacopa maybe better suited for that and safer for long term use.
I might try anyhow to see if it helps.
There are legal drugs called nootropics that can have similar effects to adderall. Noopept is a potent one. Piracetam is probably the most popular. I can't recommend them for long-term use because of mood-dulling side effects (when i experimented with them i felt like a robot, completely dispassionate), but they might help with focusing on a short-term basis.
Still, I can't in good conscience tell anyone to take them without first consulting with a doctor.

I'm like this. I'm not sure what the cause is, but I suspect several possibilities:
Depression
Bad sleeping habits
Insomnia
Medication
Masturbation
Hereditary problems
Who knows?
It only makes you sleep at night time. During the day its pure serotonin building baby, Feeling good man but nothing to extreme. It just makes you feel fine with no buzz or anything like that.
The main thing is the awesome nights sleep you have off the stuff. I used to wake up every 40 or so minutes during the night before i started taking the shit.
The dreams are also fucking awesome. Really good HD dreams.
So how do you go about getting prescribed for the stuff? I called a couple hospitals asking about it and it seemed like they had no idea what I was talking about.
Also, lack of exercise. Masturbation in excess isn't healthy. Bad sleeping habits is probably the primary reason.
OP Adderrol is a shit drug that is addictive and essentially a bandaid to the actual problem.

People are definitely taking too much. it was my friend who I shared many similarities with whom ultimately convinced me to see if I qualify for a prescription. He ended up taking high doses around 20-35mg and extended release before he got off of it. His psychiatrist just gave him more and didn't regulate enough. You shouldn't have to take that much, or need XR. You certainly should never take such a high dose or XR if you have never taken it before either.
If the OP has a neurological disorder any treatment is essentially a band aid to the actual problem. Many drugs like Adderall are good for managing ADHD symptoms. CBT could also be helpful.
If the OP has ADD or a similar disorder, there is no cure. Daily treatment is very effective and has massive amounts of science to support it.
I've had the same "symptoms" for my first two years of college. Everything he describes in his OP perfectly describes my "condition." Adderrol was a miracle drug for me. Oh wait, Adderrol is a miracle drug for every distracted person. I would say, "man reading these chapters in my textbook is a drag. Why can't I read for fun anymore? This shit makes me tired!" Then I discovered discipline and structure.
I'm a firm believer in science, love science, and always seek scientific answers for most things in life. However, Adderrol and 90% of all prescription drugs are over prescribed, prescribed to the wrong people, and for the wrong reasons.
Clearly you do not know what science is, because you have:
1. Contradicted dozens of Scientific studies and work on understanding ADD, a recognized disorder without any evidence.
2. Pulled a statistic out of thin air, something Science would reject intrinsically.
3. Cannot spell Adderall.

Noopept has caught my curiosity. I did some digging to find known side-effects but to no avail. Any suggestions a reliable place to find this?
I was diagnosed with adult ADHD I'm more focused, I feel calm-which is funny considering it's speed.
Yes, my doc said the same.I hear it has this effect on people with ADHD. For people withouth ADHD, the effect is like speed
