Tell me where to live GAF

London but I'm not sure as a Northerner if you'd be able to cut it. You're probably enough of a bellend to be an honorary southerner though :P

I have no idea what snakes and spiders have to do with danger money.

Danger money = money to compensate for the danger that I'll be exposed to, I.E. bogans and spiders

Southern California.

Los Angeles if you like doing things or Orange County if you're more chill.

It's basically paradise. People all over the world would die for a chance to live here.

I don't like L.A. very much, it's a bit too sprawly for me, but if you like it then whatever.

I'm sure I can cut it, just not sure I want to ;)

I'm not sure if I understand this. Why would they require money? Or is it something like "Better compensate myself for the spider that scared me today."?

I'm kidding mate. The concept comes from the high levels of pay that people going to 3rd world countries received due to the danger they'd face, for example someone being sent to work in South Sudan on a building project would be paid a huge amount of money to compensate them for the risks they're taking. The joke is that Australia isn't really that bad.

Singapore does look pretty phenomenal. Really freaking hot/humid, though.

Thanks, I was imagining you thinking bogans run around stabbing people in the dark and residents get sent to hospital every other day due to serious complications from giant spider bites. I wouldn't put it past most people :P

The heat/humidity wouldn't be much different than where I live now.
I think he could bear it just fine.

It really depends on the person. My old history teacher from school grew up in Cairns (a town in the tropics of Australia), and she traveled south right after she finished Uni, just because she wasn't able to handle the constant sweating and thickness of the air during the wet season.

As a born and bred Londoner, I'd back it over Manchester (tiny in comparison, full of dodgy haircuts and accents) but with all the other options in the world I'd bugger off elsewhere. I'm retraining as a sparky in my sparetime with a view to possibly emigrating some time in the future and Germany, Australia and Canada are currently topping my list of places of interest.

I think my problem with London is the kind of people who got there on a train from Cambridgeshire and moved into an east London flat. With their low cut vests and their sailor tats (twats).

They have just one gear on their fixie bikes, with a plus one for their gigs at night (he plays synth, they all play synth).

They shame the lands of my ancestors (East London) with their behaviour. It's unlikely you'll be able to afford a flat where most of those twats hangout as the rental market in Shoreditch and surrounding areas has gone through the roof in recent years.

The kind of rent I'd be looking at (just in terms of the first couple of years) would be:

£700/$1100/40000NT/AU$1100/NZ$1500

what would that get me in your various cities?

$1100 (I'm guessing that's per month) won't get you much in Australia, though the wages will be higher so you'll have to take that into account.

One bed flat in Walthamstow, London (zone 3) for that money. Not the nicest of areas but the village part is nice, transport links are excellent (17 minutes or less to Liverpool street via train or less than 20 minutes to Euston/king's Cross by tube). Not sure about other areas of London as I've only lived East and North. A lot of out of towners end up south of the river as rent used to be cheaper down there but not so sure now.

Yeah that was per month.

I'd rather live in a tiny flat in a good area of a city than a big flat in a crap area. Location is really important to me and I'd be spending most of my time out of the house anyway.

I live in Hong Kong, and it's amazing, and not that expensive unless you absolutely have to live that Western expat lifestyle with all the food and convenience etc. exactly like you got it at home.

But probably real tough getting jobs if not at multinationals in the financial / business sector.

If I did, which I won't, it would be Austin, but yeah I'll stay away from red states (I'm a socialist!)

Everyone describes Cali/the west coast as a dream location. I've never been so I can't really say.

I'm from the Northeast. The New York City area is very nice, I live about an hour away from the city in Connecticut. Lot's of good opportunities here as far as starting a family goes if that's what you'd be interested in. The city itself is great but its very big and kind of overwhelming. I couldn't imagine living there.

I go to school in Boston though and love it. Great city. Has a city feel without being super big. I would love to live here when I'd be done with school.
