I felt like GameFAQS died in the past few years so I just migrated here. Of course I realized this:

The Super Best Friends kept mentioning it so I peeked my head in to see what was going on. The gaming side kept me intrigued for a bit then I started lurking in Off Topic until I gained the ability to join about a year later, then kept myself out of trouble until I became a full member.

Same. I think I heard about it back in the Bozon/Cassette Machina days but it wasn't until the Zaibatsu kept talking about it that I checked it out for more than leaks.

I believe it was because we used to read reviews and opinions about upcoming Jrpg from people like Bepbo in other places, at one point I just tried to register and it got through.

Man i actually forgot how i first ran into this place.

I know i lurked for a long time as my free email account did not work to sign-up or something like that.

I have been on here quite a few years after i got my account and it does not get any better online than neogaf.

i find myself in off-topic way more these days though.

Friends talked about how game devs posted here, and since I wanted to be a cool game dev I signed up. I am now only a normal game dev, and mostly only lurk OT.

In early 2013 i was reading an ign article about the alleged power of the wii u and it linked to neogaf as a source. Now, ign at that time had entertaining people in the comments like psychops3trutth, but the wiiu speculation thread was something else. i read like 80 pages of speculation, with people like blu and fourth storm dropping tidbits of knowledge all over the place, and krizzx arguing for the best possible specs at every turn. It was glorious. I applied in early 2014, college email was locked to me for a year, and when i called up to get it fixed a year later i had an 8 month old email saying i had been accepted. Thats my story i suppose.

My first intro to neogaf was cross assault for SFxT. That was one of the most entertaining events of the contemporary gaming world, and the threads were hilarious. I lurked for a bit then forgot about GAF. Eventually signed up.

Back in the day I would post on Cloudchaser/Xengen/Modojo and get sales charts from the weekly Media Create threads on GAF and add them together with other sales from around the world to compare GameCube vs. Xbox threads. I would've joined earlier but needed an official ISP email as opposed to whatever Hotmail email I used back in the day. Eventually got that ISP email.

Originally I was posting at IGN. During PS3/Xbox 360/Wii release, things got real ugly and a lot of fanboys felt like making it seem like WWE invading WCW invading ECW. I knew a few real good posters and Chubigans is the one I really liked following. I eventually saw him bring up NeoGAF and I followed through.

Rest is history and a lot of PMs by folks telling me how to post and how not to post.

Checked FGW without an account for dates and such. Cross Assault drama thread made me stay, only place I could find online that was actively discussing it.

I think I found out about this site in 2008 on NSider2, but I didn't have a paid E-Mail at the time so I couldn't sign up. Over the years I saw it come up all over the net, from GameFAQs to /v/ to GameSpot to Tumblr to Twitter to irc chats and I started to lurk more in the year leading up to my sign up. I think I finally decided to sign up after reading all of the drama leading up to and after the PS4 and Xbox One reveals and then realizing that now that I was in college I could sign up.

Brotherrrrrr :)

Member since 2012, but have lurked since about 2006, I didn't join right away because I was already posting regularly on 1up boards and another unnamed board, then later I posted on gog boards and the unnamed board and I didn't really need a third board to post on. Then gog boards started to change and the other board died, so I joined gaf

I don't quite remember how I first heard about NeoGAF. I lurked and was really impressed about the leaks and some off-topic threads. Although I do have a academic email now from University didn't have a legit email so I ask my friend's work email. I waited a couple of weeks to be a junior and here I am now. I love this place.

Similar to the OP. Was on Gamespot since 2008, mainly the PC & System Wars board. Loved the site because it was moderated enough that you could have a good discussion. They changed policies to make it more loose, which let the trolls come out of the woodwork. Then they redesigned the site and chased most of us off.

Moved over to RPG Codex. Still stick there because they are the best CRPG site on the net, but I wanted a main forum that's bit more controlled and less.. Blatantly offensive at times.

This forum has good moderation, which can get overzealous at times, but that's part of the deal I suppose. Liked the ideals so I signed up.

IGN made the access to most of their boards exclusive to IGN Insider paying members so I've migrated here. That was eons ago.

IIRC, I saw it mentioned on GameFAQs. I lurked for a while and eventually dropped GameFAQs because most of the game boards I frequented were shitholes.

Came here for the first RE5 trailer tried to join but lost email info for account. Was on ign at the time for like 5 years while lurking here. Tired again with a new email and I moved here from ign

Landed on thread from search with keywords (lost? irreplaceable?) related to Jon Stewart leaving Daily Show.

Seeking stories, opinions, ideas (months ago) for whatever disillusionment I was feeling. Registered green and 'put on hold' for however long... long enough for the thread (and my angst gloom) to move down the off-topic page.

But I've been lurk mode and some of the comments and conversations have some smarts and general civility. Maybe I'll gate my game on!

I was quite active over at GameFAQs and decided it was time to move on to a more reasonable forum.
I eventually got accepted here and fell headfirst into NeoGAF vs Denis Dyack, which, in my opinion, was a shit slinging contest that ran contrary to what this forum is about.

So I went back to GameFAQs.

Eventually, I came to my senses, returned to GAF and have been posting sporadically ever since.

Had been at Gametrailers for a couple of years and always heard them (and the rest of the internet) refer back to Gaf as a source for a lot of the info they had. I started lurking a bit, and the difference was night and day. The level of moderation and the way people talked here made it seem like an elite club or something compared to the other forums. One of the biggest reasons though, was that Neogaf wasn't blocked at my job. I could always have a tab open and check in during downtime.

After a couple months of lurking signed up and waited like everyone else.

Hmmm, I was an active user of the BioWare forums starting from Mass Effect. Dragon Age 2 came along and was being previewed (was a big fan of DA:O) with shit like this being shown:

da2ot-04.gif

And from what they were hinting/advertising I knew that DA2 was going to the shitter but stating my opinion against BioWare fanboys was blasphemous of course. Found the NeoGAF OT for DA2 and signed up. Eventually became a gaffer and never looked back to the cesspool of the BioWare forums.

Starmen.net used to be my forum to haunt but I started lurking in GAF in the lead up to Brawl since the Smash Dojo thread was real active. Once Brawl came out in Japan, I was glued to GAF for all the info coming in about the game, and I got sucked into the rest of GAF as a result, mostly because of how active the forum is.

I know NeoGAF since maybe 2006-2007, but my first attempt to get a registration at NeoGAF was in April 2008 near the release of Grand Theft Auto IV.

After 8 months, I received this email in early December 2008:
Dear Jason Frost,

Unfortunately your registration at NeoGAF did not meet our membership requirements. Therefore your registration was deleted.

Sorry,
NeoGAF
I think this was the reason:

:(

And my second attempt was on November 19 2011.

Then I got approved on February 2 2012:
Account validated at NeoGAF!

All the best,
NeoGAF
This time, it took about 3 months to get a response.

I lurked for 1 1/2 years then realized I had a ISP email address for the last 10 years

And lettersGAF was having fun and I wanted to say hi to them and benny_

At the time I joined back in 2008 GAF was the premier destination for adult discussions about video games (Killzone 2, Fix this shit GG, ect...) The adult discussion part is where so many other boards fail. We have top rate Mods that do not tolerate the fuckery you find on other sites.

GAF is a special place no other site could replace it for me. It's a private club of sorta-minded individuals that aren't afraid to share their opinions. However, if your opinion is stupid it's a sacrifice to our one of our Blood Gods Bish or EL.
If you can make it on GAF you can make it anywhere, kid.

I of course stayed for OT. You know how the story goes.

Signed up because I kept hearing about it on the Super best friendcast

Forgot about it

Then #GG happened and the gaf thread was the least BS forum on that so I ended up participating in that

Stayed for RPGs & mobas

It was because of the funny thread I got linked to. Didn't know what Neogaf was till other people posted 'scoops' and big posts from here I clued in it's a big gaming website. Haaaah. Thought I belonged, glad I got accepted. Love this place.

Heard about GAF when listening to 1up.com podcasts. Didn't check out GAF until a year or two when 1up.com completely fell apart. Lurked for many many years. Decided to finally sign up. It's a pretty good forum with some stand out community threads and some great threads in the Gaming and Off Topic sections. Has its downsides too but the pros heavily outweigh those.

Saw Neogaf referenced in some articles (Neogaf Member ...... found out) and so on, so I started lurking for a while, so NeoGaf became my go to Game-news site...and then I just decided to join :) Nothing special I guess, thought eh community is something special.

#PS4NoDRM was the first time I heard about Neogaf. It was also a time when I was just tired of IGN's shitty comments section. So I just started coming here more and more and I signed up for an account right after E3 2013, I believe.

I wanted to post on the pick-up thread. Signed up, waited a few months and then posted a photo about my Star Wars sneakers.

I signed up here in January 2013 after being linked here from another forum. I waited for my account to be approved. In January 2015 it was finally approved and I started posting.

I started visiting around when the first Dead or Alive 4 screenshots leaked, it were the first or some of the first screenshots of a Xbox 360 game (it was still called Xenos then).
I believe I registered shorlty after.

I used to go to GameFAQs alot back in the day, but it just really wasn't my thing, considering most game boards are segmented into individual games instead of having just one for games in general.

I started lurking GAF after a member referenced it and signed up for an account a few years later for the Touhou Community Thread.

Fun fact: I had a nightmare about being banned from GAF (with a different avatar) and the next day when I checked my email my account had been approved.
