Tencent invests in PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds studio Bluehole

It is getting hard to get the hold of all Tencent's investments even outside of China:

• Riot Games
• 50% Epic Games
• 25% Acti-Blizzard
• Supercell
• 9% Pocket Gems
• 9% Frontier
• ?% Bluehole
• ?% DayZ creator new studio
• There is more but smaller

This method of investing into multiple competing companies looks like a game studio Vanguard. Chinese companies have also taken over Warframe and Runescape.

Meanwhile at Valve:
I'm surprised they haven't tried to go after the mobile market in Japan by buying a part of Square Enix.

Meh, neither. Doesn't really matter to the players who the investors are. I guess indirectly you could say it's a good thing because it means the developers are making money and will hopefully keep improving the game?
I disagree. I look at Fortnite and worry that monetisation will get even more aggressive than it currently is.

Figured Tencent or Nexon would jump on this one soon. Good fit for them and makes sure that the Bluehole has the resources necessary to support it.

Smart move honestly, get 10s of millions from tencent, then generate 10s a millions a year from them marketing/owning it in China.
Only real losers are any current Chinese plyers, who most likely will be geolocked in coming months.
