Terminatyr Genisys - Trailer 2

for someone who already forgot a lot of Terminator story other than the first 2, I had no idea what's the story or premise gonna be in this trailer. seems like there's a barrier of entry just to understand what the trailer is trying to show.

I asked this question when Salvation came out, and I'll ask it again: How fucking hard is it to make a film where we simply watch John lead the resistance and fight the Terminators?

I really think a relatively straight-forward war flick about the human resistance, with a few kick-ass action sequences, would work really damn well.

Instead they have to keep making everything so damn complicated.

What is the fear about having a film where adult John is the protagonist?

That's a fairly boring/straightforward film about humans versus evil robots, honestly. Time travel loops are a big part of the Terminator concept; take that out and it's not really interesting or unique.

I literally vomited blood, like actually vomited blood and went to the hospital...

Now I'm better after watching Terminator 2 again....

Why is Genisys corny as fuck when T2 is this slick, almost Noir looking thriller?

Still amused at how they have 4 Terminators in this movie. FUCKING 4.

I'm 99% sure 80s Arnold and the Asian T-1000 will get killed off quick. Which sets up the rest of the movie to be Old Arnold vs Robo-John. They'll probably copy and paste different action scenes and lines from T2 (such as "get out" and "im back") and call it a day with some other twist in the ending which will make no fucking sense. All while taking a huge collective shit on Cameron's work.

Sigh.

That's a great trailer. Wish they did other movies like that.

(movie trailer voice) "This fall, when a family falls apart, Bruce Willis fights to keep love alive. But he can't, because he's actually dead the whole movie.

Sixth Sense."

This whole "twist" Shown in the trailer

Is essentially what the original ending to Terminator Salvation was, until it leaked and people on the internet violently raged against the idea

I dont understand why these talent-fuck-les writers keep feeling the need to muck with characters like this

In the next one, Sarah Connor will be the terminator, because why the fuck not. Kyle is also a terminator, and they'll have a (literally) steamy cyborg-sex scene, conceiving cyborg John Connor, who later time travels to terminate his own mother.

I wouldn't say plotty, just infodumps in between the shoot shoot bang bang

Then you'd say wrong. The first Terminator for example is essentially a rift on predestination combined with elements of classics such as "the minotaur and its maze" as well as tropes such as "the doomed lovers" thrown in for good measure. In short its very character and detail dense all of which is pretty remarkable given how much of it is pretty "shoot shoot bang bang". Clean, sparse dialogue really works well in the film layered carefully across what feels like a never ending chase. It also has a number of nice subtle touches -
for example notice Reese gets to smile properly once in the whole film when Sarah jokes with him in the brief moment before the terminator arrives once again
. That's the kind of subtle character work you just don't see in 99% of action films for a start.

Terminator 2 is actually even heavier on character development although I'd argue it's weaker on density of detail and world building and narrative coherense with a very soft middle section (that was cut down from an even bigger and softer middle section). It's also interesting that after establishing with The Terminator that the whole thing was locked in - per-ordained essentially - Cameron decided to change the game to an anti-predestination focus and make clear the future could be changed (expanding on a tiny bit of dialogue from Reese in the first film). I'd say T2 while a lot more fun and action orientated even than the first is the weaker film overall (compared to The Terminator) and that it actually adds little in terms of world building other that getting the franchise out of where the first film left it (with the core story completely told).

After that though T3 and the one with Bale were all over the place and far inferior to Cameron's two Terminator pictures.

Myself despite seeing the lure of the world Cameron created I almost wish he'd left things with the perfectly crafted and tightly closed original - it told the whole story and everything since has felt like a light addendum to the main course.

haha this isnt a trailer, its a full story synopsis. who the fuck thought this would be a good idea? awful. not that it bothers me much, last terminator film i seen is 3

Except that John wasn't going to become a bad guy. They just created a terminator version of him to continue leading the rebels and inspire them

Twist: Sarah 404's mid sex and has to roll off, not getting pregnant and creating an alternate alternate trilogy timeline where humans force robots underground leading robots having to send reprogrammed humans back in time to protect Robo-Sarah

I hope that when the rights revert back to Cameron that he makes a 30 minute movie that will fix the timeline, which will then earn about 3 billion at the BO.

Cameron then locks the rights in a vault never to be opened again.

The End.

This really does seem like a response to how shitpoor the word of mouth is. It probably isn't (the trailer's likely been done for awhile now), but it really does seem that way.

"Fuck, nobody likes anything we're doing with this movie."
"Alright. Just start throwing everything into the trailers."
"All of it?"
"Nah, not all of it. Save Doctor Who. But we gotta give people a reason to go to the theater for this, and the T-1000 isn't enough."

Except that John wasn't going to become a bad guy. They just created a terminator version of him to continue leading the rebels and inspire them
The original ending had John Connor killing all the people who "fixed" him

Seems pretty villainous to me

someone already pointed this out, but yeah, how the fuck would Sarah know what 40 year old John Conner looks like!?

There seems to be some shenanigans with forward time travel, see 80s Sarah talking to teenage John at the start of the trailer.

You can also see Old Arnie standing in the background near a truck.

This just gets consistently dumber. First there was the dumb-ass title. Then there was the weak first trailer. Then the pathetic Game of Thrones tie-in. Now this nonsense?

"Hay guyz, John Connor is a weird old guy, also he's a terminatyr now, lolol!"

Like, fuck off.

Here's what's going to happen:

The Connornator will cause the team to have to go back even further in time to fix this mess, and they will, by virtue of that, completely cause this movie to be null and void. So, yeah. That will be a good ending.

Did they include this new twist because of the overall disappointment and reaction to the first two trailers? Why would they give us such a huge spoiler?
