Tesla Cybertruck reveal (OP)

Yep, car designs have been getting way too homologous for years now. If there's one thing I like about the Tesla truck it's the look.
Yeah it's a shame most manufacturers are scared af to try something unique with designs because they want to chase the widest market possible for everything... even more disappointing because sometimes they come up with really cool concepts which later at the retailers look nowhere near as cool. For example I love this EQS concept from Mercedes:

but it's sure as hell when it'll come to release it'll gonna look as generic as it gets.

I have to say, for electric vehible to be released, Honda E imo looks nice. Interior especially is slick as fuck imo:

Mercedes looks decent. But the blue lighting and two colour car trim is odd. The shape and wheels are slick though.

The Honda dashboard with led screens all across is good for functionality, but the dashboard is blocky like Lego and is literally 90 degree angles which isn't sleek either. That wood trim looks like something from a 1979 station wagon.

As for car makers making cool concept cars at car shows, it's weird because 99% of them never seem to make it to real life production. And half of them look stupid anyway. The company spends all this R&D making a one-off car, but then they release the new line up of 2020 cars and it's likely the same shit as 2019 but the engineers tweaked something small. Then the car company does a new wave of models that look different coming in 2023, but still nowhere close to those concept cars. Weird.

I'm all for cars going for crazier designs and I honestly find the design of most new cars boring and too samey (at least the ones you can buy if you aren't rich).

But that thing is ugly as hell. Looks like it was taken out of some PS1 game.

The more I look at the more I lovehate it. It's all late 70s' early 80's supercar ridiculousness. Its a Lotus Espirit on a truck frame. It's pure sex, specifically coked out escort sex.

To be fair, it's nothing like that at all. The Lotus looks like a car, the Tesla looks like a really bad joke.

yea, one of the appeals of the existing Tesla line up (to me, at least) is that they actually look like normal/nice cars. where most of the competitors electric cars look like stillborn spaceships

not sure wtf they were thinking about on this one

I'll be surprised if they meet their goal. Wouldn't be surprised if this car is regulation hell. That's one thing about Elon that's cool, though, he likes to push boundaries and rattle the establishment in different industries.

I wonder how the glass is going to work. Pretty sure u need to be able to break the glass when that thing dives into the water for safety reasons. Seems kinda impossible if they are "bulletproof".

...hate me...
At first I couldn’t believe it, now I think it’s sick. It’s like IDGAF what other cars look like I’m gonna do me. It’s brutal. And the specs and price are amazing.

I loved it... man after seeing that all I did in school was draw those vehicles and design my own underground bases.

My wife hated it aa well. She said it was a "baianão" car... a Brazilian term that means something between Hillbilly and Ghetto. Hard to translate. lol

I felt even more excited with the Cybertruck after she rentlessly insulted it. lol

IDK why but I love blue LEDs. Everything I buy is black and/or silver with blue lights. That car is sex, and I'm not even a car guy.

Looks fugly...

Looks like, for now, I'll be waiting for a high performance version of the Rivian R1T or maybe the next gen Raptor...

I'm not a huge fan of Rivian's front-end design, but it appears the utilitarian features are really well thought out.

Cybertruck looks like it was designed by a team who uses their trucks solely to drive to starbucks for coffee. It's the modern version of the DeLorean, even has the rebel CEO.

The lawsuits over people getting hurt on the sharp corners front and rear will be mildly entertaining.

Well, as I said, I don't mind some of the more "futuristic" and spaceship-like designs. There's 2 or 3 designs from the post right under yours that I actually think look nice (the last 2 in particular)
But this Tesla is ugly. It's too square, too "blocky", too many straight lines, etc. It seriously looks like it was designed for old consoles and they had to keep the polygon count as low as possible.

Not feeling this in the least. Nice try Elon Musk, go back to the designers and have them come up with some higher polygon counts.

I think it looks amazing, like something Syd Mead would create - maybe he worked in it? Retro futurism, I love it. Looks like a car of the future imagined in 1983. I can't stand modern car design, most stuff from the mid 90's onwards has a generic look to it. Golden era of car design was from the 50's to the 70's looks wise.

Watched a couple of vids, I want one.

Looks interesting. My guys in the car business say that BMW and Porche/Audi/VW are about to release electrics that are going to make Tesla’s obsolete.

Was the design a contest from first graders?
Its about the ugliest designed car I’ve ever seen in my life and very amateurish.
Reminds me of this, panned as one of ugliest car/truck ever.

The real question is, will it be the delorean successor in a potential back to the future sequel? I can see it.
We will prolly at least see some modified builds by owners.

If the truck looked more "normal", I doubt people would be talking about it as much as they are.

It's got decent meme potential and stickiness. It's gonna do alright.
