Test Drive: Ferrari Announced

GFWL doesn't bother me and driver issues don't matter if they don't persist.

Only problems that matter are issues they might not be able to patch.

Took the plunge since I'm itching for a good sim.

You have to exit out of the game and restart for graphics changes to take effect and the first challenge keeps crashing.

I'm not amused.

The only Test Drive I have played is Test Drive 5, and it was awesome. But, it will probably stay that way.

Centering a game around one car seems like a bad idea, no?

It's 5x cars, one brand.

And even then, centering around one brand isn't necessarily bad, especially with such a prestigious one. Ferrari Challenge was a great game and it only had Ferrari models.

Guys forget it about any patches lol.

Even if we were in the best possible conditions (a steamwork game for example) for having a patch released Atari would have to approve budget and hire SMS to make the patch.

That's not gonna happen.

Now take that and add the fact that it's a G4WL game which means you need to submit your patch which cost a couple of k$ and then get it approved.

Again, not gonna happen.

I'm surprised that the game is even out. Better than nothing I guess.

Multiple crashes. Can't even turn off what assists I don't want. Menus are garbage. This is a shockingly bad port.

It looks nice, but it's one awful port.

Price is $23 right now on Gamersgate.

Not sure if I'd want to buy it right now on there or see if it'll go lower on Steam during the sale.

Somebody on No Grip opened up the physicsbootflow and this has the same physics as Project Cars? Does it feel the same for those that have played both?

also missing in action are a load of tracks:

there's lines of stuff, different conditions too:

<!-- Wet Road Reflection (Track render target)-->
<view name="wetreflecttrack">
<range value="400.0" />
<lod_scale value="2.0" />
<lod_offset value="20.0" />
<largeObjects enabled="true" lowerLimit="20.0" upperLimit="30.0" scale="0.8" />
</view>
<!-- Wet Road Reflection (Cars render target)-->
<view name="wetreflectcars">
<range value="400.0" />
<lod_scale value="2.0" />
<lod_offset value="20.0" />
<largeObjects enabled="false" />
</view>

maybe Ferrari Legends is the base for the console version of Project Cars and all this stuff will be added.

With all above tracks, pitstops and changeable conditions, FRL would instantly become the second best driving game of this generation, period.

What's the first?

Been lapping Rouen, maybe we could get a cross platform TT going?

Love driving this thing.

Can anyone share their wheel settings on a Fanatech wheel? I'm on a GT3RS:V2. Old cars are great but newer ones i'm all over teh place. I'd like to have as close to 1:1 as possible. 900 steering feels like shit right now.

Amar shows his in-game setup but i don't see his 'wheel' setup up there.

TIA!

Direct quote is 'The coded physics files of TD Ferrari are similar to what is in place for pCARS' and can be found here: http://www.nogripracing.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1660224&postcount=105

To me TD:FRL feels far more like NFS:Shift than pCARS as the handling is quite tail happy but not quite as much as Shift and Unleashed. I refer to the PC version; I've read on the WMD there are handling differences between the PC and console versions.

Gamersgate currently have the direct download version of FRL available for $7.49: http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-TDUFL/test-drive-ferrari-racing-legends

I picked it up in the Gamersgate sale and put an hour or so into it in the time trial mode.

Overall, it's not bad for $7.50. The physics are definitely not 100% sim, but I would not say they are anywhere near Shift's, although it's been a few years since I played that. Cars can break out mid corner if you're not careful and you can and will lose control if you're not careful in the higher powered cars.

It's not my favorite racer and to be honest the FFB on my DFGT isn't really anything to write home about (even with settings similar to amar's). I'm also hoping to find a save file with all the cars unlocked, as that's really why I bought this. I love just taking a car out and driving it. This isn't GT or something where I have to work my way through a career and I'm not a fan of driving games that do that.

I bought this over Christmas and I have to say I am loving it. The AI is amazing (but brutal) and like Shift, it's more akin to driving a car at speed rather than enduring a drab procession around a baked on beautifully rendered track (Forza, GT).

If you're a racing fan and you haven't tried it yet, then you must give it a go.

If pCars is half the game it's expected to be from SMS, it's going to be awesome (going by this game).

Seriously, give it go.

Because of the GRID: Autosport I took out my G25 from the storage and mount it on the cockpit.

It was a great opportunity to revisit FRL - so this is a LTTP within the announcement thread that served as an "OT" for the time being. Meta, basically.

This game is still amazing.

I took from the last saved point in career, Modern Era, F50GT cup, qualifying run at Oschersleben and two later races on Oschersleben and Mugello. Man, everything in this game is great.

Force feedback, AI aggressiveness, sound, even graphics are absolutely manegable. I caught myself thinking about future and decision to revisit this game sometimes when I get old and where will the genre be - and will I still find it so special in the areas where it excels among all other driving games on consoles today - despite being basically a 80% finished product.

This game is a greatest example of the flawed genius.

I am so sad it never managed to take off among the community because I really think it deserves it. The only proper comparison I can draw is one with the Spec Ops: The Line - a game that many simply never decided to grab upon without knowing how much they are missing.
