all four major cities in Texas have multiple retro gaming shop. I just went and checked out one and didn't find anything I liked, so now I'm driving to another one right down the street. I know this is a luxury that most do not have I'm curious to see what the retro gaming community is like in other states.

Tons of them in Denver. Really good ones too. Lots of imports, neo geo, arcade games, and so on. Pretty much anything you could think of.

What are the names of the Texas shops?

Used to be a couple mom and pop stores, but I haven't seen any in years.

There is actually a state wide chain here in texas - game over games. I like the mom and pop store down the street from where I live, player one games.

Prices are pretty fair, too.

I'm Canadian and don't live in a state... so I'm not allowed to tell you that the Vancouver area has quite a few. I can think of 3-4 in the area.

That's what player one is like. Atomiswave carts, cdi consoles, etc.

What annoys me it's they have some great empty boxes they've used as decorations. I've offered good cash for them but the owner never gives in.

What city are you in? Also by 4 I am guessing you are counting Dallas/Fort Worth as one?

San Antonio, Houston, Austin, DFW?

Movie Trading Co is pretty decent place to check out for old stuff. Probably better than most that I have been too.

We have a few in Maryland, but they're mostly all in Western MD or down near DC. The ones I've been to are nice, but the prices are usually way to high to justify buying anything.

yeah I count the Metroplex is one giant city. I've lived in all form listed cities but I'm currently in Houston.

never cared much for a movie trading company, poor selection in my opinion.

Non of them are very good price wise. Very few, in San Antonio, give you good deals be it Flea Markets or Mom & Pop stores. Pawn Shops are the only way to get better deals on older stuff like GameCube and N64 games if and when they pop up..

Very VERY rarely do I find anything for a good price anymore.

Chicago has one called People Play Games and another one in the suburbs called Videogames Then & Now. Both are great shops with lots of vintage games & old systems.

Then there are the general used cd/dvd/game shops, a few of which have good vintage game selections.

I bought a box version of conkers Bad Fur Day from player one game the other day for $49.00. immaculate condition.

Depends on where you go. I have quite a few in my neck of the woods (Albany, NY), along with some comic shops that I havent even checked out.

Louisville has a handful, three by the name of Book & Music Exchange (which might be a national chain? Not sure). They all have a pretty decent selection of Genesis/SNES/NES/PS1 commons, and some of the more rare stuff behind glass and appropriately priced. Occasionally you'll stumble across some Turbo Grafx, Jaguar, and 3DO stuff there. Saturn and Dreamcast games are also rare, for some reason.

Another local place called Toy Crazy has a decent selection of retro stuff, and more Saturn stuff (all common) than anywhere else in the city.

Louisville also has two Half Price Books. National chain, but they get really weird stuff in from time to time.

There are a couple more local game shops but they're only selling used 360/PS3/Wii era games.

For some reason, there are about 15 in the edmonton area. I'm not sure how they all stay in business. That's just in one city and surrounding st Albert and spruce Grove.

I have two near me, not sure how they stay open because very often their prices are above ebay averages. Not worth it for me, it's more fun to hunt for steals at thrift stores.

Yes, so stop hating on Texas. Ofcourse, it's nothing compared to the stores they have in Japan but it's still pretty nice if you are looking for an old game for a fair price usually.

Game over is super over priced and they flip out when you try to take pictures in the store. I'd shop online before shopping there, it's cheaper too.

I never had a problem with taking pictures, but I have only been a few times. I don't have much interest in retro games since I don't own the systems anyways.

Just moved to Texas and should've remembered this from watching Game Chasers, but nope! Thanks for the heads up OP! :O

Edit: Got a gamefellas and a Pinball store in my town. Dunno if either of these are good hhmm..will have to check them out one day.

There is a place in springfield MA aswell that I have been to on Belmont Rd but don't remember the name of the place. It had a ton of retro stuff, like packed in there.

There was another one here called Shakespeare’s Video Works that originally got me hooked on retro games. The store kept relocating, but their selection was pretty good too.

Oh, and there's another one that opened fairly recently in the Danbury Fair Mall. Brian Crecente has tweeted a few times going there.

One opened up in my hometown not too long ago, but their selection isn't that large. It's mostly SNES and N64 games.

eStarland is about 30 minutes away from my parents' house, so that's where I've gone before. They have a great selection.

All these places are pretty overpriced, it's kind of part of the hobby. I've never had a bad experience at Game Over.

There's also supposed to be some place called Gamefellas in Austin, never been.

I've seen a couple over the years in Barton Springs mall but for some reason the classic stores never last very long inside there.

They primarily sell stuff to casuals that only want a n64 and Mario, and don't care if $100 is too much.

I've been to a few in NC and the prices are just too high for me. I can get the same stuff off eBay cheaper and can pick the best condition.

Filthy casuals! Jk, that's a good point.

I live in Ohio, and I've seen plenty of retro game stores. In Columbus I saw a store that had a few unopened Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo consoles for sale. If it weren't for emulation and things like Virtual Console, I would totally jump on that.
