Just out of curiosity -- who cares about this, really? The Japanese have a very different taste than us and a massive bias to domestic games.
Speak for yourself, based on MC sales charts, my taste seems pretty in line with mainstream Japanese tastes. Except for not really getting much into Musou or MH. But it's certainly much more in line with Japanese tastes than mainstream westerner tastes.
Why didn't you list the nominees? Plenty of Japanese games.
Pretty sure the TGS list of nominees doesn't have any Western games because every year this is all Japanese games iirc.
Skyrim was an award of excellence nominee (not that I agree), and the Game Designer's Grand Prize was Journey which is a western game made by a Chinese-American dude IIRC.
