TGS is over...now we reflect....

Where is my Last Guardian!?

And I really thought we would get a release date for MGS: TPP, but overall a good TGS with nice gameplay videos.

The good
-Everything
The bad
-I need to buy a PS4 soon

Being a foreigner attending TGS for the first time, I had a great time and I was able to play some demos and get some free loot with my crap Japanese. The main gripe I had is the lack of people asking cosplayers for pictures, unlike conventions in North America. Everybody took pictures of booth babes though.

Fantastic show this year, looking good.

FFXV looks amazing, Metal Gear looks great, BloodBorne looks awesome and FFType-0 looks way better than expected, Deep Down looking ok. Guilty Gear Xrd keeps rocking.

First trailer Persona 5 trailer after all these years, new Ys, Dragon Quest Heroes Surprise, Disgaea 5...

And then ton of new content in Japanese games in the different production value scales. New trailer of Zestiria, Shinning looking really good (pls Sega), Yakuza Zero looks interesting as well.

Really good, it could have been better of course (it always can go better), there are games and announcement that I missed, similar to some mentioned here (DMC 5, Gravity, etc). But it was really good, looking for lots of stuff here.

The good:

-FFXV trailer + Demo info
-MGSV trailer
-FF Type0 HD trailer
-Bloodborne trailer
-Persona 5 is also coming to PS4

The bad:

-No DMC5
-No MGR2
-No Gravity Rush 2
-No new Sony Japan JRPG
-No Scalebound trailer

Honestly, I thought we were definitely going to see MGR2 at TGS. And DMC5's absence made me worried about DMC's future. :/

If I had to rate the big gaming events this year, it would be Gamescom > TGS > E3.

Including pre-TGS Sony conferenece this year beats past few ones by far. Until August there were very little of Japanese console games (either they weren't announced or we knew very little about them).

I had practically no expectations so I was pleasantly surprised.

And PS4's Japanese line up makes me very happy.

Final Fantasy XV
Kingdom Hearts 3
Bloodborne
Final Fantasy Type-0
Dragon Quest Heroes
Metal Gear Solid 5 The Phantom Pain
Silent Hills
Persona 5
Disgaea 5
Ys

All I need now is for Gran Turismo 7 and The Last Guardian to be announced. Namco to bring Tales of franchise over which I think they said they will and hope and pray for Dragon Quest XI. All that along with Sony's first party and I think I'm pretty much set for the generation in terms of Japanese content. And there will obviously be a lot more after those release.

Overall, awesome.

I can't judge the conferences, didn't watch any, but the output has been awesome TBH:

- MGSV looks awesome. Better than the high expectations I already had.
- Bloodborne looks awesome too, and there's a Beta!
- FFXV looks way more alive than a week ago. There's a demo coming and the gameplay from the trailer was gorgeous.
- Persona 5 is coming to PS4.
- EDF 4.1 going for Pacific Rim.
- There's a new Ys, fuck yeah.
- Dragon Quest Heroes. I love Musou games, love DQ games, so yeah.
- Bladestorm is back, with dragons and shit.

It might all sound pretty random but that's exactly the kind of stuff I expect from TGS.

I'm sure some other things were shown too, but it became the MGS V show very quickly for me. I mean, I don't get hyped for games too often, but this is ridiculous now.

The good:
-FFXV trailer
-FFXV gameplay
-FF Type-0 looking kinda alright
-MGS5 looking very alright
-Bloodborne actually making me consider getting into Souls series
-crossovers crossovers crossovers
-Lots of 3DS/Vita games

The bad:
-Metal Gear Trololo Collection
-Japan only
-Monster Hunters and FTP and Musous OH MY!
-No super secret Sony announcement

The missing
-No Persona 5 footage? seriously? very strange omission
-No Hot Shots footage or news?
-No Gravity Rush 2
-No Tekken 7 trailer
-No everything else
-Capcom playing it very very safe

FF XV looks terrible to me so I can't that in the good. Same for Type 0. So I guess TGS was nothing for me this year. It was a non event really.

Yea that's all well and good, but I personally was much more impressed by the tons of variations in the tgs demo for AC Unity. Really good differences between static and dynamic movement. Although MGS5 does look more realistic.

...I'm not sure what Unity has to do with anything.

I guess it was good. All the games I wanted before the show started, I still want now that the show is over.

Most importantly, I got to ser Bravely Second in action.

I didn't expect to see The Last Guardian, BUT COME THE FUCK ON, where is Gravity Rush 2? I can't believe it's still nowhere to be seen. Somebody needs to repeatedly kick Sony in the balls until they learn that it's never a good idea to show a game too early.

At least Square Enix, of all companies, managed to deliver.

There wasn't a single game I was interested in

I guess Bloodborne is something I'd like but I'm not buying a console for one game

Good:
lots of gameplay...

bad:
...of already announced games
no big announcements
many big games missing

PS4 owners are starving for Japanese games and Bloodborne, FFXV and Type 0 are good so i understand why them think that this TGS was awesome but if looked with neutral eyes then this TGS was mediocre imo.

The bad is that there were no big surprises there. Nice footage of already announced games, but nothing new coming from japan that's interesting. Japan still putting out what they said they were putting out over a year ago, what's being greenlit now and into the future? Mobile games?

Oh dam, I just cant wait for next year and beyond.

DQH isn't interesting? I dunno. I'm interested.

Final Fantasy Type-0
Dragon Quest Heroes
Metal Gear Solid 5 The Phantom Pain
Silent Hills
Persona 5
Disgaea 5
Ys

Don't forget other games already announced

EDF PS4
Dynasty Warriors 8 Empires
One Piece Pirate Warriors 3
Bladestorm
Idolm@aster (only really just started dev)

I'm most hyped for MGSV after the conference. I'm on the fence about FFXV. I think it has a lot of intriguing ideas, but the battles look so clunky. Half the time Noctis is just shuffling around almost in slow motion.

there's not much new stuff to get excited by, maybe other than kojima's take on horror through silent hill. but the big games look really good (mgsv especially) and with the reduction of the number of big budget western games these days, that's all they need to go toe to toe with the west on consoles. basically it was good because the games look good, but it looks better now e3 starts more to resemble tgs last gen in impact.

Ultimate TGS experience, only missing The Last Guardian and Agent!
Really, FFXV and MGSV had fantastic shows, trailers were great, gameplay looks really amazing for both of these games!

Wolfs(Dogs) and cars confirmed!

This was a great TGS though. Maybe irrelevant to western gamers but lots of cool stuff shown that I'll be buying on day one.
Yeah, I'm in that boat too.

I don't believe B games (budgetwise) are irrelevant. If anything, last gen didn't have enough of these. It's nice to know there's still some room for games between indies and AAA.

Im seeing a sickeningly lack of Raiden V talk in here...
You're right, it had completely slipped my mind and that looks awesome. I guess I kind of wrote it off because I don't own an Xbox One yet.
edit: and I kind of did the same with D4. That looks great too.

Much better than e3. TGS showed the games that i will buy and play. I really dont care much for fps/tps games.

-FFXV gameplay -- Must buy
-FF Type-0 - Will buy, not at $60
-MGS5 -- Day 1
-Bloodborne - I am in 100%. This one is going to be the time sink.
-Lots of 3DS/Vita games -- Yay, I am very happy. TGS Wins hands down. This is the final smack down.

This TGS is actually the reason for my PS4 purchase. The western line up has nothing interests me, aside from D3.

+ RER2
+ RE HD remake
+ God Eater Burst
+ Deep Down

Very happy with PS4's JP support.
Only disappointment was no GR2 :(

This is not a "fixed" bullshit, just made that to make my point

It´s not about "the war" in fact, FFXV and Type-0 are multi, MGSV too. The big news of this TGS for Japanese gamers fans, and why some of us are making a big deal of it, it´s a somewhat focus in home console Japanese games that has not be seen in years. And even for already announced games, it was rare to see new stuff at TGS, while this year we had ton of new gameplay and trailers for expected games.

And then there has been quite a lot of content in the middle-ground for consoles and handhelds, which is pretty nice.

So I don't believe it´s about neutrality, it´s about that the TGS this year has offered something we have not seen for a long time.

That is not going to change the opinion of anyone thinking it was a meh event, far from my intention. But I think it explains why the show was exciting for many.

I don't know which games you are talking about that have not been revealed and shown before. I am looking at current gen titles and all I see is Japan continuing to be a sad state of affairs.

Can someone tell what was shown for the PSVita? The bad being "Japan only", is that a reference to games being catered mostly to the Japense audience or no localization? If it's the former, I don't see a problem with it tbh. :\

Good:
Many Japanese games are coming to PS4
Many Chinese version games are coming to PS platforms. Like Yakuza 0

Bad:
Microsoft is still abandoning the Asian Market.
Can you blame Microsoft? They've tried twice and bombed both times. If I was them at this point, I wouldn't spend much money on Japan since it's losing money without future investment to pick up.
