• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

That one game you always go back too.

You're not alone. I randomly play just for fun when I'm feeling the itch to do so. One of the best games of all time.

That one game for me is easily Streets of Rage 2. I've played and beat the game in every way I possibly can and it's still a blast to play. Says a lot about the game I think. One day this will be replaced by SoR Remake I just know it.

The "one" game you always go back to, but the OP chooses two?! Inconceivable!

Anyway, Streets of Rage 2 is my answer. (Or it was until Streets of Rage Remake took its place.) There are lots of games I revisit when the mood strikes me, but none as regularly as SoR2. It is the perfect beat-em-up.

Stay the hell out of my head.

Team Fortress has its ups and downs; after a few weeks of playing it quite religiously with friends, interest dies down for a month or so and after that we pick it up again.

Once in a while I will just put a few hours in Super Metroid because it is the best game ever. Just typing up this post instantly put Red Soil Brinstar music in my head and I want to go straight to my SNES. Best purchase I ever made.

You sir, have amazing taste in video games. I salute you.

UFO: Enemy Unknown
Jagged Alliance 2
Mount & Blade
Space Rangers 2.

These are games that never get old, for me.
I can play them to a saturation level, then if I wait some month, at some point I will feel the desire to lay them again.

Who's up for a 30 minute last man standing match?

Still the best wrestling game of all time with infinite replay value.

Forget about gameplay,

Any wrestling game that has: THe rock, Stone cold, Undertaker, Brock Lesnar, Goldberg, NWO (hogan Hall nash), Shawn micheals, Rick Flair, HHH, Kane,,,,, is an automatic best wrestling game of all time,,,, I mean look at the roster, makes you sad about the rosters of the latest wwe games,,, and the gameplay was goodddddd

Not one but several...

Sega Rally (Saturn / Model3 Emu)
Still my favourite implementation of vehicle dynamics. It just feels right. Getting used to the car handling after taking a break from the game is always fun and rewarding.

Green Beret (DS)
I always have one old game that I'm trying to beat without cheating or using continues. This is that game at the "moment". Well I say moment I really mean years. It's fun to come back to like an old friend. You've both changed alot of the years but you know exactly who you're dealing with.

Super Mario Bros (NES)
Still fun after all these years and lends itself to quick plays rather than a mammoth session.

Resident Evil 4 (GameCube / Wii)
Perfect pacing with just the right amount of back tracking so it doesn't get tedious. A rare feat for an open world game. Whenever you finish it, it's always tempting to start another play through immediately.

Any of the F-Zero and Wipeout games.

Panel de Pon (2-player; so much fun)

FF8 or 12.

Valkyria Chronicles (just a few battles at a time; I have a ton of unfinished ones from VC2 and 3)

Bayonetta, maybe its a craving to do a combo or just beat a bunch of chapters ao i eventually get soi fong. Really godlike game.

TMNT4 - Turtles in Time, Ocarina of Time and Baldurs' Gate II - Shadows of Amn are my go to games. The first one I finish in one sitting, the second takes roughly a week or I stop midway through and the last one I start up several times and then get overwhelmed by although I've completed it once :)

I can't replay old games consistently especially RPGS, even in ones with multiple ending because I probably did it already.

The only games I often go back to is stuff like Streets of Rage 2, and Final Fantasy tactics, just to make a Legion of Samurai, or a brigade of Archers.

the only way to fly

I missed out on chrono trigger when it came out, my first experience with it was from the giantbomb quick look. (I know I know) But I finally played it, fun game :0 But unforently I don't have any nostalgia ties to it. FF6 being my favorite SNES RPG of choice.

The Pokémon games on my DS

Edit: Hey, have I transcended my Junior status, or is the NeoGAF app playing tricks on me?

Anything Tetris related. I can always play tetris.

And I'll go back to most Mario games from time to time. And NES games... actually I don't really have a good answer because I collect games to play them, so especially retro games I'll go back to and play them when I feel like it. But Tetris is special.

@Ciastek3214: You must love the fact that Rayman 2 is ported to every god damned platform in existance then. :P

Feels like work. You don't really want to but you still go there everyday.. I mean every hour.

I had to delete this game. I thought it would have strategy and an interesting economic model, but there's no gameplay, it's just doing chores. Still, it hits the addiction switch just right, and I love the visuals and music just as much as I hate the actual game. Do yourself a a favor, delete it, and forget you ever had it.

Gears 1, but I recently deleted this from my hard drive after Gears 3 dropped. Games that I currently play and will continue playing & reinstalling on newer OSes until they stop working are...

Halo 2 pc

Rainbow Six Vegas 2

Team Fortress 2

...still have these on my hard drive and gets a spin once or twice a week. I play TF2 the most, though.

I doubt one month has passed since its release when I didn't boot it up at least once, it really is the pinnacle of old school FPS design.

New Games
Dark Souls/Demons Souls- I have played through them at least 6 times and they will be in rotation for years. Surprised no one has mentioned them yet
Vanquish- Im learning new ways to kill things every time I play it. Too bad we wont see a sequel.
Bayonetta- Still my favorite game this generation.

Older Games
Diablo 2- Im scared to think of the hours I have put into D2
Final Fantasy Tactics
Baldurs Gate 2
Titans Quest
X-Com, Terror from the Deep and UFO Enemy Unknown

What?? Don't tell me you dont like the miz, funkasaurus, alberto del rio and jack swagger? Whats next, you're going to try and tell me santino is not the coolest wrestler of all time and women who keep farting isn't the funniest thing you've ever seen.

Seriously though, I agree. Current wwe roster is appalling. There is literally no talent there at all (or at least, they're not being utilised properly). Look at the tag teams. The unrelenting push Cena is getting. Kanes stupid angles. The 'great' Khali. Everythings awful.

Sensible World of Soccer '96/'97
Tetris (Game Boy)
FIFA 98 RTWC
Killer Instinct 1 & 2
Jet Moto (Rider)
Road Rash Jailbreak
etc...

It's like the perfect pick up and play baseball game ever. I can't get enough of the fat baseball players, the bad outfield controls, and the catchy music from hell.

Since 1994 I've played Secret of Mana every 3 years or so (on average). Beat it multiple times single player mode, but especially with friends.

Whenever my friend is visiting me, we play Mario Kart: Double Dash!! and Super Smash Bros Melee, so they too are visited every year multiple times.

zero, I never replay games

i did replay Fallout 3 three times, though, because i thought I missed some landmark

That's pretty much how I am, aside from as I said OoT, I don't go back to a game I've completed anymore, once I beat it there is just a feeling of finality.

I tend to replay YI once a year. Why? Because in my opinion this game is the definition of FUN. I haven't played a better game in my life and I don't think I will ever do.
