That Tom Cruise Missile never disappoints

It's weird, he's stayed ageless for so long, but in the most recent MI6(?) 7(?) trailer, he seems to have aged 10 years. His face is just really puffy. Hope everything is alright health wise. :/

yeah no doubt. he peaked in the early 00s though. now he's just in franchise fare after franchise fare.

but yeah his 90s-00s run was god-tier.

the tom cruise today would NEVER sign up for something like vanilla sky for example.

His recent movies are dope though. He's perfect for the big budget CGI futuristic action thriller of today.

He is one of the greatest old Hollywood world actors ever. He's his own paradigm. That crazy mother fucker always puts in 100% and it always pays off.

Maybe there is something to this Scientology thing after all.

Cruise is the only actor where I can't separate the art from the artist. He's a complete psychopath who lately has done nothing but masturbatory roles to tell himself how awesome he is.

Fuck him.

He was supposed to be Iron Man, FYI. He was actually attached at one point.

Thank fucking god. I would not have watched any Iron Man or Avengers movies if he had been in them.

all his movies now are generic as hell compared to the stuff he was putting out years ago. oblivion and jack reacher are like a hard 6/10.

plus look at the directors he works with now compared to who he was working with earlier. post-spielberg he's just had a run of mediocrity.

Jack Reacher is awesome.

WATCH JACK REACHER PEOPLE

There's something about him that's just enjoyable to watch. Maybe it's the body language and mannerisms. I really liked him in War of the Worlds too, even though it wasn't necessarily a memorable role.

How are you gonna leave out Magnolia? It has his best performance.

It's next on the list man.

Yes, pull out the deep cuts:

Magnolia
Born on the 4th of July
A Few Good Men
Taps
The Firm
Legend

It's crazy you started this thread, I had been thinking recently how I have literally grown up with Tom Cruise. I saw Taps in the theaters as a kid, and damn near almost every of his films after that. It's been crazy to see his career arc; he's gonna be like the James Stewart of my generation, in that my kids will know who he is, but not how huge he was, and will get sick of Dad getting all nostalgic talking about his movies.

He needs to play villains more often. He was great in Collateral.

He was so natural in it too. It's strange, you simultaneously can't forget he's Tom Cruise but you also completely believe he's (whatever character he's playing), in this case, a hitman.

Not many superstars can pull of this feat.

That HBO Scientology documentary has me looking at Cruise more sideways than ever, but I can't deny his presence in movies.

I haven't really loved him in a starring role since Collateral though. He was also great in Tropic Thunder, but he's been choosing really safe stuff since then (not that he ever sleepwalks through a role)

I've been on a Tom Cruise spree lately:
Minority Report
Collateral
Vanilla Sky
Eyes Wide Shut

Tom Cruise in all these movies:

I am willing to overlook the crazy because this man is so consistently great I don't care. I wish he'd go back to more vulnerable roles like the last 3 films listed but it's cool, you do you Tom. There was a time where I thought he was tied with Will Smith in the most consistent/never disappointing category, but not any more. Tom Cruise is #1.

And then you saw....Knight and Day.

I haven't been let down by Cruise movie yet and I'm glad he has stuck to action and Scifi films. Thanks Scientology.

The Last Samurai, dude should have gotten an oscar for that movie, IMO is the best performance he has given of all the movies he's been part off

And then you saw....Knight and Day.

I love Knight and Day, harmless fun and not-so-serious entertainment that never insults. Cruise Missile and Cameron Diaz have great chemistry, and it made me appreciate Vanilla Sky even more, seeing them together again but way different.

I don't get why people say he is crazy.

He jumped on a couch? That's it? Really? Who gives a shit.

He's a Scientologist? Guess what it's equally as crazy as Christianity or any other religion.

never liked him. He just annoys me, his movies are mostly mediocre

don't care if he's a Scientologist, people are free to do whatever dumbfuck things with their time, as long as it's not illegal

It's not just that he is a member/believer of a crazy religion, it's that he supports an organization at high levels that is into some seriously immoral shit as well as himself personally taking part in some of it. Watch the recent HBO documentary "Going Clear" about scientology to hear more about the specific things he's done that are pretty terrible. I really like him as an actor but I do struggle sometimes with supporting him given some of the things he's done and continues to do. Him believing crazy nonsense is one thing, but it's another when it translates into affecting the lives of the people around him.

As an aside, I really don't get all the praise for his work in Tropic Thunder. There was no way for me not to recognize his voice and face so I knew right away it was Tom Cruise. And second, it's just him in a fat suit acting over the top, yelling and being vulgar, and dancing. It's cool and funny that he did the bit part but it gets thrown out a lot how brilliant he was in it and I struggle to see how it was little more than "come see this serious actor ham it up in a fat suit."

gotta give him my props... i thought his career would be on life support at this point (after the mid-2000s, when people started catching onto his personal life's... eccentricities) but he's still going strong.

can't really name a bad movie he's done recently, though i haven't seen jack reacher yet. Oblivion could've been great but they were obviously trying to shoehorn it into PG-13 (ex: the part where his "wife" or whatever gets incenerated)

Check out Jack Reacher -- it's underrated and Rosamund Pike looks hot as hell in it. Edge of Tomorrow was one of the best films released last year.. Cruise is definitely one of my favorites.

Great actor, but I've never been able to look at him the same way after Couchgate and the Katie Holmes debacle. Fuck Scientology.

I've always enjoyed his films :). People give him shit because he's a little crazy off camera. But you can't deny his talent on screen. His characters are just so much fun to watch!

What happened with the couch thing?

I swear I'm missing something. Never understood why it was a big deal... though I suppose I've never really bothered to look up what exactly happened.

As others have said, watch the doc/read the book 'Going Clear'.
Then come back & tell us if you feel the same way. Twisted, immoral shit under the guise of a 'spiritual' religion- and Tom is a significant figure for the organization. At least Christianity does some good around the world. Scientology is a legitimate scam.

Eyes Wide Shut is one of the most criminally underrated movies ever. Because of the director, expectations were so high I think many overlooked the brilliance. I don't know if I have ever experienced a film that made me feel so claustrophobic in my life. Repeat viewings also show how amazing Tom's performance was in that film.

Cruise is the best on screen Lestat so far.

Interview with the Vampire is such a great film too. Probably his best performance, imo.

I wish Neil Jordan had a chance to make more films in the Vampire Chronicles. His IwtV was about a decade or two ahead of its time. Now there would likely be multiple film deals, etc.

I don't own many blu-rays. I own Eyes Wide Shut. It's a fantastic movie in many regards, and Cruise's performance is one of them. As is naked Nicole Kidman.
