The 100 (TV show) - Does it get better?

It does get better, but it is also quite overrated. There are still a lot of problems with character development. I think partly because it has such a large cast now so it becomes difficult to manage. Plus they never really figured out how to integrate the political intrigues on the Ark with the conflicts on Earth when they finally brought them all together. It's entertaining for sure, but after the fighting is over, the show doesn't really have much going on for it, so it's likely they will drag on the war for as long as they can.

Not to derail the thread but have been debating between this and TWD for my next binge show. Any thoughts as to which way I should lean? Note I don't mind CW cheesiness to much, I'm catching up with Arrow and I've enjoyed it so far.

Season 1 is as far as I'd go with TWD. I found season 2 and beyond insufferable.

S1 turns surprisingly good past the first halve.

S2 is one of the most enjoyable things right now on TV. One of the most brutal, too.

It also gave us the most METAL AS FUCK moment of the past TV season:
mutant war horse of death.

I actually stopped watching it by Ep. 3 since they all sounded like insufferable pricks, but glad to hear that it got better.

I like sci-fi and watched the first episode but turned it off after 15 minutes cause it seemed dumb and the teenagers were dumb and everything was dumb.

If you can suffer some silliness and teenager drama, The 100 is a decent enough show. I'll catch up to Season 2 when the second half's done.

Raven <3

When you finish with both seasons, so much will happen and so much things will change that you will most likely not be able to remember what happened at start. As someone who has not watched pilot since it aired, I can't think anything else than WHO THE FUCK ARE THESE PEOPLE in these images? :D

Show goes through incredible transformation, even just from the start to the end of S1. S2 then goes to totally another level beyond that [and as a bonus, S2 has truly kickass opening title sequence]

S1 got Emmy nomination for best visual effects. I wonder if S2 will snatch any nom.
I think there was like a 1 year gap between the pilot and the rest of season 1 being shot, if I'm not mistaken?

I seem to have a similar memory. It could explain some things, but the show still experienced some insane progression in terms of plot and aesthetics through the whole first season.

The transformation of Bellamy and Raven in particular is like WTF

I mean, look at those Pantene scrubbed fuckers.

Even the second season's title sequence is baller as hell. S2 is just steadily amazeballs in comparison to S1.

This show is great, It gets so good after the first couple episodes. Trust me, if you drop it you are doing yourself a disservice.

Season 2's opening sequence is great! it gets me pumped every time i see it.

Yeah, it gets better. Like ten fold better. I had the exact same feelings towards it during the initial episode. I watched the premiere, didn't really grab me and I dropped it during the second episode...until it popped up on Netflix. I ended up binge watching the rest of the first season in a few days. And I watched the majority of Season 2 as it aired. It has become one of those shows that I make sure not to miss it weekly.

I am so happy we are getting a 3rd Season.

And yes, the songs they pick for specific scenes do get a lot better. Season 2 finale had me tearing up man.

Holy shit, that picture really hits hard how much they change. Completely different characters.

Wow, those early first season pictures, who are you!

I remember cringing at Octavia going for a swim while admiring her arse and hoping they all died for being party idiots.

I don't watch the 100 but as someone who has watched all seasons of TWD so far, currently TWD is at the best it's ever been, however it does go through painfully slow moments at times.

The good thing about the TWD though is that it's seasons are short compared to most shows. Season 1 is only 6 episodes and season 2 is 13. Seasons 3,4 & 5 are 16. So it doesn't take that long to catch up if you start watching.

Its like CW wanted to force the writers to become another run of the mill show that it could have been and then by episode 4-6 they said "enough" and went guns blazing.

Seriously the massive shift in themes and personalities felt both jarring and natural (if anything their original tone felt really out of place).

I also love how pretty much anyone worth a damn is a woman. They even have a woman of color whose a no holds back, takes shit from no one kind of gal and almost every major important player is a female.

Very refreshing show. I'm catching up on the second half of season 2 right now. holy fucking hell.

This thread inspired me to give this show a shot which is perfect timing in a sense as I have two complete seasons to enjoy and binge watch and Christ you're all right. I'm about midway through season 1 so far and it's rapidly and considerably improving and getting better. Everything from the pace of the plot to the music cues to the visuals to the emotional moments; everything is just dramatically becoming amazing and it feels like the show is evolving for the better in front of my eyes.

TBH after reading some of the impressions on here I was bracing myself for the worst with the first three or so episodes but I actually thought whilst the show was nothing amazing to begin with the initial run of episodes were pretty good. I love science fiction though and generally warm to shows like this so I guess I'm biased. It's becoming a hell of a lot better now though midway in to season 1 and reading the impressions on here I'm excited to watch the rest now and eventually move on to season 2.

Great show so far though. A perfect Lost replacement as I've been missing that show for years.

I just watched the first 3-4 episodes as well and was not impressed. This thread has convinced me to keep watching.

I dunno, I feel like by 1x05 the show is pretty clear in what it wants to do. That's kinda where I feel most people either keep going or step off. By the end of that episode you know they aren't going to pussyfoot around.

Ok, so I'm on episode 7 of the first season, and I'll answer myself here. Yes, it gets a whole lot better. People keep praising the life out of season 2, so I'm hoping that lives up as well. But for now, it definitely is getting into its own. Liking it a lot.

Some nitpicks though.

Show could have been called
The 10 (at best)

Getting annoyed with the time dedicated to the
love triangle
. Shit is hard to sit through.

Also, on a related note, why do I get the feeling that
There was no nuclear annihilation, and that it was a huge cover-up of sorts?
It has to be a plot device at some point, right?

Anyway, moving on. Hoping for the good shit to continue.

I only watched the first two episodes and quit as I couldn't stand the characters, but I guess it really does get better? Might have to continue watching then.

TO give me an idea, how does it compare to something like terranova? As that i found to be abysmal shit.

Also, Arrow is pretty dumb, but fun schlock, so if it's on par with that, it could be fun i guess.

Having just binge watched the two seasons in about 3 days, the show is really great

It's much better. This show moves fast, people evolve, mysteries are introduced and solved [usually in spectacularly violent ways], and main characters are pushed over the edge several times over. Also, almost all important characters are females and all are represented in a extremely good way.

It feels to me like they pulled complete bait and switch, pitched it as teen angst love drama to network execs with the pilot, then switched to harcore scifi without anyone on the network noticing.

That said, there is still some teenage love drama and whatnot, but it is better, more earned, without cornyass music..and when these people have been through the shit they have been through, I can excuse that.

That seems to be the trend for creators with CW shows nowadays.

It's better than Arrow and definitely better than Terra Nova (what little I saw of that).

The best thing about the show is that it does surprise you. When you think the usual trope is about to happen, the opposite happens.

Major season 2 finale spoiler:
Clarke pulling lever was something I never expected to see, I thought there'd be some last minute miracle or peace treaty

I relentlessly gave shit to Terra Nova at the official OT and I still find really hard not to spit whenever somebody speaks its name.

I absolutely adore The 100.

Take that as you will.

The 100 is far better than Terra Nova, that shit was awful.

The 100 is also the most female driven show currently on TV barring some soaps not worth mentioning.

All the girls there are a bunch of resourceful hardasses. The main protagonist in particular is not afraid of taking shit into her own hands and murk whoever needs to be murked when grown ass men won't abide, to the point of committing S2 spoilers
MASS MURDER and quite probably a good number of assorted war crimes
before surrendering her friends.

At this rate they should change her name to Khaleesi Everdeen Rambo of the Sky People by the time S3 ends.

Yea, Clarke is one the best protagonists in a long time

And yall thought I was crazy. I am not a false prophet

Somehow, I descended further into madness and decided to start watching this based on the continued praise from GAF and a few other places. :/

Pray for me. :/

I watched the pilot last night and enjoyed it despite the fact that a lot of the acting/writing is awfully cringey (as per usual for The CW). I like the premise though and I'm hopeful that it really will get better (unlike those other CW shows that "get so much better!!!" but really didn't).

Some of it was really fucking dumb -
They land on (what they think is) a highly irradiated planet with no supplies and no way to survive, and yet the first thing they do is refuse to go after said supplies and instead decide to throw a bonfire party while screaming things like "We can do whatever we want now!" (oh yeah and WELCOME TO THE NEW AGE RADIOACTIVE RADIOACTIVE is blaring all the while). I mean. :/

But the
giant water snake
was cool and I liked the ending where
the lame ass Digimon protagonist wannabe got impaled with a spike.
Hopefully that's indicative of what the rest of the series will be like going forward.

I wonder how much more new watchers we could attract here if we started posting the pictures from S2. :D Story and characters are so incredibly different from pilot.

But lets not do that, it's better to experience the show without spoilers.

Just watch, and report your impressions when you finish S1. :)

I think it's terrible.

Finished watching season 2 this week. The characters, acting and writing are all terrible. The show is filled with awful cliche's and stupid moments that make no sense.

Can't believe they renewed this shit for a third season LMAO

Just keep watching Ratsky, just keep watching.

You devoted 30 hours to something you think is that terrible? Why?

Quality rarely has anything to do with renewals.
