Can you deny his reasoning though? I have seen that exact same behavior where people just buy a new one even despite the fact their current phone s working perfectly fine just because its new, obviously this doesn't only apply to apple product but their consumers seem more fanatical than most.

I guess its up to mindset though I haven't bought a new phone since 2012 and I am only going to buy one this year because my old phone power switch got fucked and its on it last legs.

I must be crazy but I think smartphones are a hell of a deal, even as they approach the 1k mark. There's no other device I use as much or get as much enjoyment out of than my smartphone.
 
Isn't this just a rumor? Is this source pretty reliable? People seem to be getting rather worked over something that isn't even confirmed and only seems to be coming from a single source.

People buy things for all kinds of reasons, and just because those reasons aren't the same as yours doesn't mean they're stupid or that you're better than they are. I would never use the same phone for 5 years like you have but that's your own personal choice. If someone buys a new phone and spend their own money because they like the way the new one looks or will hand their old one down to someone else or simply like opening new electronics yearly what difference does it make? Those people aren't simply dumb or misinformed or giant idiots just because they buy things for different reasons.
 
OLED screen would definitely make me consider it.

People like new shit. I know folks who preorder Ubisoft games still to this day but I ain't going to pretend I got a leg up on them cause of that.

I certainly know I won't need an iPhone 8, my 7 is chugging along fine and is the best phone I've ever owned, but I'm going to get an 8 cause that's what I do. I went through 6 Android phones in 3 years cause I like having the newest shit to play around with and I have the money.

It's cute that you got mad over this, but you know I'm right. I didn't say ALL people who buy new iphones are idiots... But in my experience, most of them are clueless as to what the new phone even offers. I can guarantee it's like that with a large portion of people who buy them as well.

Can't say that for the average gaffer though. Normally the news will highlight the new phone and its features so I'm not sure your statement is entirely accurate but at the same time, people are stupid.

The people who buy a thing you don't like or for reasons you don't agree with are most likely dumb. That's nothing but insecurity.

Why can't you just accept that people like different things for different reasons, and that's perfectly ok?

Price is whatever, I only facepalm when people earning minimum wage or not much above complain about other thing's price and cost of living while using such pricey phone...

You seem to be able to guarantee a lot of things based on some assumptions about your small inner circle of friends.
 
Current phones get the job done so well. I really think they need to keep a basic cost-effective design for those of us who don't care about the frills of an OLED screen and super-amazing camera.

I'm guessing I should start investing in Apple after a dip, because even though we all trash it, this is gonna sell gang busters and at an even more ridiculous price.
I got on the iPhone Upgrade Program this year knowing this would be a major refresh year so I'm all about it.

FWIW, the first retina MacBook Pro cost about the same as this new model does in its first year. It fell a year after its introduction.

Only the years prior base and S model. iirc, prior to releasing the 7, they discontinued the 5S (though it's still supported, so you could buy it used if you want to take that chance). Even then, the prices don't significantly drop. I bought my 6 post 6S release and it wasn't discounted by much or at all, iirc.

Dunno if that's a Canada only thing, though.

please give an accurate description of your phone owning history. if you've saved money having this attitude I'll be surprised. But not that surprised, there is always outliers in any system.
 
I mean I wouldn't be surprised considering they are rumored to have like four iPhone this year? (7S, 7S+, SE Refresh and said OLED phone)
Good range with pricing flexibility. I'm ready to get the OLED model though, I've been putting some money in the "new iPhone" jar for the past two years and the new model has a good chance of being a mind blowing upgrade to my 5S.

It's just a phone we don't need to be this attached to it where people are spending thousands on something with minimal upgrades every damn year. I wont replace my phone until it breaks and when it does I may go find a cheap dumb phone or another Windows phone. Its just not this serious.

Millions of cheaper phones are sold every year as well. People buy what they want or need. Big deal.
