Not surprising, Samsung S6 Edge cost almost $1000 when it first came out and iOS people were laughing because they charging Apple prices for curve glass ...now APPLE might do the same

If they were laughing because Samsung was charging, as you say, "Apple prices", why would they have a problem with Apple doing it themselves?

How is the "no physical power button" thing going to work? Always-on phone as long as there is battery power? And if you run out of power and recharge it, phone automatically turns on again? Turn on by voice command (always listening mic)? Turn on if pressure on touch screen?
My Xperia Z3 can be activated through a double tap on the screen. It has a physical power button obviously, but it could go unused with the right software change.

Why are people assuming Apple's just jumping to the iPhone 8 instead of the 7S? Did I miss something here?
With Apple likely planning to position the new OLED iPhone as a high-end premium device with a premium price tag, the company is also rumored to be planning to introduce two more affordable devices with LCD displays that are closer in design to the existing iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, measuring in at 4.7 and 5.5-inches.
.

No headphone jack, still no sale :(

Don't know what I will go to when my 6 breaks down.

I really hope their more affordable models are smaller and more 'historic' to appeal to fans of the phones before they got bigger/ lost the headphone jack

It would make sense to have a line which is their forward thinking - expensive - new tech line and a line that's less risky/ expensive

Awww yeah bring it on! I'm upgrading from my 6 this year!!

1) 10th Anniversary, Apple rumored to want to make this a mile stone phone
2) iPhone 7 feels like an iPhone 6S-S upgrade. Usually the #'d iPhones have some new hardware, but because they went with the same design here, it bought them time to work on their next major redesign. In this case as someone already quoted:

What contract you on? I'm only on 8GB for the same price but I wanted a Vodafone contract for better signal at my house and roaming data for Europe.

Well shit.
Just went to grab the details for the plan I'm on and the price has gone up hugely!

I've been using it for a few years (since the 5S) so I guess £15 is the price point I'm locked in at, which is pretty cool of them.
It can be used abroad 'at 42 locations' too and worked very well last time I went away... I've no complaints but don't know if I'd recommend it at that price -_-

Good for them.
100%+ margins on the most popular phones on the market plus 30% on any sale on their walled garden has been the coup of the century.
Not that they've seen a cent from me outside of the odd itunes album or single.

100% margins on new iPhones absolutely cannot be true

I'm a bit interested in the OLED screen. Still using my S6 edge but I'll keep my eyes on iPhone, the next galaxy and maybe an xperia.

Any mock ups of how it will look? Interested in what they do with the design
This is the one that frequently gets used:

Because of rumours that the mic, home button/TouchID, and chin/bezels will all be replaced by a curved screen that bends around the corners.

I know most people have monthly payments on flagships, but when you spell it out like that, it sounds pretty damn expensive. I'll stick with the 6s, cause I need that headphone jack.

I'm done with premium phones, but I'll have to convince my gf that the price is not worth it.

She can have an iPhone if she wants, you know.

Excited for this! I passed on upgrading to 7 because I heard 8 was around the corner. As long as they offer a plus sized one, I am all in.

I'm buying it. Pretty sure $1000 or so will be for the top model only. I paid about $850 total for my iphone 6 plus 64gb. Going to give it to my daughter once the 7S comes out.

I dont mind the cost. The phone is a heavily used device now. Browsing, shopping, communication, entertainment, camera, convenience all in one. It's an ultimate portable computer, so the price is justified for me.

Interested to see the lower end models introduced. Will likely stick with Android though, especially with the growing sub $500 flagship specced phone market. But man, it apple ever makes a phone under $500 with a 5.2"+ screen, I'll be on board to give it a try.

$1k+ lol. The phone for rich people.

You definitely don't have to be rich to spend $1000 on electronics.

Phones are the new personal computer people do pretty much everything on them.

I don't think the price tag is a huge deal, for a lot of folks a phone is their main or possibly only big frivolous purchase.

That said use of power is pretty diminishing on a phone, IMO. Even really cheap shit does everything perfectly smoothly nowadays. There aren't a lot of high end apps and jobs to really stress this stuff.

Still, if you like Apple and you like the status element of it, it is what it is. I personally don't think their phones are that wildly overpriced for what you get, I just don't think all that hardware really gets used.

Phone contracts are simply a fact of life for the majority of people here. Like paying taxes.

The price hike of the new iPhone won't really make that much of a difference in your monthly payments either way. It's the price you got to pay to get the latest tech.

Hell, I moved from a 64GB iPhone 6S+ to a 256GB iPhone 7+ because the difference per month was only like $5

Some days I ask myself why I spent so much on my 6s but then I realize that I use the damn thing so much that the cost to use ratio is really good.

Lets say you at minimum have the phone for 2 years. That's 730 days. A base iPhone 7 is $649. So about a dollar a day for something that's with me like 99% of my life.

That being said, it's still a lot of money and my 6s is still going strong and I hate the lack of headphone jack so Apple better wow the fuck out of me next time

How do you spend that much on a phone? My phone cost $130. I could buy my phone eight times for that much money.

I don't even know why people are bringing the Switch into this discussion. One is a shittyass underpowered gaming console that people will be embarrassed to use in public as intended. The other is a high-end lifestyle device that people use on a daily basis and is considered a status symbol in poorer countries.

I wouldn't mind paying more than $1000 for the new iPhone if it looks as good as what the article is saying. My iPhone 6 Plus is the best phone I have ever used and is going strong after 26 months of use. I intend to get 3-4 years out of this thing before upgrading to a new one.

Contrast this to the Samsung S3 I had before the current phone. It was easily the worst phone I had ever used and the battery was absolutely pathetic right out of the box and even worse after just one year of usage despite being very judicious at managing my apps' battery consumption. I couldn't wait to change the damn thing once my contract was up.

I don't want to buy one but I'm probably going to buy one and justify it because "I need it to do my job"

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Next year's gonna see a process node shrink for the A series chips, IIRC, so I wonder if we'll see some battery life improvements with this. Heat dissipation's still gonna be a bitch.
