The 33 Whitest Jobs in America!

For jobs that require college, the largest demographic that graduates with a degree is White females. In the not too distant past, it was white males so that should explain why a lot of the skilled, or educated jobs are white.

Honestly? Kind of surprised that Chief Executives are only 90% white. Was kind of expecting that to be at the top.

I'm guessing one of the blackest jobs in America or NYC atleast is the Black Bouncer (who are hired due to subconscious racist stereotypes). I go to certain places and see either white or fresh off the boat immigrants with jobs aplenty while there are thousands of unemployed black and brown faces a train ride away hoping to find work. But when it comes to bouncing, all of a sudden there's a 85+% black hire rate, doesn't matter if they are fit or not.

Environmental Scientists

Definitely true. I'm going to major in Environmental Science and I think there was one black guy in a class of 35-40. And this is in New York, so that's pretty crazy.

What's the point here? I actually don't understand why anyone would make such a survey/statistic.

Understanding broad social trends allow us to make informed statements about society. Once you establish the facts, understanding why things are the way they are becomes a bit easier. We frequently get studies like this trying to understand why women aren't in computer science, for example.

Does this mean that you will get easier time to actually get a job in those fields if you are black or is it the other way around?

I am currently studying Architecture so...

I'm more puzzled you'd ask this question. Monitoring demographic shifts and mapping economic realities plays a major part in checking where we're heading and should be used to review current policy and steer the future. I'm sure some research doesn't have many application, but a racial layout of employment is definitely relevant.

Let's step back from race for a moment. Wouldn't you be interested to know if there were jobs with a higher prevalence of women or people below the age of 35?

Surprised acting isn't up there

From SAG's last survey on the matter in 2008, whites made up 72.5% of television and film roles. In the 2007, 29.3% of people getting roles weren't white, which was the highest they recorded. I can't find any data for stage actors, as Actor's Equity doesn't publish these types of surveys, but both of the major actors' unions do what they can to promote and reward diversity in casting.

But those are just numbers. That wasn't to say that there aren't issues with perception by the people that make casting decisions, or that there aren't issues with the way people of color are represented, especially in the major, broader media.

Myself being a black soon to be dentist, I'm surprised dentistry isn't on the list. Very good for the profession though, dentistry is becoming more and more diverse

why do every studies always tend to not include Asians? Are we not part of the minority?

da fuck
No you aren't, Asians for example are now currently a majority in the health professions. For example I am black, but I am Nigerian. I large number of the blacks in the health professions are Africans, I'm just waiting for the day when they start saying Africans are no longer a minority in the health professions lol

asians are still a minority in the populace. plus, i dont think asians are a majority in the health profession. if it is, that list in the OP would be less for physicians

Do you see, physician, dentist, pharmacist, or optometrist on that list. That's because those professions aren't 90 percent white anymore...The way it works is like this... The US attempts to increase access to care for the different minority groups by pushing those minorities to go into the professions. The thought right now, or at least statistically (what they tell us here) is that Asians are no longer a minority in professional schools because there are plenty of Asian doctors giving care to Asian communities. Not many black dentists really :/

Wouldn't that be 50%?

Ugh people need to stop pointing this out. Yes his mother was white.

Ethnic and racial identity is something that is tied to self-identity and is confirmed and experienced through the way society reflexively defines you.

So by that, Obama is black, though this isn't a mutual exclusive identity. 1 out of 1 US presidents right now are indeed black.

I wonder if the correlation in these jobs is stronger between race or class/childhood income. I can't imagine there are too many poor kids of any colour going to Vet school.

You dont have to be rich/wealthy to go to one. My cousin (his fam is not even middle class) is going to the army so he can be able to become a vet. Anyone can do that, all it takes is initiative/willingness and effort.

And a pair of bootstraps, AMIRITE.

Interesting list.

Painter/carpenter/electrician I just have a hard time believing.

Autobody repair I don't buy at all.
