The 3DS XL isn't portable

Being an owner of both a 3DS XL and a Vita slim.....I have to disagree. If one is portable the other has to be, and I definitely don't think the 3DS is heavier. I've never heard anyone say that before.

Of course the New 3DS XL is portable.

Those aren't remotely the kinds of pants I wear and I can fit it in my pocket with my phone just fine. :P

All those factors are why it isn't portable for me.

Yea, which is why you're opening post probably could've been articulated better...considering we've gone a full page now. I get where you're coming from though, I actually get hand cramps from holding it for extended periods. I can't really comment on it vs. the Vita

Then you shouldn't have purchased the XL model...? I don't understand the problem here. You bought the bigger version of a handheld and complain that it's big? I'm confused. Why not trade it in for an original 3DS?

OP do you wear skinny jeans? Are you a hipster? Is that why you don't like the second screen? If Nintendo made a plaid 3DS would you be first in line?

What we need here is a 2DS Micro. However then I feel like we would be getting complaints of it being uncomfortable to hold because it's too small and the screen size being bad.

Nintendo didn't give me that choice with the new version. I would trade this in for the standard n3ds if I could

I don't know about you OP. My Vita is definitely longer and thicker than my 3DS XL. I feel less comfortable putting my Vita in my pocket because the sticks are exposed. I don't have a slim, but the the difference is only 2-3mm.

They're both dusty because all my portable gaming time is spent on MH4 on my N3DS.

I don't actually carry my portable consoles around, but I do agree that the new vita is a much better form factor than the ds xl or 3ds xl. It is so much lighter and fits better in my hands. Probably the best form factor for portable consoles I've tried.

If you think about it, human babies aren't really that portable either. They way 7lbs at the lowest. That's really unergonomic. But I don't see people complaining about them online. You can't even fit them in your pocket.

I take mine almost literally everywhere. I use one of those terrycloth reversible pouches that was on Club Nintendo.

Edit: These are the ones. Though they were meant for DSi my XL fits perfectly.

Pop it in the pouch and put it in a coat pocket or backpack. Worst case just carry the pouch by the strings.

And it's not that heavy. I play in public comfortably all the time.

Owning both a Vita and a 3DSXL, I.. have no idea how you could find the Vita easier to play on the go. Sure, it's a little bit big for pockets, but at least you don't have to worry about scratching up the screen, or messing up the sticks. Also, they're like the same weight...

The only NOT portable thing from any 3DS is the screen.

Portable screen must be OLED since the differents sources of light you will be exposed. It's mandatory!

Of course it is?

I mean, in a bag. Right next to my Vita!

Vita is easier because it feels sturdier/has no floppy second screen. The 3DS also has no problems scratching itself up even when used normally and by closing the second screen. And unless I am completely crazy, the OG Vita weighs noticeably less than the 3DSXL (just balanced each)

I kind of see what the OP is saying here. The NXL is pretty large and the glossyness makes me not want to bring it anywhere in fear of scratching. The Vita on the other hand is very portable, sticks and all. Too bad the Vita game catalogue is a joke.

Clearly the winner here is Standard n3DS.

OG is GOAT.
Standard N3DS is GOAT. OG is ... Eh. Not good.

I'm going on a trip and was debating which handheld to pack. Vita slim won pretty easily even though I've been playing the n3DS XL a lot more recently.

The thing is a monstrosity and I'd rather not deal with it at the airport or on a plane. The vita is just more comfortable to play on the go

Why won't Nintendo get rid of the useless second screen? :(

Edit: it's not about transporting it (backpack works fine). It's just not comfortable to play in tight spots and it's also too heavy IMO

Use a regular 3DS?

How the fuck is a Vita slim more portable?

Yea, they aren't pocketable in pants, but it fits into a big jacket and definitely into a bag.

what is this thread lol.

the vita is not more portable than the 3DS XL. you can close the 3DS XL so it is flat on both sides. it will fit into just about any pocket unless you wear the skinniest of skinny jeans. the vita has two thumbsticks protruding out. You can't really put that in your pocket unless you want the thumbsticks poking into your body or poking out of your pockets (and potentially getting damaged).

this thread is just silly.

look, I wish NA got the regular sized 3DS as well, but it is seriously not *that* much smaller than the XL and saying that the vita is more portable is laughable.

Saw the thread title and would have bet you $1000 the OP was going to be a mobile splooge fest about how easy it is to carry a 2mm phone in your pocket. Then I actually read it and LOL'ed heartily when I got to PS Vita. Hoo'boy you gotta be pretty high to make a thread about PS Vita with those gangly ass analog sticks being a benchmark of portability.

I've never had trouble going anywhere with a 3DS. I don't put it in my pants pockets...already filled with phone/wallet/keys anyway. Keep my 3DS in a side jacket/hoodie pocket, or in the car. If I'm going anywhere for more than a normal day's activities I have a backpack.

Gangly ass? Fuck is this shit. Vita is high quality, solid hardware with a fantastic screen and build quality. Nothing about it is gangly-ass. What are you talking about?

I am loving my 3DSXL, but damn every time I switch to Vita I'm sad that there is such a big difference between the two.

Are you a small child? The XL is perfectly portable. Fits in my pocket and everything.

EDIT: Seriously OP, what is your height/weight?

Me: 6ft, 162 lbs, regular fit jeans. I theoretically could stuff an XL in my pants, but it would be very difficult and would probably lead to damage to my console.

The difference in feel and weight between the original Vita and the PCH-2000 is night and day.
I would argue that the OLED Vita isn't terribly portable, either. Still loved it, though.

You know how those sticks are...well sticking out? Yeah, putting that in any pocket is a bad idea. I doubt they were talking about quality but how they get in the way.
