The "All Software" tab on Switch should really be the default home screen

I've recently gone over the limit on how many games can be shown on the Switch home screen, and with most of my games being "pick-up-and-play" I switch games often. Therefore I am kind of annoyed that the limit on software on the home menu is only 12 games.

Second of all, the All Software menu just looks better.

Third, the All Software button is at the right-most section of the menu, meaning you have to scroll past all games to get to it. If they are insisting on having the row of icons when you open the console, the All Software button should be just one click to the left of the first default last played game.

Steam has a bunch of viewing options, and I think the Switch would benefit from having the same options, where you can choose your own default.

Is this just a nitpick by me, or do you agree? I don't know if this actually warrants its' own thread, but since GAF managed to change a few game icons maybe someone will listen if we make enough noise!

I disagree. The aesthetic and design of the Home Screen is great and I'm only usually playing one of the last 10 games I was already playing so I like how it is. An option is fine but don't make it default

I agree completely, and I'm hoping that the Wii U's wonderful menu and folder customization options are coming to the Switch at some point in some capacity. The lack of organization is attacking my OCD hard.

Disagree. Maybe just put the 'all software' icon at the bottom next to settings etc. but the default screen looks far better and is far more relevant to your recent titles than just a massive splurge of game logos.

I disagree since I don't use that many games. However the best solution would be a choice we can make ourselves.

May be as an option, but do you always play more than 5 games at a time, OP?
Puyo Puyo (competition), Overcooked (co-op), Picross S (think together), Sonic Mania (she's nostalgic for Sonic) and Thimbleweed Park (she likes the story) with my girlfriend depending on what we feel like. Steamworld Dig I play to relax/podcast game - almost finished with it. Golf Story I'm in the middle of. Stardew I just started and just got past the first season, Axiom Verge I started and played an hour or so, will continue when I'm done with Steamworld Dig I think. Mario + Rabbids I play when I feel like it, a few battles every few evenings, and Thumper I play a world every now and then but it demands total concentration so I can't play more than a world at a time. Zelda I play for relaxation also but has recently taken a break to finish Steamworld Dig.

That's what, 11 games that I actually play regularly. Not always, but I like to juggle games (short attention span I gues).

But... Options?
Make us all happy, Nintendo!

With the All Software screen you don't get the prominent display of the buttons that include News, eShop, Settings et al. and those seem like fairly important things for people to see at bootup.

they need to have it like the 3DS where you can zoom in and out and control how many rows are stacked and how big you want your icons to be

I'm quite enjoying how uncluttered and sparse the main screen is, and it's a really nice showcase for the artwork (and we know how some Switch owners feels about that).

But, I can see why others may prefer another look and I suspect that we'll end up with the same options that the 3DS had where you could elect anything from a single-row of icons to varying sized grids.

I think we're all expecting themes at some point so it'll probably happen when that does.

It's funny they are still sticking with + and - buttons in place of start and select despite them never being used in that context, never for zooming or increasing/decreasing of something. 3DS has buttons for scaling down icons and showing more rows, I expect Switch has to eventually do something like that.

ehh, I could go either way, but I never use all software unless I play an old game

Everything is a friggin "achievement" these days.

it's not like it matters since the main screen will show all games until you go beyond that.

They should make it like the 3DS menu where you could zoom in or out to display more games at once or just a row.

Great suggestion. I could live with just hitting the minus button to bring up a grid, instead of scrolling to All Software!

I'm sure it's coming in an update. It's a brain dead easy thing to implement. I bet you we get folders too like on 3DS.

Disagree. I want to focus on the software I’ve played most recently and not have a busy grid of icons in my face. (I have 31 pieces of software installed on my Switch and have moved on from 20 of them)

For physical games inserting the game card automatically moves the icon for the game to the front of the row too.

The All software tab could do with some filter options before it becomes more useful, I think. It’s fine for picking out games you haven’t played in a while but I like the Switch’s focus on recents over everything.

Nah, but it should appear on the furthest left side NOT the furthest right side - you shouldn't have to scroll past 12 games to get to it.

I'd fine with the current layout. The all software screen just looks too busy. If they changed it so that it appeared on the far left instead then that would be more convenient.

I prefer the 3Ds , Wii U and Wii screens where you have 3 or more lines of tiles next to each other.
A single line of games is just poor use of space.

yep

If you play more than 10 games at the same time... that's on you, I guess.

I can't fathom how people like self-arranging icons. I guess the Office team used you for playtesting when they released that version with variable toolbar.

Pretty sure it will pop out when you "fill" the amount of games the main screen could you have.
The entire subject of this thread is how the original dashboard does not show all games you have, unless you scroll sufficiently in any direction. It's in the OP.

Shouldn't be default, but it should remember the view if you select it. I was actually surprised it defaulted to the original view after a refresh. Seems like it should be a toggle.

No default but as an option would nice to have. I would like to pin games also.
Or sorting/grouping like on PS3.
(By type, alphabetical, last played etc)

I think something like this would be great, since it wouldn't kill the simplistic design:

Yea but the folders should be higher or it will overlap the title name

I'd be okay with being able to change your display default like you can with steam. But ml making it the default? Nah.

Nah - usually I'm playing one, or at the most 3 games at a time. Having them all be on display wouldn't be any more useful for me.

The all software button is basically the equivalent on the Android App droor. In that context, I'd suggest moving it down to the task bar with the eShop, News, etc.
