The Amazing Spider-Man - Final Trailer

In all the excitement, I just realized they changed Spider-Man's origin from accidental super powers to Peter Parker: The Chosen One.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

That's what they make it out to be and I really hope it isn't. Of course I wouldn't be wholly opposed to peter's genes being messed with by his parents when he was a kid and the spider bite triggered something hidden within him.

Is any of this parent stuff (at least, what it appears to be) canon? Don't really care either way - just curious. My only Spiderman knowledge is through the 90s cartoon and the trilogy.

Sounds like the plot of Ang Lee's Hulk.

I thought the whole reason why they rebooted it was to save money, instead of paying Raimi and co a bunch more for a fourth film.

No, the reason it was rebooted is that Sony was a bit underhanded and had a second script (ASM) commissioned in secret in case Raimi wouldn't accept their LUDICROUS timetable for S-M4. Raimi said he couldn't do it, he and Maguire were promptly dumped, and they went ahead with ASM instead. Raimi also never got a script he liked.

Yeah, after the ass-raping Sony gave Raimi during Spider-Man 3, it wasn't a surprise that Sam and co decided not to accept their conditions for what seemed like a more painful session.

It just confirms some things said at BadassDigest, and the trailer just makes it really blatant.

Ugh, not a fan of that change at all. Now Uncle Ben's death will still send Peter down the path of heroism, but by changing the origin from an accident into destiny, it diminishes Peter as a character a bit. The spider-bite was a complete accident, it could've happen to any other average guy. But now, he's just that much less of an average guy, that less relatable and like you or me, which is a huge part of the character's appeal. Now, he's the CHOSEN ONE, the one who was gifted from an early age to do great things.

Meh. Meh, meh, MEH.

Frankly I half think Sony cooked up that crazy timeline just to get Sam to balk. The commissioning of ASM's script tells me they were assuming and probably hoping he would walk.

If I remember correctly, Raimi was supposed to start shooting in June 2010 for a film to be released in May 2011. And he had no script yet in January 2010 when he was let go or walked or whatever.

Yknow, I watched it and I just do not remember the plot of that film at all. I just remember it being dreadfully slow and judging by the action and swinging I've seen, I don't think this film will have that issue.

He wanted Vulture for SM3, they wanted Venom. That's why

He was going to get Vulture in S-M4 though. And.....Vulture's daughter or some shit. LOLOLOL. The few tidbits we did learn about S-M4 sounded awful. There was supposedly Vulture played by Ben Kingsley, his daughter, Vulturess or some shit, and then Black Kat on top of that. Proving that Sony didn't care how poor S-M3 was. It still make a truckload, so bring on dat overload of villains!

Wasn't Black Cat supposed to be the Vulture's daughter or something? I remember being shocked by stupidity whenever I read those tidbits.

I can't recall the specifics, but it sounded even more dumb than S-M3. As much as I wanted Raimi and Maguire to do a S-M4 to redeem themselves and the franchise, THAT S-M4......wasn't going to be it.

Spider-Man 3 is awesome. You take that back.

Thank god that didn't happen. I don't think I could have handled a butchered Black Cat along with a humorless Spidey.

Just did some quick research. Apparently John Malkovich was in talks for Vulture and Anne Hathaway for Felicia Hardy/The Vulturess.

I can't believe anyone thought that was a good idea.

if it was around 120 than i think its highly impressive

It's not. They talked about that originally when they were talking about heavy use of practical effects and minimal CG. This trailer shows you they they never followed through on that promise. In fact, they flat out bullshitted. There is just as much, if not more, CG in this than there was in the Raimi movies. That's why it ended up north of $200M.

It's not. It's substantially higher. They (Sony) were originally touting that this was going to be a tightly budgeted, fiscally responsible film (originally they said $90M, lolz). That didn't happen. This is your typical $200M blockbuster.

I remember being pissed at that $90m news. Soured me on the whole project until the first trailer came out.

Did the Raimi films have any practical web-slinging whatsoever?

This thing is going to be really fun, and Lizard is starting to look menacing, but the costume is still awful*. That scene with the carjacker was stupid. The quip was okay; the over-acting, not so much.

*Still, I'd rather have a good movie with a poor costume than a poor movie with a good costume. :P

Ha. At least it's not an adaptation of The Other.

was it the sony executives or Marvel ones that forced riami to include venom.
But venom were the least of the problem everything from acting to cg (sandman)which they were touting as next big thing were bad
They were caving to fans, the unofficial execs

IIRC they toyed with that idea in the comics. Peter is also not normal even without his powers, the man is a genius intellectually.

My guess with that line might be Connor suggesting that Peter just like him is the next step in evolution.

Also that SM4 shit sounds absolutely horrible. Jesus.

I thought that the Sandman's birth scene was well done. But that was one of the very few things I liked about SM3. :/

Damn, that movie disappointed me so much. I watched it for the first time on DVD, then I watched it in bits and pieces when my nephews/niece came over. Haven't watched it since.

well the cg looks even worse than the sam raimi films, even with all that money. that, and it doens't look like new york, at all. that's the bigger offense, imo. 500 days of summer was decent, but I have zero faith in this movie. that raindrops scene just makes me weep for what once was.

and christ, I really don't need another "[main character] is jesus." if i want another shitty take on jesus, I'll gladly watch the superman returns teaser (since, let's face it, in less than a minute, that teaser accomplished more than singer managed in two and a half hours). part of the charm is that peter's just a dude in high school (or college) - no chosen one bullshit plz plz plz.

Great trailer. CG is a bit shoddy though.

I fully expect this to fuel a Burton vs. Nolan style debate between Raimi and Webb.

Only difference is that Spider-Man 2 is worlds better than Batman 89, and I doubt this new film will even be in the same ballpark as Batman Begins.

Never mind, sort of sounds like that analogy fails.

Only word I can find is unremarkable. The "edginess" and "grittiness" they are trying to pull here is terrible. And why was there a shot of a skate trick?

What the fuck man

I'm impressed. Now I'm getting excited about this.

I saw Spiderman 2 the other day and I got mad knowing that Spiderman 3 was following it. This might make things better.

I wonder if the LED lights in his wrist shooters change color to let him know he's running out of fluid? Only thing I can think of for having them there...

Visually its awesome. Its got everything perfect for Spider-man action sequences, but I'm worried as hell about the plot. Its hinting toward his powers not being a fluke, towards his motivation switching from guilt over his Uncle toward unraveling a conspiracy about his parents (W.T.F.) and how many shots were there of Peter Parker being way too good with women? Yeah I know who it is, but its still a bit much right out the gate for a character who is supposed to be a social trainwreck. Seems a bit too easy for him is all I'm saying and I hope its lead up to with enough struggle and awkwardness to sell the character.

Plus my final eyebrow raiser is that skateboard moment. Peter acting cool? EVER? Screams pandering to me...I hope all these points are just small blips in the movie and not big fat honking detours from what Spider-man's character and core elements are.

Still I will agree with everyone that those action shots look perfect. Even his quipping to the guy with the knife was spot on. Just hope they remembered to write a good movie in between these fights and action scenes. They seem to have gotten Spider-man down...here's hoping they remembered how you're supposed to write Peter.

I have various concerns, particularly what looks like a CG clusterfuck in the 3rd act, but I think overall it looks pretty good.

I'm 99% sure I'll like it infinitely more than Raimi's crap.

LOL wut O_o

I love the first two Raimi films and I can even admit the cgi is dog shit compared to Webbs version.

I wouldnt worry about that. They've done a lot of stuntwork and im surprised at how well it works together with CG.

One of my concerns were for the stunt parts to be pretty obvious and strikingly different than the CG parts, but it looks damn nice.
