The Amazing Spider-Man TRAILER #2

Who is playing the policeman? It looked like Willem Dafoe to me but I might be crazy? Seems like it would cause normal some confusion to cast people that were in previous films for any roles in this.
Hah, yeah they look alike. It's actually the guy from Rescue Me (Denis Leary);

Origin story films aren't really about the villains, though, are they? The Lizard will be here to let Spidey prove his worth as the hero New York deserves/needs/whatever, and then next film they'll spend more time on the villain.

Not saying you can't do an origin story film and flesh out the villain well (BB proved that) but it's clearly not the angle they're going for here. It's Spider-Man's film first and foremost.

I want them to try Venom again next film. It shouldn't be hard to make that concept, of both Spider-Man and Peter's rival, work. They fucked up last time because Venom wasn't supposed to be there.

It's Denis Leary.
I was honestly convinced that was Dafoe until a poster mentioned that not being him.

EDIT: beaten with a stick

Nobody complained about having an obscure villain (Ras al Ghul) be the main baddie in Batman Begins.

Well..during the Batman Begins marketing, a lot of people were concerned about that.. (but then, they also had Scarecrow). The film itself shut everyone up. It all comes down to execution.

Curt Conners is a very interesting character, if done properly of course. He ties into Peter's journey in a very natural way, meaning Webb will be able to avoid one of Raimi's biggest flaws, which was fucking with every villain's back-story so that they somehow knew Peter Parker. Worked well sometimes (Ock), poorly other times (Sandman).

There were a lot of complaints before Batman Begins came out. It was only after people saw it that they forgot all their quibbles.

I don't know how serious you are, but I really, really don't want Kraven as a main villain, at all. That is just so weak. I mean, even in the Ultimate Spider-Man comics, Kraven is just this joke villain.

Yes but in the 616 universe, he's an amazing character. He could bring a very deep and engaging story to this darker reboot. I would propose adding Mysterio as a villian next to Kraven in the same film, except that Mysterio is interesting enough to earn an entire movie for himself as the sole antagonist.

What would be cool is if Lizard doesn't die, but they somehow stop the infection on Conners and let him live. So Connors could still be there in the sequels, with only Peter and Connors knowing his Lizard past. Dunno, I just hate that villains are always getting "killed". Shake it up a bit.

Definitely true. I think the interesting part is how they are going the Ultimate SM comics route, where Connors actually knew Peters father, and together (in the comics) they had developed a way to cure diseases.

That 'cure' eventually became Venom, in the comics. Here, those discoveries seem to be, with Peters help, responsible for creating the Lizard. So many Ult. vibes from this so far, tbh.

Anyway, if they can get it all right, the villains (esp. in ASM2 and 3) can be really thoughtful and focal points to how the story and characters develop, i.e. Osborn/Oscorp/Peters parents/Gwen death/Venom etc.

Nobody? check the impressions that were stated before the movie release.

Lizard Man is just a vehicle to establish Peter's responsibility and coming to terms with what spiderman represents in his life etc. The story isn't about Lizard man, is about Peter Parker. It remains to be seen if Webb can deliver.

Beaten somewhat by:Green Scar.

I believe all the Marvel films are officially in the Ultimate universe.

Exactly this. Just like the real supervillain (the Joker) wasn't introduced in the new Batman series until the second movie, the proper villains in the Spider-Man universe will have to wait until the second movie and we have had some character building for the main cast. The GG would be my choice for the ASM2 and then Venom/Brock for the ASM3. Sounds a lot like the Raimi trilogy, but this is what that set of movies should have been.

I skimmed the thread so I could be wrong on this, but nobody else thought the webshooters sounded really weak, like a squirt bottle? Given everyone in here seems to have their own distinct take on this trailer, I guess that one will be mine.

GG could be super interesting, even without the interesting role that Osborn will have (as responsible for the death of Peters' parents, perhaps).

Costume design, specifically, they might have an opportunity to go in these directions instead;

Holy shit it just dawned on me that we don't have a Harry Osbourne yet. I wonder if he's going to have a place in this series.

And if ever there was a time to adapt Alex Ross's GG design for the Raimi films, it's now

I really wouldn't go with something like that. A static mask works fine for Movie-goblin, as long as it's not a Power Rangers helmet.

Did the organic shooter in the originals sound 'strong'? Sounds the same, tbh, they could have changed it up more, since it's mechanical. I just don't like the LED red flash whenever he shoots a web...

I definitely expect to see him in the second movie, and maybe they get the Osborn hair nailed this time, too.

she looks great. never realized how how she was.
Come to think of it, she is pretty how.

Looks promising.

Anyone got direct download links to the official encode?
Nope, I would expect it to hit soon, but for now, we're reserved to the YT 1080p. I DL'd it, and could upload it if someone wants, but I think we're better off F5ing this link until they upload a proper HD version; http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/sony_pictures/theamazingspiderman/

No, that has never been said. If it were the case, then the story of most Marvel movies wouldn't make sense (Hulk being the most obvious one).
Yeah, almost all of them take attributes from both the 616 and Ult. universes.

While this has a lot of Ult. touches, at the same time they stick with Gwen as the love interest, which isn't the case in the Ult. line. So, basically, it's all up for grabs, and no Marvel movie is strictly here nor there.

Yup, Lizard looks terrible...why couldn't they give him an actual lizard head? Was the CG too difficult?!

I imagine they had a choice from a variety of renders and concept art and ended up picking the one that looked the best. While a snout looks fine in the comics, it might have looked worse than the goomba head we're getting in film.

Looks pretty awesome to me. I have some concerns about the story direction, but I love the look of the movie and how Spider-Man actually has a personality now. I'll be in the theater and excited for it, which I haven't been able to say about a Spider-Man movie since 2002.

Fuck the Raimi films.

I liked everything but the suit.

Its been said 100 times already but def not feeling the suit.
Everything else looks great but the suit (eyes in particular) is the only significant blemish.
While I still more excited for TDKR I actually think this trailer was better :)

Is J. Jonah Jamieson not in this film ?

J.K Simmons was brilliant in the Raimi films, it just doesn't seem like Spider-Man without the character.

Otherwise I was impressed (had low expectations for this). I like how Peter Parker and Spidey are portrayed, looks good so far.

Spidey's best quips are with JJJ.

Looks fine to me.
It's one of those things that doesn't look bad, but doesn't look good, either. What happened to the snout preview at Comicon a while back? People said it looked awesome... oh well. It all seems good, though...

...except for the lack of nose.

.
The Daily Bugle IS in the movie, just as Oscorp is, but there is no JJ or Osborn, yet. I'm wiling to bet both characters will be in ASM2.

The lack of lab coat seems wrong. :(
I kinda thought the same, but just picture how lame and unnatural it would actually look.. maybe in the first scenes after his transformation, but not as a full time thing.

That would be worse than the Hulk retaining his jeans after transforming.
