Just realized Lizard doesn't seem to have the white lab coat either. Fucking lame.

No Snout, no lab coat, why? You're gonna CGI the animal anyway why not add snout and a coat? Maybe the coat shows up in the movie eventually who knows. The no-snout head looks silly like Mario Bros movie Goomba.

And I also never understood people wanting a mechanical web shooter instead of organic. Organic makes so much more sense. He has every other spider 'power' why wouldn't you give him web capabilities as well? Why have the character make a machine that does it? I echo the other guy saying it's dumb.

The suit looks tacky as fuck. I always assumed in post editing it would blend a lot better with the world and whatnot, but no, it looks like a guy that went to a cheap thrift store and bought a spiderman halloween costume.

I am okay with the mechanical web shooter so can't agree with you there. It is a display of Peter's intelligence. I do agree with you on the lizard, if it's going full CG then why not do the villain proper justice? It just really makes absolutely no sense to me.

edit: and let's assume his snout does grow and he becomes more like the villain we know? I am forced to watch goomba lizard until then?

Spidey against the police force seemed far more intriguing than the Lizard. And why do these super hero villains always go straight towards downtown to fuck shit up?

Im thinking the whole snout thing was dropped because it probably looked pretty ridiculous when they needed Connors to talk. Just my guess.

The hell is this "If a real human got spider powers it'd be coming out his ass" people are getting hung up on? If a real human got spider powers it wouldn't matter because it's a comic book, they're making it up. It certainly feels much weirder that he only got some spider powers and had to compensate for the rest, but atleast the trade off is than he seems smarter than luckier.

It's just that the web thing is the most identifiable facet of a spider. Mechanical web shooters is like Cyclops building himself a visor that shoots an energy beam.

Well, apparently the Lizard is trying to infect all humans with the 'reptile formula' so everyone can be of the superior race, or something like that (ala in the comics).

Surely there must be a more covert and intelligent way of achieving this than calling attention to yourself? These final battle acts in these movies are just typical now. We know the end-result anyway. I can't remember a final boss scene that was memorable.

why the fuck are they not putting in Venom, its just ridiculous to me. Everybody knows who Venom and Carnage are and they continually either fuck venom all up (Spiderman 3) or just forget about carnage. They are two of the most iconic villains in Spiderman why the fuck are you ignoring them?

He went covert last time, which had a funny scene of a chick dumping her boyfriend for a black guy because The Lizard was reducing people to basic primal instincts.

Cause this is a reboot and it's probably a good idea to save the really iconic villains for later. Besides I think it is better to have a more experienced Spiderman deal with Venom and Carnage, they are more challenging foes.

In a more realistic setting when the lizard transforms his lab coat and pants would rip off completely if he grows in size. I'm okay with him not having the lab coat or purple pants. Don't really care about the snout either.

The only thing I ever hated about the web shooters was it created a reason for them to randomly run out at any written moment to try and create more tension.

I'm probably in the minority as I thought Raimi's Spiderman movies were pretty terrible(his only films I don't enjoy). I'm not a big comic book fan though and Spiderman never really interested me as a kid or an adult unlike other superhero's. It's weird though, I watched the trailer last night and thought it looked horrible. Watching it today, my reaction was completely different. I'm really looking forward to this now.

What the fuck? Lol, you serious? The last SM movie had venom in it, there's no fucking way that's going to be their entry reboot villain, makes literally no sense. Maybe in the sequel(s), but not as the first movie.

That makes sense, I can not wait for them to introduce both of them. Venom this time better be played by the right actor. Topher Grace was no Venom (Eddie Brock) imo.

Count me in as a fan of the biological web shooters. It's much more elegant origin story than Peter artificially creating them. And LOL at people complaining that Spidey shooting web from his wrists is scientifically in accurate. Since when have comics been 100% scientifically accurate?

Also, if Peter really did invent web fluid, why hasnt he patented it making himself a millionaire instead of being a sad sack working class schlub?

Also, Spidey's web shooting troubles in the second film is a metaphor for male impotence.

The fuck?

When was this, in the 60's?

Was like 3 years ago. Big buff dude equals better provider.

I don't care one way or the other, but building the webshooters and perfecting the formula goes a long way to show smart Peter really is.

Biological web shooters are a great cop-out for filmmakers who don't want to expand on Parker's intelligence.

It's a major part of his character. The Raimi movies kinda treated Parker like he was a bit of an idiot. He's one of the most intelligent super heroes there are, and the fact that he's able to invent something like the web-shooter while in high school is a testament to that. It's like if the Iron Man movies didn't portray Tony Stark as a technological genius.

He's genius level, certainly, but it's a relatively small part of his character. Spidey is known more for his wisecracks and Spidey powers. Web-shooters aren't essential to his character.

He's portrayed as fairly smart in Spidey 1 and 2; going to college and understanding Doc Oc's quantum mechanics. He's a league below the real comic geniuses like Reed Richards, Tony Stark, VvD. I thought the original trilogy portayed Peter fairly well. Except he never looked like a teenager, more like an overgrown child.

The only thing I ever hated about the web shooters was it created a reason for them to randomly run out at any written moment to try and create more tension.

That's the only reason they exist. And will exist in this movie, aside from providing fanservice to the purists.

He actually tried in the comics to do that I believe, but the webbing dissolves roughly an hour after being shot.

That's pretty much the perfect description of Toby.

Im actually not really hyped on Venom and Carnage either. But that's not because those are uninteresting to me, it's just that, I grew up more with villains like Lizard, Chameleon, Rhino, Vulture, Shocker, Dr Octopus, Sandman, Hob Goblin and Kraven.

Actually I'm pretty interested in Carnage, isn't he a total psychopath?
I'm fond of the Clone Saga as well but found it a bit boring as a kid, what was the name of the villain again?

I still want Kraven in the next movie. Please no villains already included in the original trilogy.

No, just no.

That was only in Spiderman 3, he can be a great villain if done right. He was great in the animted show, I loved the "alien costume" episodes.

He's kind of like Marvel's Bane. They came out of the same era, they tend to appeal mostly to teenagers, and they're very rarely compelling.

It's not that they can't be compelling...it's just that 9/10, they're not. Purely physical threats that are never overly developed.

Bane, at least, was intelligent on paper..so Nolan's using that as a jumping point. Don't know what they'd have to do to something great with Venom..As someone ITT said earlier though, Ultimate Spider-Man's Venom origin is better, for what it's worth.

no this is Amazing Spiderman he has to invent and build web shooters.

I have always hated this BTW

if you cant shoot web what makes you spider man? strength? spider sense?

dumb.

Proportionate strength, speed and agility of a spider, spider-sense, wall-crawling... come on now.

Elegant origin story? I entirely disagree. As others have mentioned, making the web fluid helps to establish the intelligence of Spider-Man. Biological just ignores it and serves to remove valuable character development.

Also, please name a practical use for web fluid, outside of super hero work. And then what could possibly go wrong when giving civilians a fluid with the tensile strength of steel that they can't even use as well as he can.

Lizard is a great Spidey villain

specially for a origin story like this. Lets stop asking for villians that came way later in Peter's life as Spidey.
