The Amazing Spider-Man TRAILER #2

I don't know, I'm still unsure whether this will stack up to Raimi's Spidey 1 and 2. Martin Sheen is a definite plus though, he'd make a pretty amazing uncle! But yeah, I feel like this is too soon after the last trilogy and some of the shots of him jumping around just look a bit silly. The Lizard as a villain does intrigue me however.

I know exactly why I don't like it so far. Andrew Garfield fucking sucks. Kid almost broke Social Network for me. Somewhere in between his uncomfortably too-boyish looks and that ridiculous accent that betrays how much he's suppressing a natural dialect, I'm instantly taken out of whatever I'm watching. Hate him.

The Lizard is practically a non-villain in that trailer too. No awesome antagonist, poor choice of killer sequences for the trailer, I don't know...not great. And sent to die in a summer dominated by Rises and the Avengers.

The police hunting spider-man subplot works better as a lead into the sequel. Kraven and Scorpion would both work well as the villains. It could at least be unique for the Spider-man movies.

Havent read the rest of gaf's feedback yet, but just saw the trailer and wanted to share my impressions.

Im actually really impressed, Andrew Garfield works as spiderman, and seems to work as Peter. Thank god he doesn't look as awkward in the movie as he does in the official photos released with his goof hair. But yeah, the movie looks really fun, the CG is looking fairly decent and overall the the movie just looks good.

My complaints-
-The Lizards design. Ouch, his face is so fucking bad. =/
- Spider-mans suit looks a little awkward still. Not horrible, but not the best.

So anyways, this has me pumped, and to be honest has me a lot more excited than the recent Marvel films.

The second half of the trailer helped to get me interested, but every time I see stuff from this movie, it feels like I already saw it before.

The Spider-Man suit is perfect, and the villain looks interesting; but it still feels like Spider-Man 1.

Well, you're in the super minority then. First person i've seen in this whole thread who says Garfield hasn't nailed the SM/PP look and feel.

Doesn't look amazing, but I'll still see it and probably love it. Peter Parker seems much more like the Peter Parker I'm used to from the old comics based off the few scenes in the trailer. At minimum, I'm digging that aspect.

So you are pissed that they AREN'T making the lizard like he is in the comics....Then also pissed because they ARE making Spidey more like he is in the comics?

*mindblown*

Let's lay this to rest. As much as it may surprise a lot of you, Lizard didn't really have a snout in the comics until much later.

Say what you will about how the movie is filmed or what you think of the story and dialogue, but it's actually quite faithful to the comic books.

Avengers being better than this would be nothing short of a miracle.

I would eat my own hat if the Avengers beat AMS at the box office. Spider-Man is one of the most recognisable heroes of all time, a rag tag bunch of second tier heroes isn't going to come close. Spider-Man is in the same league as Superman and Batman, none of the Avengers are. Iron Man is probably the biggest, but nowhere near the same popularity as Spider-Man.

Very good point. Don't think it's a bad idea, but the way they executed it just looks plain weird. I don't know, maybe I need a better look, but it looks so alien.

People will see Avengers simply because its grouping all those characters together. That's the only thing it has going for it and it will be a novelty that is quickly worn off. If a better director were behind it all I'd have a bit more optimism.

I think Andrew has nailed the role 100%, but even I were a bit surprised by the accent in the trailer, I'm not used to that and it felt out of place, but I already got used to it. Love Andrew, Love Peter, Love Spider-Man.

Whatever. The best Marvel film since Spidey 2 will be Iron Man 3 easily. Shane Black is too good to pass up. Even coming off of IM2.

Huh, must be a evolutionary thing.

This topic heavily reminds me of Russel T.Davies vs. Stephen Moffat. In fact, it's exactly the same, right down to the "RTD goes batshit insane with the direction in the last series and specials" to "Rami going batshit insane with the direction of the third movie" and "It's just a reboot for the sake of it. They are changing way too many things and it's not Doctor Who".

Jesus Christ. It's actually like looking at the Doctor Who fanbase.

Oh yeah. I love the new trailer btw.

Yes, backing up the argument that they should go the snout route by saying that's how it was in the comics, is dumb.

No, it doesn't make the current snout less lizard look any better.

[edit] Also, he still SORT of had a snout, instead of being totally flat faced;

What I was getting at is that Spider-Man transcends the comic book genre and is fully loved by everyone - parents, kids, teenagers, couples and comic book fans. The Avengers is a movie that is squarely aimed at comic book fans and 18-30 year old dudes. I would go to the movies with my gf to watch ASM, but there is little chance of us going to see The Avengers, she just isn't interested, if she doesn't go, I'm not going alone, so I'll wait for the Blu-ray so I can rent it on LoveFilm.

While Iron Man 3 will certainly be better than the second film, I'm too anal to care because in my eyes the series was already ruined by IM2, just like how Raimi's Spider-man series was killed off by how bad the third one was. I know Raimi isn't largely at fault for SM3, and that he could have totally made a comeback on SM4, but the third movie was so awful that for me it was either going to be a fresh new take, or bust.

While IM2 isn't quite as bad as SM3, it's very close, so I guess I've just stopped caring whether or not IM3 is any good because even if it is, it's going to be a broken trilogy.

I agree, I'm just saying that Avengers will bring in a lot of money simply because of what it is. However, there's a chance that it will open, make a killing on opening weekend, and drop hard after that. Whereas Amazing Spider-man has a better chance at having stronger legs IMO.

Even the change in the look of the film is sort of similar.

Honestly, the hand-off of the franchise isn't that different from comics themselves. In comics writers/artists are always handing off characters to the next team after their run is up. Things undoubtedly change from team-to-team. Canon gets skewed in favour of artistic license and the books themselves evolve and change through this process.

The reason it's easy to compare to Doctor Who is that Who goes through very comic book like changes between creative teams.

The reboot is the only thing that really bugs me about this. I wish we didn't have to sit through the origin story again.

I wouldn't mind seeing her in Kirsten Dunst's clingy rain-soaked dress from the first movie.

You dirty dog.

This lizard talk got me thinking again.... what the fuck happened to this?;

ASM-Lizard-3b.jpg

Was it just the angle or something? (it's a leak from the comic con footage a while back, btw, confirmed to be real iirc)

Why can't this crossover with the Avengers, waaaaaaaai (I actually know, but STILL.)

I wonder if they're not playing up Uncle Ben's death in the trailer because everybody knows its gonna happen.

This needs to happen. The plot would have so much more potential.

It reminds me of the Gangland plot from the Spectacular Spider-Man. That was a great story there, with the Big Man, Doc Ock, and what'shisname all vying for control of New York's criminal power. Still not sure why they brought back the Goblin for that instead of introducing the Kingpin.

Wouldn't it be easy to deduce that the lizard pictured above is its 'final' or ultimate mutation, saved for the big climactic battle at the end of the movie?

I really hope this happens in the future somehow. Does anyone think Sony/Marvel would be willing to make some kind of deal so that Spiderman is in a future Avengers film? It really is such a missed opportunity that he won't be in it. (Why no Wolverine too?)

I think it could happen just as a cameo.

No I don't think Sony wants Marvel tainting another super-hero with their nonsense.

It's much worse to say 'here's something complex Parker invented, he's totally smart' and then never reference his intelligence again (I don't know if the film will do this but just saying). How about having organic webs, which makes much more sense, while showing how smart he is in other ways?

Oh my God, I can't believe we're still arguing about this after numerous Spidey threads.

Mechanical shooters, along with Peter's intelligence and other traits, make him Spiderman, and not his mutation. It cheapens the story if anyone else were to get bit and obtain all of his powers organically.

Actually, I don't even think he's going to die in this movie, which may be the weirdest change for a SM origin story, ever.

I want to believe that, but there is no indication that that's the route they're going with. How pre-ending could that scene with Lizard on the tower, be?

What's the fascination with Karen Gillian?

She's like a redhead, female Karl Pilkington, if Karl Pilkington looked anything like Karen Gillan whatsoever in any way to someone not suffering from severe eye or brain damage.

I can agree with this correction.

Well 1.- that's never gonna happen, and 2.- I wouldn't want it to happen either. Marvel Studios sucks balls.
