The Amazing Spider-Man TRAILER #2

Seems to be about as close as you can get to true Spider Man in a film. Nerd science? Check. Spider Man wisecracks? Check. Spider-Man doing things a spider can? Check.

I am hyped but not sold on Peter's skateboard/street urchin style.

I would eat my own hat if the Avengers beat AMS at the box office. Spider-Man is one of the most recognisable heroes of all time, a rag tag bunch of second tier heroes isn't going to come close. Spider-Man is in the same league as Superman and Batman, none of the Avengers are. Iron Man is probably the biggest, but nowhere near the same popularity as Spider-Man.

1. This isn't still 2008. People know who the Avengers are now and the hype for that--especially in the past year--is growing pretty big among the general audience.

2. I could definitely see Avengers beating ASM at the box office, if for no other reason than ASM's legs are going to be pretty hampered by TDKR opening two weeks later.

iirc Fox is rebooting Daredevil too, or is trying to anyway along with F4.
I honestly can't wait for the DD reboot, if they get it right. Hell, even hyped about a F4 reboot, never really liked those movies even though they could've been cool.

Wouldn't it be easy to deduce that the lizard pictured above is its 'final' or ultimate mutation, saved for the big climactic battle at the end of the movie?
No, because the scene in that picture takes place in girls bathroom, and you can see in the new trailer that the Lizard is climbing out of a hole inside of a bathroom stall. It's more likely they decided to change the model for some reason or another. I'm guessing with the snout it was very hard to make it look like he'd be able to talk while in Lizard form.

They just need to stop with the interconnecting of BShield stuff.

They need to stop rushing movies out on cheap budgets so they can keep a sturdy storyline running from year to year throughout a shitton of tonally disconnected films.

Whiplash being completely worthless had nothing to do with Scarjo beating up dudes.

Wait, Fox get a comic book movie right? Never going to happen.

They lucked into X2 and since then their comic book movies have all been seriously crap. I will never forgive them for turning Gambit into a whiny bitch.

Seriously, does no one else but me think they might've left the snout out because it be stupid hard to animate not to look retarded when Lizard talks?

Well 1.- that's never gonna happen, and 2.- I wouldn't want it to happen either. Marvel Studios sucks balls.

I agree but this is under the assumption that they didn't suck and cared about the writing/quality of their movies. I still would have loved to see Spiderman swinging around with Hulk breaking shit in Avengers movie though. That stupid Renner hawkeye is so out of place.

Oh my God, I can't believe we're still arguing about this after numerous Spidey threads.

Mechanical shooters, along with Peter's intelligence and other traits, make him Spiderman, and not his mutation. It cheapens the story if anyone else were to get bit and obtain all of his powers organically.

He would have never become Spiderman without the bite though. It's not the same as Batman, where all of his prior learning/intelligence/dedication etc. allowed him to become Batman. His parents dying is the catalyst but it's not like he was injected with something that gives him extra abilities. Spiderman is a mix of both prior intelligence/personality + mutation. It doesn't make sense for him to have spider-everything but no webs for some reason.

That is probably the reason, doesn't bother me because the Lizard looks damn never different every time he shows up.

That makes sense, but how would they not have realized this after fully developing the CG for a whole other model? Doesn't that seem like a waste of resources/time to backpedal on?

I`m not feeling the cast at all, especially Captain Stacey that chose that guy?
He's one of my favorite parts of this movie, actually.
was kind of a rescue me fan :p

It doesn't make sense for him to have spider-everything but no webs for some reason.
How? How has the comics strived for so long, then, if it doesn't make sense? Fuck it, this can't go any further, none of this bullshit makes sense people, get over it.

Love the vibe and atmosphere. This looks and feels more like Spidey than any of Raimi's films, not to mention we might finally have a decent portrayal of Peter Parker on the big screen.

I really hope this happens in the future somehow. Does anyone think Sony/Marvel would be willing to make some kind of deal so that Spiderman is in a future Avengers film? It really is such a missed opportunity that he won't be in it. (Why no Wolverine too?)

Because Spidey and Wolverine are not really Avengers despite Bendis' wankery.

Why aren't Spider-Man or Wolverine real Avengers? They have a level of fame that allows them to do solo books, but so does Captain America, Iron Man and Thor. Heck, Captain America was given retroactive Founder status in place of the Hulk.

I feel guilty Geeking out on this, but people claiming that web shooters are a huge part of the spiderman mythos are correct. It grounds him a bit, in the fact that he can run out of a huge source of his ability. But more importantly, as others have said, it reinforces the character. The dude is supposed to be a genius, and as far as character development goes, this immediately reinforces this to the audience and foreshadows future success due to his smarts. You only leave this part of his mythos out of all you want to drive home is a dude in a suit swinging around

Trailer is great. From the wisecracks and playin up his smarts, it looks like this Parker's character will be much better. I still hate how these movies feel the need to constantly show spidey without his mask just to get more shots of the actors faces. The whole point of the mask is to keep the damn thing on, by be swinging around without it

Isn't the Lizard the most tragic villain in the SM universe?
He actually wants to do good as long as he's in human form right?
Yeah, definitely. Not sure how it'll be in this movie, but since him and Peters father were working together on something that could save lives (including his), i'm gonna assume he's a 'good guy'.

However, i get the feeling that he isn't as good human in this movie as he was in Raimi's flicks or the comics.

Wolverine's in too many books, adding him to the Avengers was just silly. I thought Spidey was a real Avenger right now?

Here's why I think this isn't just an origin story: nowhere in this trailer do we see Peter getting bit by the spider or Uncle Ben's death. From the first shot he's already Spider-Man.

I'm sure that stuff will be in there, but unless they're going out of their way to avoid showing it, it doesn't look like the focus.

(I hope Uncle Ben does die, though. It would be super weird to make him Spider-Man without any real reason.)

Trailer looked super awesome to me, definitely hyped for the film. The reboot looks great so far, I really like the "Ultimate" Spidey vibe Garfield and the costume give off. The Lizard looks fine to me, I equate it to the way the Green Goblin had a redesign when he was in Ultimate Spider-man. The snout would've looked really retarded in my opinion.

I think its a movie thing. Its easy to convey emotion in the comics because you have the luxury of being able to move spidey's eyes around even if it didnt make sense that he even could. Ive even seen some art where Ironmans mask looks a certain way emotionally. You dont have that luxury in movies obviously. I mean you COULD but I dont think it would translate well. So sometimes the mask has to come off.

Think of the last bit of Spiderman 2 when that wall was falling on Mary Jane. Imagine that scream that Tobey let out being covered by a stiff mask. It wouldve looked ridiculous. There are a lot of shots in that movie where the emotion was nullified because of the mask actually.

Well I am going to disagree with the last part. The Shield stuff could have been written out and Whiplash could have been been given a few more scenes to further develop his character instead.

That's the silliest opinion I've read on GAF in years. Bendis ruined the Avengers.

That's wrong on the OMG Rite level.

Kree-Skrull War, Korvac Saga, and on and on shit on anything Bendis has done.
Whatever, the New Avengers were great while they lasted, but everything after Siege has been pretty much shit in comparison, imo.

Kinda hyped for this now. Really felt they should have held off on a reboot, but if done right it should be good. Just hope the web swinging doesn't have any of the fake looking moments where it's obvious nothing is above him to be hanging from.

New Avengers are great if you like the same character talking to himself in the same voice while sitting in a living room.

Definitely not Avengers though.

Is it wrong if I don't mind either way on the organic vs webshooters thing? I thought it worked fine in the last 3 movies, but I also thought that webshooters worked well in Spectacular Spider-Man.

SOME of his gadgets were corny, though. Like the Spider-Signal? I thought that was too Batman.

Let's lay this to rest. As much as it may surprise a lot of you, Lizard didn't really have a snout in the comics until much later.

Say what you will about how the movie is filmed or what you think of the story and dialogue, but it's actually quite faithful to the comic books.

Using this reasoning is even DUMBER. Yes, we get it, in SOME runs he has a snout in some he doesn't. Doesn't change the fact that in the most recent ones he has a snout and that it looks better. Going by your logic, you'd even justify a movie batmobile simply being a black car with bat fins because it was in comics at one point in time...

As of yesterday I couldn't care less about this movie, but after the new trailer I'm pretty interested in seeing it. I like the direction they're taking a lot of elements in this one compared to the last 3, one example being the larger focus on Pete's smarts (the web shooters for example).

Here's why I think this isn't just an origin story: nowhere in this trailer do we see Peter getting bit by the spider or Uncle Ben's death. From the first shot he's already Spider-Man.

There's clearly a scene in a room full of spiders where he's going to get bit.
There doesn't seem to be a lot of Uncle Ben though.
