The animation in Resident Evil 6 is nuts

Are you serious?

Suplexes are fucking awesome!!! Someone's not a Zangief fan.
I think we all know Leon is a Zangief fan though!

And we have a Captain Falcon fan. No flames needed, them fists punches boulders!

This game was a good at being an action game and not a horror survival. I had fun with it

I just started playing RE6 maybe last week and not really enjoying it, but it's becoming apparent from threads like this that the game doesn't tell you how to do shit. Hopefully learning how to melee properly will at least make it bearable.

I still don't understand trying to separate a game from its name, either. "It is a good game but not a good Resident Evil game" is just a stupid statement. It is a good game. It is called Resident Evil. It is a good Resident Evil game shut up.

Its not hard to understand, honestly.

It may be a good game, and be a bad Resident Evil anyway. It happens because Resident Evil was originally created to be a surival horror game, creating tension making you feel unsafe and weak... I mean, thats the purpose of any survival horror. So when they change the main series to something completely different (apparently just a TPS full of crazy action), even if the game is good, it is so different from the original purpose that will repel original fans (survival horror fans) and call the TPS or brainless action fans.

So its easy to understand. Resident Evil was created to be a Survival Horror, and was excelent at it. Now I'm not sure if it can be called survival horror anymore.

I'm just saying though... I have not played RE6 yet (but I sure will buy for Steam when the price drops).

Animations have generally been a highlight for the RE games, particularly in the last mainline entries. One of the strengths Capcom still retains.

And, while it's my personal opinion, the combat is the only other highlight of the game (which includes Mercenaries that revolves around it) that is otherwise a complete mess.

Edit: Oh, I guess I'm supposed to shut up if I don't have perfect reception of the game. Didn't realize this was a pissing match.

Oh..
Brainless action fans eh?

Honestly the way some people talk about it you'd think they've never played anything aside from horror games. And maybe that's true, if that's their thing I'm not judging. I'm just glad I can enjoy both styles of gameplay.

Well I've enjoyed RE6 so far from what I've played but it's style of play isn't what brought me to the series. (It actually reminds me of what I like about MGSV and Vanquish.)
It would be nice if we had more balance on that front in newer titles though even if they are separate games.

This thread has actually made want to play the game...

I had it further down in my backlog priority list, but I think it just went high up!

The pure white research facility seems like the best place for making gifs. The contrast really makes the animation clear as day.

I feel as if a large part of the reason people are also upset is that the kind of horror gameplay the Resident Evil series had died and never came back after RE4. A large part of that is that many of the series that utilized that sort of tank control, fixed camera, exploration based horror gameplay were riding on Resident Evil's success. And once it left that genre behind they all followed or just died completely. I really would enjoy seeing that kind of game return but it's not a very cheap or safe type of game to make.

Its because people carry feelings for their old memories playing some games. So when they see it becoming something they don't like, they just get disappointed. I can't blame them... its sad to see some high quality old games becoming something completely different nowadays.

The ideal would be to continue Resident Evil main series as a survival horror game, just like Resident Evil 1~4 (and maybe even 5), and create an spin-off of it for a more "brainless" action. But nowadays its like the opposite: the main series headed to a more action game, and the "spin-off" is centered in the horror experience.

I was never a fan of Resident Evil though. The 1st Resident Evil I played was RE4 and have not finished it. Then I played RE5, liked to play it in co-op and finished the game. Recently I bought Resident Evil Remaster HD, am enjoying it a lot, but the lack of save points and the difficulty (I'm refusing to lower the difficult down lol) is repelling me a little bit. The others I have never played. So in other words, I do sympathize for the series, but I'm not exactly a fan.

But this thread makes me wanna buy it now! lol

Definitely. Using cover and shooting enemies from afar is not the way to play re6. But it does a terrible job explaining this so when it plops you into a game with a cover system you assume that's how you should play it.

Countering just feels so amazing.

the water effects are so neat but i can never really catch 'em right

OH BOY! ONE PLATFORM VERSUS 3-5!

At least use one from the HD port if you're going to make this claim.
it's not on the list what do you want me to do man
not post gifs???

But Helena is one of my favorite characters from RE6...nooooo she's great!

Also what the fuck was up with Leons Campaign, he's a complete douche to the women in his campaign to the point where there's even an trophy/Achievement for finishing his campaign aptly named "The trouble with women"

Still have them feelings for Angela. :lol

It's the lowest kind of purist/fanboyism, just ignore.

Loved RE6 and I agree OP.

Only thing I'd say is that maybe the scope of the game was too big, it tried to be like 6 different types of games in one which I honestly can't conplain too much about!

For a game with a development team nearing 1000 people the variety of animations isn't surprising.

It's the best and worst of what a triple-A game can offer in almost all aspects.

The animation that stands out to me the most is the one you can prompt when there is a waist-high barricade between the you and dazed zombie that's facing away from you. It's such a specific scenario, and any other game would've just re-used the same animation for the zombie facing the player.

I have been playing RE6 Now but i haven't seen any counter measures. I do other moves tough

Well on PC it's pressing the right and left mouse buttons at the right moment so I think it'll be pressing Aim+Melee for whatever you're playing on.

Counter is just right trigger/left click right before an attack hits. You have to be out of aiming mode to counter.

EDIT: Shit, right trigger, not left trigger. Sorry!

I could honestly not care whether it's safe or not, and expense obviously isn't an issue.

What's a series some folks here enjoy very much where they don't want to see a change to the mainline entries. MGS to throw out all stealth? FROMsoft/Souls games to play like Platinum titles?

I don't see why people who prefer Resident Evil having its own identity and being largely what it was need to shut up and move on, and think of Capcom having no choice when they haven't even attempted to make an effort in that direction. Its just been chasing the coattails of RE4 and then chasing some mythical Western gameplay ideal, despite RE being an influence already to the West and honestly the combat system would be right at home in a Platinum developed RE game (which is high praise).

I don't know, just a lot of unwarranted hostility towards each other in this thread. I'm sure it gets annoying that RE6 threads get a ton of shit posts and drive bys, but I think there are a lot of ignorant attitudes on the flip side as well.

That post is in the same boat. Doesn't make a difference just because you find it aligns to your opinion.

Edit: If there is a similar system in the next game, I promise myself that I'll spend more time in Mercenaries/Raid/whatever. That's where the combat seemed to be designed for, and would love to pull off some of the crazy shit that I've seen are in gifs elsewhere and likely are floating around in this thread.

Never tried it. Will try it today.

Thats why I am always out of Ammo :O.

Anyhow i am enjoying the game but not much so i just want to finish it

lol, been ignoring the cover system as well. I've just been going with the shoot and run style I used in 4 & 5, which doesn't work so well once the crimson heads start showing up.

In case you haven't seen it already, here is a helpful thread.

Before playing RE6, know these mechanics since Capcom don't teach poop

Thank you, this is exactly what I needed!

It's a shame that many people will never see these animations as people often opt to just shoot at enemies. It's not really their fault though. The game does a bad job at explaining its combat.

But still, every time I watch someone play RE4-6 without using melee, I die a little bit on the inside.

Also, I learned some new RE6 counters thanks to that first video. :)

Looking back at all of the RE6 footage it really was a technically flawless game. Great to look out and it performed extremely well. It's really well crafted, even if it's a dull CO-OP shooter at its core. It's kind of amazing that Capcom were able to pull it off, where games like AC: Unity fall on their face.

That's how to use a quickshot, not a counter. But quickshots are also very useful, as they stun the most close enemy to you, even if he's behind you.

Also, remember that you can stun enemies even by sliding into them too.

So L1 for ps3 ?

R1 on PS3.

My major issue is with the all around poor textures. It seems like they had to sacrifice texture quality in exchange for vastly improved lighting. Just a detriment of being stuck on the PS3/360 hardware though. It also had some framerate issues on those systems, though the PC version performs amazingly well even on weak cards.

but i think a large part of it is also related to the standard dark/muddy look of the game too. you can tell my gifs apart from the others (besides the lack of HUD, that is) in that there's a massive amount of contrast, saturation and brightness via sweetfx added as to offset the muddiness that is normally present within the game

I was wondering why your gifs looked better. Can you share your sweetfx config file?

Also, I wish Capcom released RE Mercenaries as a stand alone game with RE6 combat mechanics and characters, enemies and locations taken from previous RE games. That would be glorious.

Animation variety is great, it helps a game come alive. I don't think it is that good though, in quality I mean. The elbow hit shown many times in the first video looks out of place sometimes. The camera zooms too much sometimes too, makes the scene more confusing than nice looking in more cramped environments.

I also love both the old and new RE games, for different reasons.

This.

RE6 actually give you choices in combat instead of sticking you behind a cover the whole time.
Unless you've played Vanquish or Binary's Domain, of course. Then, yes, maybe.

After playing Ubisoft games and ND games I am not sure how those examples of RE6 show good animation. It feels robotic, messy and prob looks worse than it actually is because of the horrendous camera angles.

i have a gif for almost every single melee attack in the game but there's already a vid so whatever

i'll make my own compilation without all the ui stuff some day

the thing that just about every single vid and whatever is missing is actually the unique kills for the regenerator hands.
there are a ton
from the top of my head i've seen:
stuffed into a fryer (as seen above), stuffed into a microwave and microwaved, flushed down a toilet, stuffed into a containment jar, smashed against a laser field

and there's probably a shitton more i'm forgetting

Here's the microwave one:

People didn't realize that RE6 was a shit RE, but an amazing Die Hard game. Seriously, it's a pretty good game if you forget it's Resident Evil.
I don't understand why Capcom doesn't just drop the RE name and make a straight up third person action game with these moves. All this cool shit you can do seems wasted on zombie enemies anyway. Just make a new IP maybe set it in the RE universe and have Leon and Co fighting super powered mercs or some shit.
