When I'm sitting in a lounge chair, on the couch, or in a moving vehicle, I don't want to use any of those things. Mind you, I'm not saying that it won't function, but I am saying that lying on the couch with a lap tray resting somewhere on top of me is not the epitome of "not cumbersome" in my book.
Eh, I see the order of not cumbersome as:

Laptop w/ thumbball mouse > Ipad > Laptop trackpad. Trackpads are awful but I see the combo of weight/size and bezel being pretty restrictive for a lot of games that were at least somewhat playable on the iPhone. The downside is you need to carry the mouse around but that's where the fine difference in the types of sacrifices you have to make kick in.

I'm really curious as to how GeoWars will play. I've been extremely unimpressed with twin-stick shooters on the iPhone, mostly due to poor controls. That said, I have a 3GS with it's fancy screen coating and have wondered if that made any difference on playability. I just don't think it's a good fit for the iPad given the size of the bezel and the already existing difficulty in accurate responsive controls from touch.

Don't tell me that is how Apple plans to organize iPad games...
Just throw the games in the same store with only the "xxxx for iPad" in each game title to distinguish it?

Well, first off, I don't think it's moving in on the laptop market so much as the netbook market. And again, the kind of setup you're talking about, to me at least, works wonderfully on a table surface. If that's what you want in mobile computing, then rock on and stick with lugging your laptop around.

But for people who are looking for something more along the lines of their smartphone for mobile computing, and are wanting something just a bit more usable (if less portable), this is the market for the iPad. I don't need a surface to rest it on, and I don't even have to lay it on my lap.

While its far from perfect, you can at least tell from the "iPhone Screenshots" or "iPad Screenshots" subtitle.

Ok, I'm just saying that at home, when I'm not at the PC but want to play (old) PC games, I have a laptop on my lap, legs kicked up, and thumbball mouse just off to the side because it doesn't require a hard flat surface. Mostly a response to the notion of having to have a tray; I play PC games from my Laz-Z-Boy with the mouse on the armrest and keyboard half in my lap and resting lightly on the mouse armrest. I don't do any (true) mobile computing except what's on my iPhone.

But for people who are looking for something more along the lines of their smartphone for mobile computing, and are wanting something just a bit more usable (if less portable), this is the market for the iPad. I don't need a surface to rest it on, and I don't even have to lay it on my lap.
Sure, although there's an argument to be made that not resting it on something will remove functionality due to the size. I can hit anywhere on my iPhone with either thumb while holding it with both hands, and that obviously won't be possible on the iPad.

Tetris for iPad.

No screens?!

Anyway, selling points include:
D-pad
Original Tetris Music
Endless mode.

It's like real Tetris!

Dammit, I'm probably going to buy. I just need some screens.

never fails with Apple product reactions here on gaf :lol

first disdain, then some application or feature gets shown off and a dozen more people suddenly need to have one. classic.

Judging from the onscreen virtual sticks seen in the pictures in the lower left and right corners...

Oof, this iPad is going to suck my bank account dry. Day one of the iPad app store...and I've already spent $60 on iPad apps. And all but $14 of that was games. And there are still other games I want...but want to see videos/reviews of first.

I was actually thinking about it after watching that Modern Family episode (product placement works!) then I realize the base price was $500. Way too expensive for me now considering its purpose, but it is one of those "when I have money/next revision" things.

That's great to hear. Hopefully LucasArts jumps on board too. It would seem like a great adventure platform.
What publisher owns The Last Express at this point? Whoever they are, why aren't they porting it to iPad?

The idea of using an iPad to play games before going to bed instead of reading a book is stupidly appealing. (DS and iPhone already fill this role but have tiny screens.) Last Express seems like it would be a perfect fit for that.

LucasArts showing up wouldn't be a big surprise, since Secret of MI: Special Edition is already out for the iPhone, with Monkey 2: SE confirmed for that platform as well. With the codebase already running in iPhone OS, and the assets already existing in ridiculously high res for the PC and console ports, it seems like a no brainer to move those games over to the iPad, too.

I will say it again, I would pay big bucks for a Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 port on the iPad.

Dude, that is a fantastic idea! Oh, and I know its in the gaming section but considering Netflix app has gone live as well as their Fox catalog of TV shows, just the idea of streaming all seasons of 24 on an iPad is enough to make a grown man cry.

Oh shit. I just spent all day explaining why I thought buying an iPad would be a bad idea to my friend, but now that I see Mirror's Edge is coming to it...

I think I made a mistake.

The Netflix app has sold me on the iPad, but I'm definitely looking forward to the HD versions of the games. Can't wait to sit across from some one with Scrabble or Monopoly. ^_^

I find it ironic that technically you're all port begging. :lol
Why is it ironic? You mean new device with new input method and were begging for old games? I guess a little, but it's asking for old games that are enhanced or atleast not hindered by a touch interface. Makes sense to me. Not to mention, seeing as don't play consoles or computer games, having access to some titles is always going together me excited.

Adg1034: I was lazy, but you did well! I tried to play the first Sam and max a long time ago, but it had no sound and I got stuck pretty early on. Is te new one good?
