The Autorité de la concurrence fines Sony €13.5 million for abusing its dominant position (PS4 video game controllers)

Who buys 3rd party controllers anyway?
PowerA controllers are great quality and low price, they are robust controllers that are perfect for kids. A ton of people WILL buy cheap, robust controllers for their kids. Especially when official controllers have become so fragile with time (MS, Sony etc... all of them).

All these “ democratic “ countries pushing for socialism as hard as they can go. “ No no. We will Tell you what you can and cannot make “
Any issue with this ? Yes, governments will tell what you can do and cannot do in countries. That's how it works.

I am waiting for the moment when these "democratic" countries will force manufacturers to make actually repairable products (consoles, phones, TVs etc...), rather than products built to die after a couple years, deliberately made so that it is impossible to fix them yourself, not providing parts etc... all of this so that you are forced into buying another. Fuck this shit SO much.

It has already started anyway with bigger, more expensive products such as washing-machines etc... Forcing manufactures to provide parts for at least 10 years if I recall correctly. At least in Europe.

It specified RIVAL companies so yes they damn well do the same, selecting official partners is normal.
But more importantly the use of counter measures/patches to prevent counterfeit software/hardware…Again Xbox does this, hell so does Nintendo…If it applies to Sony, it applies to the rest of them…
Rivals in the PlayStation controller market not rivals in the console market.
The problem as stated was that Sony selected official partners through an unfair process.

A undisclosed, vague ‘unfair’ process…And again Xbox,Nintendo choose their partners as well. In fact they are all free to decide who gets to license their proprietary tech which controllers are….

Of course they can discriminate, otherwise someone could make a dick shaped controller and advertise it as a licensed Sony Playstation controller because Sony couldn't legally deny them a license if they applied and paid for it.
Yes, imagine the devastating financial consequences for Sony if me sitting at home, playing Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End on a cock-shaped controller.

Seriously though, the free market - ironically enough - requires regulations in order to orevent entities with disproportionate power from abusing those without. This is one of those regulations. If the consequence of that is the possibility that someone will offer for sale something that a mega-corporation doesn’t approve of, I’m okay with that.

That was exactly the courts point.

Considering the "qualité" of all these shitty counterfeit and third parties controllers, this fine is a pure joke. Another smart idea from men in suit from their desk not understanding a single thing about the real problem of these shitty hardware sold to misinformed people, mostly parents to their children.
