The Batman rumored director shortlist

Like Bobby said, this movie needs better circumstances with George Miller involved. If WB was taking a hands off approach and letting George do his own thing like Nolan did with Begins & TDK? They've got something special on their on their hands. But he'd likely be butting heads with Affleck and the studio execs over trying to get everything how they want it and forcing the DCEU into it.

Babe and Happy Feet are awesome movies

Also, the end of Happy Feet is totaly an allucination of the penquin driven to madness in the zoo, don't care what happy feet 2 says

Kevin Smith on Fatman on Batman also said maybe Tim Miller could be given a shot. That could work. Seeing as his not doing Deadpool 2.

George Miller and Denis Villeneuve being on that list is hilarious.

It'll probably go to Gavin O'Connor for obvious reasons.

The idea that any director worth their salt want to ruin their reputation on a sinking, burning ship is very amusing to me as well.

Good list of directors but I would only like a George Miller Batman film if he could create his own universe like Nolan did with the dark knight trilogy, which isn't going to happen obviously. I haven't been impressed by DC's attempt at a movie universe yet.

But if its Reeves gets it that would be sweet the Planet of the Apes films have been great.

Villeneuve and Miller have far better shit they could work on. Them working on comic book films would be a loss to the industry.

I don't agree with this because "comic book films" are just another form of source material to draw inspiration from. Dune is "just" a scifi book. Blade Runner 2 is a "cash in sequel". Etc. What matters the most is what a director wants to do personally. If they're hired for the sake of it to shit it out, there's going to be very little value to it and it would be a waste of their talent and time, yes. But if there is something they personally want to explore, it could be very interesting.

Don't think Villeneuve is interested in modern pop culture comics much though. Miller on the other hand is definitely into that sort of stuff. He almost directed a Justice League movie before Nolan's Batman success derailed it!

Matt Reeves has a career of not dropping the ball on heightened expectations/geek properties (Cloverfield matching its hype, Let Me In being a respectable remake, his Apes sequel not sucking). I'd be perfectly comfortable with him at the helm.

Matt Reeves is the most realistic and therefore best choice. Denis would be a dream but he seems loaded as is. Gavin and Ross wouldn't be exciting but OK.

Would Miller even do it? I thought he would be pissed with WB after how they handed Fury Road.

What better way to get the sequel off the ground than being a pinch hitter for Batman.

Although, I don't know how much you can base off his Justice League project, but Flash was the main character there and the directors seat for his movie is empty.

Just give it to Michael Bay now that he's left Transformers so the rest of us can stop getting our hopes up that any of these movies will ever be good.

Had no idea that Matt Ross was the actor from Silicon Valley

My money is on Gavin O'Connor since he has already worked with Affleck and The Accountant was actually an alright movie.
Matt Reeves would be a solid pick since he has worked on big special effects films with the recent Planet of the Apes movies.
I see no chance for Villeneuve or Miller. Villeneuve is probably the hottest director in Hollywood. The Batman would also be a huge time sink. Miller just isn't going to happen.

The only reason Villenueve's listed in the article is because the original source is from January. Now that he's accepted Dune there's almost literally no way he does it even if he wanted to, as he just wouldn't have the time.

George Miller is a pipe dream but man if they get him. *drools* he would salvage the hell out the mess that is DECu

Yeah, he said after Fury Road that he wants to do something smaller before entertaining the idea of helming another blockbuster. A big-budget superhero film doesn't exactly fit that bill, plus given his history, he probably wouldn't be interested regardless.

I have not seen Dawn of the Planet of Apes, yet, so I don't have an opinion on Reeves (I want to see it, though), but WB should approach Tim Miller for a DCEU film, Flash would be my pick. Also, O 'Connor would get me very interested.

He's not on the short-list, but I would love to see Gareth Evans (director of The Raid movies) get the gig.

But from that rumored list, George Miller please!

god damn a george miller batman movie with affleck's batman 😩😩😩😩😩😩

Reeves or O'Connor are the only ones I could see happening.

George Miller or Matt Reeves would be fine, I enjoyed most of the movies they directed and they would be a nice fit.

Dream Director: Cary Fukunaga W/ Adam Arkapaw cinematography. WHEWWWWWWW Macbeth is one of the best looking films ever made tbh.

No way they get George Miller. He pulled out of Justice League already.

And Villeneuve is a bit busy.

It'll be Reeves.

That's not what happened.

He was making a different Justice League film in 2008, with a completely different cast. The film was set to be made in Australia, and was weeks from production, but due to an Australian tax cut falling through, as well as negativity online towards the project (people still thought of Miller as the Happy Feet/Babe guy, and this was set to coexist alongside The Dark Knight Trilogy, but with a different continuity and actor playing Batman) it was cancelled at the last second.

He didn't pull out of anything.

Georg Miller would be incredible, but I doubt it very much.
Speaking of improbable picks, Gareth Evans of The Raid fame would be really good pick in my eyes, too.

Realistically speaking it'll either go to Matt Reeves or Gavin O’Connor.

Seeing how WB bodied David Ayer I don't want anyone good to touch it. So no one on that list.

With the exception of Matt Ross, whose stuff I have not seen, every one of those directors listed as had made better films than Ayer (and, for that matter, Snyder too).
