Got GoW I for 10 dollars, Far Cry II for 19.99, fable II for 29.99, and have Halo 3 on the way in the mail to tide me over until ODST. I will probably pick up some JRPGs next along w/ Gears 2.

I am waiting for L4D 2 and Modern Warfare 2 to come out rather than buy them now.

It's so fucking awesome they have a 1680x1050 option for my monitor.

Also going to play 1 vs 100 later on the 6th. That looks like so much fun!

Edit: AWESOME. The Fable 2 DLC is 30 percent off this week. Lucky me!

Excellent choices :) Just a heads up about Far Cry II, it's really long. So long in fact that a lot of people didn't like it because of how long it was, so at $20 you definitely won't need to worry if you got your money's worth with that one. Even at $60 I felt like I got more than I paid for, which is great since at the end of the day it's a ton of fun.

And Fable II was personally my game of the year for 2008, an incredible game.

Speaking of the theme, I came across this yesterday, it covers the many variations the theme has gone through from 1942 to Battlefield Heroes.

I still get a good chuckle out of the Heroes version ;)

That was interesting. Thanks for posting! The Heroes one was very fitting. :lol

Just installed 1942 again on bootcamp. Couldn't find my Road to Rome or Secret Weapons expansion though :(

And I will get this on PS3. ID bjscott05 :D

Oh man, the memories of 32 computers playing the BF1942 theme out-of-sync at my LAN centre...
2002 was amazing.

I can't wait to play the unlimited multiplayer demo on Wake Island. You know, as a salute to 1942's first hit? That'll happen, right? Right?

Ahh, fuck, they're going to make me reinstall '42, aren't they. So how do I get a gameport joystick working on a pc with no gameports?

Someone here said it was a timed demo, not sure how that works.

You can buy separate gameport PCI cards, they often comes with Audigy soundcards.

Ahh, you probably get like 60 minutes or something on your game tag, then you buy or delete :/

That's true, all I really need is the header with the physical port for my Audigy.. but it's something quite difficult to find these days, despite being fairly common in the past :( Might be easier to find an expansion card, or just suck it up and buy a usb stick. All in all a lot of effort to fly my plane into the ground like a lawn dart

Multiplayer specific XBLA games have recently been able to add "ticketed" timed trials. Death Tank and Age of Booty have the multiplayer aspects available to gold users for a limited time. Age Of Booty had two tickets where each would only last 24 hours once they're initiated, and I think Death Tank had a 60 total minutes free.

Battlefield I believe has a 60 minute trial specific to Wake Island. While it's a throwback to limit the game to the one level, it'll end up meaning that other levels won't have nearly as many players. Ah well.

The BF2 version plays far too rarely in the game. But then again, was it only added in a booster pack?

This will be so good. Let's hope that Dice/EA supports this with DLC if it sells decently.

The original Battlefield 1942 saw a couple of expansions and loads of mods. What are the chances of DLC for this title? Are there any other maps in the original that you'd hypothetically like to update?

There are no solid plans for DLC and I think pretty much every map from BF1942 could be remade. They were all exceptional maps and still stand up next to anything new in the BF universe.

Didn't they say Coral Sea took like an afternoon for one guy to do? Since it's dogfight only I guess it's a bit quickier than other maps though.

DLC should be awesome for this but I expect they don't want to get people too addicted to it, else nobody will play Bad Company 2. :lol

Whacked my name on the online forum list, due to some summer heat 'issues' I'll be on a little later.

huh?
Heat issues?

Anyway I'd love some DLC for this, even if it isn't out yet :lol

Yeah they did. Also said it took two or three months, with three/four guys(at the start anyway), to complete the other three maps.

Think I might be buying this for the Triple because I have two triples now and only one 360.

Let us run through this scenerio.

You buy the game on PS3.

You complain about the issues and wonder why you didn't buy it on 360 right away.

You put up with the issues for a week or two, and then decide this is enough and buy it on 360 so essentially you bought it twice!

Save yourself 15 dollars and just get it on 360 in the first place. :P

the heat issues delaying my grabbing this till next week are:

Hot summer = hot games room = hot 360 = freezing = RRoD

Gahhhh!!!....

About Coral Sea: What do you guys mean its going to be planes only? Like do you spawn directly into a plane, or do you still have the chance to walk around the carrier, bail out on the islands, etc.? If the former, that sounds dumb. Whos going to man the AA?

looks like you finally get it bob!

360 or bust!

Haha get your console bias out of this thread. :D JB just has a history of buying things on PS3 and wishing he bought them on 360 instead afterwards. :lol

Bad company ran fine on PS3. Had some mic issues which is the main reason I'm going with the 360 version.

Besides, it is PC or bust with some console titles strewn inbetween, get it right. :P

I think I'm more happy than necessary that the Michael Mann-quality sound has carried over from Bad Company to 1943 :D

You and Denog getting it on 360?

As long as voice chat works well I will be happy. The game looks pretty identical across platforms.

What's the significance of 43 million kills? There were about 43 million civilian deaths in WW2 but that would be kind of ghoulish to use as a milestone.

maybe an estimate of users/games/kills per game extrapolated out to meet a preferred time window for release of the DLC?

Most likely, taken from BF:1943.

Edit- Beaten.

That was my gut feeling, but I was giving them the benefit of the doubt. 43 million is also the estimate of the total number of Americans who have served under arms in war.

I really wish they had gone with point caps. It would have been more respectful to the millions of soldiers who died in WW2 as well as better for the gameplay. BF1943 isn't team death match, and people who play it that way are counterproductive to the team.

edit: 1943. Duh.

In BF1942 you spawned on the carrier and could then decide to either get in a plane or stand around and do nothing, basically. IIRC there were two or three AA guns on the carrier, so there was that. Never bothered to check if there were any boats as it didn't seem like a particularly smart idea.

There were some AA guns here and there on the islands, but it was futile to bother as you'd basically just sit there and wait until BOM ZAL DROPPEN. You could bail out over the bits of land scattered about, but there was quite literally no point to it. The thing about Coral Sea was there were no bases or flags, the goal was simply to bomb the enemy carrier to death. Maybe they've changed this for BF1943, who knows.
