The Battlefield 1943 (XBLA/PC/PSN) Official Thread

Someone said center mass also is one shot kill with sniper although I don't often play the scout class.

I'm no master with the rifle but the trick is the use the range it has. It's really become my favorite class. The SMG is good but I have to get so close to feel comfortable to not blow the kill that I often end up getting myself into trouble.

Yeah, I know, I usually go for flags and then defend them when people come rushing in to take it back. Then you don't have to work yourself too close and you can let the enemies come up to you. Or I simply work my way around the area if I'm gonna take an enemy flag.

I think I'm using the SMG during like 70% of a game, with rifle being the rest. I rarely use the scout.

Are there really only 3 maps? Maybe you're just getting unlucky with the low map count. It's bound to hit the same map due to it only having 3 others.

There's only three maps, although one new will be unlocked when the kill count for the X360/PS3 community reaches 43 million.

Either way, you don't need to randomize maps when there are so few. They should just play out in order or something.

Any GAFers playing right now? I'm downloading the game as we speak and I'm ready for some action

According to the two official Gamertag friends lists, there are about 19-20 GAFers playing it at the moment.

One thing I really think they got right is the relatively slow recharge on health when you get damaged. It feels better than in some games where it feels like you recover your health really fast. I've damaged people and then lost track of them for a sec and then refound them and been able to mop them up. I prefer that.

5 million kills in the first day, with lots of people not even being able to play. That 43 million may not take that long at all.

I'm fairly average to even slightly below average in general in Battlefield but I had a run with the rifle earlier where I just feel like a complete bad ass. My team was assalting a base from one direction that was above us and I was at a different angle also below but on a hill. And I just start rifling fools like a mofo. They kept respawning and I kept firing and taking them out every time. Like I said I'm a pretty low level player but for that one moment I felt like a god. So good.
Yup, it's great. You can take people out in like 2-3 hits, I love it.

Just played a couple matches. It's ok, not as fun as I thought it would be but still good times. The changes are just a bit much for me to totally overcome, some of the "magic" that made BF1942 great has been lost in the concessions made to bring it to consoles. Nicest way I can really put it...

What's the point behind having a map unlocked after so many kills? To bore people with the limited selection, while putting a carrot on a stick so they keep playing? The first game I seen that used this gimmick was Nobby Nobby Boy, but the Moon was just a different theme. All of the maps on earth was just as random.

a 4th one will unlock in the near future.

Pretty good game, was expecting it to be a little similar to Warhawk but it feels so different, so it warrants a place on the xmb :) Really need some good squads to play with to have fun, i felt a little lonely cuz other GAFers were all in full games I couldn't join. boooo

See gamers really do want graphics upgrades. Gameplay be damned.

I would have bought it even if it was just a straight port from original 1942. The game was just that good.

i so want some bocage and market garden and some midway ....like NOW! heh its a lot of fun and after watching some youtube vids of the original it really is a step up visually.

I wish I could plug my mouse in to use with planes. I was crazy good with the mouse in 1942 and using the controller now just boggles my mind.

mannnn it turns out something went wrong with my account and I got charged (but not really) $14.99 ten times....anyway....everything is fine, called my bank and Sony.....but it seems my PSN wallet account is locked for 24 hours...and I have to wait to late tomorrow to buy the game :(

In relation to the forthcoming Aussie servers

Good news for BC2 :)

Thanks heaps GVD! Greatly appreciated from all of us down under!

I know its a while off but does this mean BFBC2 will also get Aussie servers?

If this works out I can say Yes, but I need my brothers down under and those sticking their tongue out to greet me to show the nay sayers you play BF on console!

Yet another game that I'm torn as to which version to get.

It was a tough call, I went with PSN because I don't really have many friends on xbl. the graphical difference is pretty minor, although I'd give the slight advantage to the 360 version from an iq standpoint (someone above mentioned it runs better on PS3, but I didn't notice that)

Other than that it's just controller preference, as I'm sure they'll iron out all of the network issues for the 360 version soon. I will say that its kind of funny that a company as big as EA cant pull this off. Of course nothing will ever approach the Konami id system the night of the beta release...dear god that was awful.

I don't know if it's supposed to, but during a lot of games the map I'm playing get repeated once before the next one comes up. It's quite annoying.
Seems to me like you play each map through as one faction then the other, unless I've just been really lucky with my ordering. This game is pretty fun and looks great, and I'm especially pleased that its focused and rarely feels empty...but I have to say I'm already starving for weapon unlocks and generally more content. Also, I have to say (random) people really fucking suck at coordinating, and again I'm baffled why absolutely nobody uses a mic when it comes with the goddamn console. Storming the beaches with bombs falling all around definitely still has that BF feel though. :D

Whats the communication like so far? I hate games like this where no one talks, Battlefield experience is always make or break with the community and people working together instead of running around aimlessly.

Not kidding, you want a good team work game... Play as "the bitch", follow someone in your squad and spawn next to em each time. After a few minutes you'll start working together... if you just spawn on your own and do your own thing and expect people to follow you heh, nothing will come out of it.

Yeah, take it from Timan, he knows a thing or two about playing the bitch... always spawning near me and mopping up my leftover kills, tsk tsk ;)

Never played much Battlefield, but what's up with the explosion blast radius? I can shoot a grenade or rocket at the feet of a player and they don't get hit or die? Huh? Definitely not a lag issue. Anyone else notice this?

Yeah splash damage on everything needs to be turned up.

C'mon now dude. There is a tutorial.

Much like Bad Company balancing the blast radius for rockets and grenades is relatively small especially compared to most games. I can see someone wanting a larger one but this is the second game in a row where they've done it relatively small so they most likely want it this way at this point.

That's been around in BF for a long time, they want those weapons used for specific purposes, not spammy easy kills so they artificially reduce the radius and damage of them against people.

Makes sense. I haven't delved much into the Battlefield series. I picked up Bad Company a week ago when this title piqued my interest, but have yet to try it. Still it seems odd to shoot from a tank and see it not kill a soldier.

For some reason turrets(like on tank/jeep/boat) aren't making noise when I fire them...I could have sworn that they did when I first was playing.

This is done purposefully to keep people from spamming constant bazooka rounds. It's not realistic, but it's been a staple of the BF games since 42. Bazooka is supposed to be an anti-tank/anti-vehicle (and now anti-wall) weapon, not some crazy blast radius kill everything weapon.

In 42, the tank rounds would blow the crap out of infantry too, but that's been toned down as well, as it would make tanks far too powerful now that they can destroy walls.

Blow the walls away with tank rounds, then spray the interior of the building with your co-ax.

Grenades still pack an oomph though...

Yup. It's exactly the same way in Bad Company, which I like :)

It struck me as odd in Bad Company but truth be told I tend to dislike games with large explosion balancing. It was the worst part about COD 4 for me. And it tends to turn the games into a power weapon whoring fest or grenade spam fests. Especially in a game where you theoretically have an unlimited amount of them. I agree the blast radius in these most recent Battlefield games sort of makes you use them for specific purposes.

i dont think that it has anything to do with consoles, as that other wow game was really good.

I bought it without questioning it, now i have to stick with it. At least no PSN issues, everything run very smooth.
