The Battlefield 1943 (XBLA/PC/PSN) Official Thread

Just played for a couple of hours on PSN. Pretty good, no lockups and the lag didn't seem too bad. Not much communication or cooperation, but a lot of people seemed to be in my shoes, just acclimating to the game and trying to learn the maps. I'm pretty much a Battlefield noob.

If anybody wants to add me PSN Imperium

Calm down dude. It just struck me as weird that you would ask a basic function of the game. It's like asking how to fire your weapon. It's not some exotic hidden move.

man I got stuck with a pretty craptastic team. lost 4 matches in a row, each time I was the top player on the team, once the top player in the match. my guys couldnt defend for shit and wasnt smart about capturing either... whereas the other team seemed to have their shit together. It seemed like I was the only one doing anything productive half the time.

Speaking of productive to me it seems planes are a waste besides taking out air raids 95% of the time... and of course I would look up in the sky and see 2 guys on my team flying in circles.

I really need to start playing with people I know in squads or something...

I don't know about this blast radius thing, especially in tanks. Just feels like a death trap now. I'm sitting there pounding away on the main guy trying to hit some squirrely ass guy running around outside my tank and popping me with bazooka rounds and it ain't doing shit. I never had this problem in Bad Company, I used to be able to snipe motherfuckers with shells.

Oh and I checked, you do have to use the D-pad to switch camera views. Really weird decision, I thought the right stick click was great.

use the coax machine gun with right bumper for those kinda guys

One of the best parts about this game:

It's the first AAA release that Gamestop can never sell, or better yet, resell. After years of threatening to not carry a publisher's titles if they made a big game download-only, EA finally grew the balls to tell them to go fuck themselves. What is Gamestop going to do? Stop carrying EA titles? Hah! I bet they are furious too.

Long live DD!

Bwahahaha I just had a hilarious experience. :lol

So I'm still learning the controls of the game, and I just deploy the boat from the aircraft carrier. As I'm driving to shore, I see a teammate swimming in the ocean, so I slow down to pick him up...then I see an enemy soldier swimming towards my teammate. So then I think, hah, I'm gonna blow this guy away, and attempt to switch boat seats to the gunner seat...but accidentally eject from the boat. The enemy guy climbs in my boat and drives away, and my teammate and I are both wading in the ocean looking at each other, way far away from shore, and the guy says, "dude..."

Whoops. :lol

Just played a smooth 90 minutes or so on XBLA, great experience. This game has clicked with me more than any online shooter in awhile, it's not too complicated, intuitive, plenty of action. It's always fun to get in on the first few days as well before everyone gets really good.

ok...obviously i didn't know how to do it if i needed to ask now did i?

basically you could've said, LB like some other person did, and save yourself the trouble of being a prick, but no instead you had to be a smartass about it.

Wow, learn something new every day.

YOU SHOULD'VE PLAYED THE TUTORIAL DIDN'T YOU HEAR?!

nuh uh. me and cb3 where handlin' up last night on the game so when all is fixed you will be glad you chose the dark side.

and besides the coral map will be unlocked much faster on the 360 version.

Ok, to be clear. Are you able to set "shoot" to right trigger (not bumper) on the 360 version?
I guess I'll be downloading the demo for 360.

Yes, by default you shoot with the right trigger on 360 version.

I've seen one squad win entire games in BF2. Pubbers just refuse to work together.

my last post was me chillin', the previous 2 were not!

I don't like how identification is A) automatic and B) an icon on your screen. I would prefer it on a minimap.

Woah, you're playing on PSN? Mind if I add you to my list?

Hey, man thanks for the PSN recommendation. It runs flawlessly.

I just played 6 rounds with a awesome squad of random people. None of us were using mics but we seemed to have really good teamwork and traveled together.
Don't mind people not using mics. What's worse is people with mics who are talking to someone in the room or just making noise.. -_-

It's par for the course with Battlefield games. The same tips work as before, find a group of good player to play with regularly squad up and ignore the nobs.
Hey, I know about BF, but see, the other BFs had things to help with that.

As I said earlier I'm a fairly low level player but I don't mind playing with anyone here on GAF. In fact I would prefer it. A squad that is ground based so we can wreck havok and no one is going to go off and fly planes would be fun. I'll be available tomorrow evening and the weekend. I'm heading off to bed in a bit.

How big is teh file on PSN?

Still having trouble getting into games, which makes it that much harder to play with friends but once we all got in a game, it was a lot of fun. Definitely playing a ton more tomorrow night.

This is done purposefully to keep people from spamming constant bazooka rounds. It's not realistic, but it's been a staple of the BF games since 42. Bazooka is supposed to be an anti-tank/anti-vehicle (and now anti-wall) weapon, not some crazy blast radius kill everything weapon.

In 42, the tank rounds would blow the crap out of infantry too, but that's been toned down as well, as it would make tanks far too powerful now that they can destroy walls.

Blow the walls away with tank rounds, then spray the interior of the building with your co-ax.

Grenades still pack an oomph though...
I disagree with the way tank shells are being handled in BF1943. I played BF1942 tonight for kicks and I can easily take out a group of soldiers with a well placed shell into the ground in the vicinity of them. In BF1943 I have to hit a soldier directly with a shell and it may not likely even take him out.

The thing is, in 42, as infantry, you could hide behind sandbags/trees/in buildings to escape the super deadly tank shells. In this, the tanks just blow right through them. If they could also kill infantry with a big blast radius on top of that, it would really unbalance things.

Fair complaint. Honestly I've found myself getting out of tanks just to finish a mop up kill a few times. Plus it tends to surprise people ;)

PSN version is running awesome, easy to get into games, lag free. The only problem is the sound...every minute or so its like someone hits the reset sound button and the sounds go quiet, then re-loop again.

God this game can be frustrating.

Sometimes it seems like my bullets are lagging because I'm hitting the guy dead on but it isn't connecting.

And I keep getting put on the shittiest goddamned teams. I know I suck myself but I've yet to win a match.

And why the hell does NOBODY friggin talk? I haven't heard a peep from one guy yet and I've played about 5 matches.

I try to break the ice on the mic and start singing the theme song between map loads. "Ba ba ba ba baaaa, ba ba ba ba baaa" Sometimes other people start joining in and we get a cool barbershop quartet going.

Took me 2 or 3 minutes go get on an XBLA server, but after I got there I played for 2 hours with no problems. Great game. Let's go Xbot GAF and crush the dirty heathen Sony Defense Force in the race to 43 million.
My other purchase this week is Trine on PSN, multi-platform 4 life.

It is weird how little talking goes on. I've never seen a game on XBL with this little talking. Most of it is the fault of the game though. First with the squad system you are limited. There is no real pre-game lobby screen for people to talk to each other. I don't think there is even a visible mic thing that comes on screen when you talk like in most game. And sometimes you don't even get put in a squad. It's all very confusing.
