The Battlefield 1943 (XBLA/PC/PSN) Official Thread

No lag here. Weird. Also, Coral Sea isn't that bad. It's somewhat fun. The only bad thing is not having any feedback when you're being hit aside from red circles.

Also, I'm shocked that out of my 90 PSN friends, 78 of them have this game. That is INSANE.

I love Air Supremacy. The flying is so fun and satisfying in this game. :D

You really gotta work for your kills.. leading your target and such. And like I said earlier.. flying in the cockpit felt really weird at first, but now, it's like I can't play any other way.

I'll be so let down if Bad Company 2 doesn't have planes.

I was somewhat fine with the player count early on because it felt hectic but now that I've played the game long enough and figured how to approach things it feels like the player count works against Wake Island. They should have added a bridge connecting the two outer points of that map or added respawning boats on the shore because that map is so fucking boring with the low player count. Getting from one flag to another seems to take ages and you rarely come across as many enemies at any of these spots like you do in Gudalcanal.

The best and worst part of this game is how you can have so much fun sometimes without trying to win at all. It's fun when you're the person messing around, it's not so fun when you're having a great game and your team sucks balls.

I was on Coral Sea yesterday putting dynamite on the windshields of friendly planes for the lulz. It makes it hard to fly and surprises the hell out of people when you blow it up.

Anyway, what's the best way to avoid getting shot in the plane? I do a bunch of barrel rolls and try and round the corners of the islands really close. Is there any better strategy?

Believe it or not, releasing the throttle on the plain (slowing down) makes tighter and faster turns possible. This only really works well when your enemy is close enough to you, or else they'll just readjust their course.

Also, in cockpit view, don't be afraid to use LB (L1?) to look around the cockpit for a better view. Make sure you have a safe take off by looking around your cockpit for enemy markers. Always do this when taking off -- it allows you to bait enemy planes who are close to your carrier into AA range. If you see enemies flying close to your carrier deck, exit the plane, run to your AA and dispost of them.

In the air, remember to use down on the Dpad to look behind you. This allows you to judge how far away trailing enemies are, and whether a tight, no-throttle turn is best course of action in reversing a dog fight in your favour.

Fly high! This confuses opponents relying solely on their enemy markers on the HUD. (You might not even appear at all!) You can literally get the drop on these opponents by attacking them from above. Smary pilots will counter this by using their cockpit view free look. Remember that if someone is trailing you at high altitude, you have much more room to use daring tactics like dive bomb escapes and such. Flying at high altitude also keeps you out of AA range when you're attacking ground targets. (Ever see AA tracers/clouds appearing half-way in the air between a plane and the actual AA turret? This is why!)

If you're going to use bombs on ground based targets, you'd best be diving straight at that target from fairly high altitude. It takes a lot of skill to be flying horizontal and time a drop right so that you can use bombs properly. To be honest, the plane's MG is a better weapon against tanks and other ground based targets. Just remember to fly high and then dive down at a target -- it's much easier than trying to fly horizontally and just get a fly-by -- you'll have much more time to actually inflict damage and adjust your aim if you're not hitting them if you dive at a target.

Lastly, remember that you can touch (or fly very close to) your carrier's deck to repair your plane. If you try to make a straight line to your carrier, most skilled pilots will realize they've got you at low health, so they will most likely follow you, line you up, and waste you before you even come into AA range of your own carrier. Again, erratic movements like dive bombs from high altitude will allow you to close the distance much faster. Don't let the enemy get a lock on you! If you've got squadmates on the carrier deck, ask them for AA support -- it's a great tactic to down an enemy even if they get you in the process.

Hope this helps!

there are respawning boats by the outer flags lol.

This game convinced me to try Bad Company. Picked it up yesterday for €15. Haven't tried the multiplayer yet, but the singleplayer seems decent so far (I've only played the first misson). The click & hold to run has already pissed me off.

Back on topic, someone showed me the back path up the mountain on Iwo Jima last night. How did I not see this before? Makes taking that flag a lot easier.

The run-click thing is very annoying and I hope they use it for Bad Company 2.

If you're enjoying 1943, Bad Company online is really good fun. You will feel instantly at home, even if it does take a few more rounds to down people (Sniper is still like it is in 1943)

Is there supposed to be any on-screen indicator of when you are speaking into the mic? I tried speaking into my mic but saw no indication that it was detected the sound. This made me think my mic was broken, but I tested it in the XMB and it still works.

Also, playing on PSN, I've heard ONE(1) person actually communicating via mic in the 10+ hours I've been playing, and I couldn't even tell what he was saying. This is my only real complaint about the game. I guess I need some friends or something because this game is eerily silent playing with randoms.

the only problem I've had is the game freezing and crashing, although I suspect that has more to do with my 360 then the game itself

I've had this game lock up my PS3 twice now - and I've seen some pretty nasty 'black box' artifacts as well.

In 27 hours of play I've only had 1 lock up and only 1 case of bad artifacting. A massive black line from the top to the bottom of my screen appeared when I was in a tank, weird. I get the little black boxes over people, but they're only up for like a milisecond and they're barely noticeable :)

I'm not totally sure if you have to be in a squad or not, but in my experience if you are you're more likely to hear people talk.

Either way, PS3 version has a voice bug that persists from Bad Company, where voice chat craps out mid match never to return depending on the circumstances.

You should enjoy Bad Company if you enjoy 1943. It's made by the same guys.

Tried the demo last night and boy am I glad that I did!

Despite having no group coordination (I got the feeling that everyone was just playing the demo or something) I still managed to aid in some good captures and get some very satisfying kills (two planes yay!).

I had an absolutely hilarious partner too. We were running up some road and I just hear him say:

"AGH go AWAY!!"

And a plane is taking pot shots at him. He turns around and just starts shooting it with his rifle and within seconds broken plane parts fall from the sky. It was magical.

Needles to say I can only assume it gets better, though the charm of not knowing which way is up is still pretty entertaining.

I picked up BF:BC after playing 1943 as well. So far I'm really digging it. The weapon unlocks are a nice dangling carrot that keeps me playing. It seems like it's much easier to get infantry kills in tanks in BF:BC for some odd reason. More splash damage on the turret maybe?

I bought the game on xbla without playing the demo and I hated it :( I just can not aim, whole physics do not work for me, even though I liked bad company....

But it's like almost the same as BC.

Frontlines has 50 players. And, yes, like I said earlier it's a limitation of the Frostbite engine. If you want more players (with the current engine), then you'd have to drop the destruction.

At one point Kaos said they were able to get Frontlines games internally at 70+ players in a map. It would have been great to have seen that released but I imagine it would have been unstable. You just know some group of people is all going to try to run to one spot and all drop grenades or something.

Just had a few AWESOME games with two great squadmates...I came in first place in every match and our squad too, I believe :D

I got so close to the leatherneck stamp a few times but got stuck at either 18 or 19 kills =(

Well I got a college class right now but I hope I'm still on fire by the time I get back home at 9pm :lol

I bet I'm better at this game than you are, Hootie.

At last I will be able to make fun of your skill at a game.

At last I will have my revenge.

Damn I'm starting to become badass at this game. Me and my squad make top squad every single match now, with us three always being in the top five of each match. Feeling at home now :D

I just had a 8 vs. 16 match?

I had one like that last night. To make matters worse, my asshole team spent most of their time on the carrier shooting each other.

People sure get butt hurt over this game though. The only thing I'm good at is shooting down planes. Last night I was in a couple of games againts the same squad picking them out of the sky. No surprise when I looked at my Live rep they gave me a nice 40% Unsporting review. Bunch of pansies.

You haven't played 64 player Battlefield, have you?

You have no idea of the rush of filling up the boats and rushing the beaches together, having the fucking DOOR ON THE BOAT ACTUALLY WORK, with machinegunners raining down upon you from the beachhead (there's game modes where the enemy starts on the island and you start on the Carrier in the other BF's)...
It's like fucking Normandy.

Amen brutha!

But I do like the new version. When I first popped on I had the same reaction you had from an earlier post - but after playing for about 5 hours I realized that this was indeed a visually satisfying and fun game to control. I like the way the game "feels" and plays.

Slightly amusing story that might explain why I am totally ok with the game as is (though I would also love to see another map pack)... back when BF42 came out I had just bought my first projection TV, a nice fat 128mb video card (lol) and was trying to make the current console experience happen with a computer and my existing equipment. Needless to say I couldn't make the video card scale properly to the wide screen projection, pixilate properly or basically work at all. I had to resort to playing BF42 on a 17" CRT monitor. Considering what I had in mind, that sucked.

Today, in HD with 52" of Aquos power those dreams have come true :D ... if not without a little "dumbed downed" feel and about 1/10 the maps. But it's cool. I finally got my first shootdown with a bazooka and man it felt great!

But yeah... they ought to fully update BF42. I think peeps would buy it for sure.

One last thought. I think this re-packaging of a "classic" proves that people would rather have awesome controls and fancy graphics than play the older version. Basically something like BF42 is pretty timeless if it receives it's upgrades and can be brought up to current standards. You can keep a franchise alive almost indefinitely this way if you chose to do so. Heck, look at MW5... it's been years since the last MW release and some of us can't wait to take the new one for a spin.

So I gave you good advice :D I was feeling a tad nervous that you wouldn't like it...

Yeah, you did. I kinda suspected I would like it since I love Bad Company, but was nervous it'd be too simplified to really enjoy next to that.

But it is actually a really tight experience and perfect for an XBLA title. I'm really glad I got it. Thanks for the tip.

I usually do join an open squad, but I still never hear people talking. Guess that bug probably has something to do with that. Ugh. So they never fixed the BC bug, eh? If so, guess this won't get fixed either.

Finally got the 100 match achievement. Made it to gold warrant officer in the time it took me to get it.

Slightly off-topic, The Complete BF1942 collection came in the mail today also. So far so good, except that one disc of BF Vietnam has a dent in it, and it won't let me install it.:( I guess I'll have to go to gamestop and get another copy of it tomorrow.

Alright. My life is complete. I can't play anymore because I've reached the most awesome I can be. Everything here on in can't measure up.

1) I headshotted a dude from my airplane.
2) I was in a tank and a plane was screaming towards me. I shot it down with my cannon. Yes, one beautiful shot with my cannon and the plane exploded damn good.

Do it with a grenade and we'll talk :D

I blame Shishka.

Fire Shishka.

Yeah, 1943 is weird about that. You have to reinvite them to your squad (where they drop and rejoin) to get around that.

yeah, more splash damage and i doesn't curve as much, which makes irt easier to aim. of course, you don't get the awesome coax gun in BC.

I've had some great moments so far, my funniest one was when I was in a plane shooting down another plane, and he made it to an aircraft carrier then jumped out because there was a new plane. I proceeded to jump out after him, we were both floating in the air shooting each other in the air with rifles. I ended up killing him and hopping in the new plane. I've also managed to hit a plane with a rifle grenade and blow it up, granted I hit it as he passed right over me.

Game is a blast and have been playing alone and with friends in a squad, and playing with a squad is definitely the way to go. Especially when you can have two four-player squads in party chat working together, it can make for some amazing teamwork and most of all, domination.

Played in a party, and we were split between two teams. That....doesn't make much sense.

This happened to a group of us tonight too (it was a bunch of Chromehounds refugees).

We joined a game as a 4 man squad; played one game that way, next game we were split in two groups of two on different sides. We loaded another game up - same thing. That might need to be fixed, especially considering that you can't launch a private map without 24 of your closest friends.
